LEICA M11 is My Daily Driver. SONY A7RV Collecting Dust.

Why I went from Sony to Leica M11?
Join me as I share how the Leica M11 changed my approach to photography. Once an ardent Sony A7RIV user, the simplistic yet profound features of the Leica M11 beckoned me towards a more enriching experience in the realm of image capture.
If you been asking if you should get a Leica M11 or how the transition from Sony Canon, Nikon, Fuji to Leica cameras is, then this video is for you.
🔍 Key Features & Topics Discussed:
Leica M11 vs Sony A7RIV: Features & Limitations.
Why the lack of Autofocus, EVF, Video, and more in the M11 can be liberating.
The true value of the Leica's signature rangefinder. The M11 Range Finder Experience.
Mirrorless cameras like Sony, Canon, Nikon, and Fuji - Are they making us complacent? (Spoiler alert: Yes they are)
How the Leica M11's 61 MP sensor delivers unparalleled image quality.
For many, Leica M10 and M11's hefty price tag raises eyebrows. Yet, its raw, stripped-down approach to photography is its essence. If you've ever wondered whether the Leica M11 (and the Leica series in general) is worth the investment, or if you've felt stagnated in your journey with mirrorless cameras, this video is for you!
Shooting with the leica M11 , it's not just about capturing a picture. It's about capturing a moment, an emotion, a story. With the Leica M11, every click of the shutter is intentional and every photograph a much more sincere story.
Is the Leica M11 worth the hype? Well, you'll just have to watch and find out. 😉
#LeicaM11 #GettingAleicaM11 #SonyvsLeica
The Leica M11 is a camera that offers less for a high ticket price, but is it worth it? The leica M11 unlike Sony cameras offers no Autofocus, no evf, no video recording, no grip, a single SD card slot and the most simplistic way to approach photography.
So if you are far into this description you may be asking: Are Leica cameras worth the hype, and the answer will be: maybe.
For me, the price paid the the Leica M11 was well worth it because enabled me to get out of my comfort zone. the Leica M11 at the begining feels limiting, but after you get to know the Leica M11, it feels liberating.
After over a decade of shooting with mirrorless cameras, suck as sony, canon, nikon, fuji, I felt that my photography was hitting a wall, or at least I started losing motivation. That was when I discovered that my sony a7rIV was doing a lot of the work that I was supposed to be doing.
Shooting with the Leica M11 in all sort of environments have been a pleasure. No Autofocus to blame, No video overheating to complain about, just because there are no video features. Just sheer great image quality powered by a 61 MP sensor.

A M camera says "slow down and enjoy". I bought a M6, decades ago. Then I changed for other brands. But at the end, I came back to a M for the reasons you give : body and lens quality + weight, pleasure to build your pictures, discretion, simplicity, battery life etc... With a M camera, you definitively quite the arm race to love what you have. (NB : my M is a 2015 model).

While getting back into photography after a 40+ year hiatus, I too was initially into demanding tack sharpness in lenses. I tried out Voigtländer’s Super Wide-Heliar 15 mm f/4.5, Color-Skopar 21 mm f/3.5, and Nokton Classic-M 35 mm f/1.4 v1. I sold them, but now could see buying one or more again.

I honestly love the form factor and image quality of the M11. Compared with any of my Sonys the M11 has a feel hard to describe but I’d say that images look less digital and more analog than Sony images. Even though they use Sony sensors, the Leica glass attributes to that particular character that a lot of us love in these cameras.

I had the Leica M, Type 240, with a host of lenses, including Noctilux. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it, the Noct is a tough beast to tame. Regarding the rangefinder, my eyesight wasn't bad, but not the best, either. I shot mostly hyperfocal length, which makes that camera faster than any autofocus camera around. With that said, I found that many of my images were soft, which many prefer. The hyperfocal distance needs to be dialed in oh so perfectly. That rangefinder had better not be this_much out of calibration. My favorite lens of the bunch, easiest to focus and very sharp was the 50mm Summicron F2. I finally decided to sell my Leica gear because of the autofocus, or lack of, mostly. I bought a Nikon D5 which was an absolutely lovely camera. Huge megapixels, low light king and perfect sharpness. I now have the Sony A1 with their new generation lenses. Opposite end of the discussion, the A1 sometimes can look clinically sharp, too sharp. The Sony autofocus is marvelous, very happy with their 135mm G Master for portrait. Wow, what a lens. I digress, because this is about Leica. For any newbie wanting to get into manual focus / rangefinder cameras, just make certain you fully understand before you spend the money. I own a Leica Q2 Monochrome that I absolutely adore. I reach for it 8:10 times. The only possible regret I have was letting the D5 go.

Thank you for your feedback. I find the glass I have sharp enough for a clean image but with character or a look, something that I don’t seem to get from any of my Sony, Sigma or Tamron glass. Again my Sonys do have a place in my photography (product, commercial HSS) and I enjoy them as much for that type of work. The M11 is more of a therapy camera for me. More like a sport. Manually focusing each time is more like hunting without anyone being killed. Thank you for popping by. Make sure to sub as I’ll be posting more content about my journey to Leica. I had been shooting Nikon cameras for decades as far back as the film camera F5-simple and straight forward even the lens had markings akin to the M lens so you could easily hypeffocal and zone focus wide angle lens. Those lens are gone and the sophistication of all the focusing aids has in my opinion created additional problems of focusing for the non professional who does not use it all days. The Nikon Z9 is a marvel of technologhy but at a real cost of complications for the sheer number of buttons and menu system. And of course not to mention its weight. What good does all this technologhy provide if you hesitate to carry it with you because is so heavy or you remember where so options are located. And of course trheir is the Leica M lens-the best in thge world and the Noctilux lens which can not be replicated.

I love the images a Leica makes. I love the minimalist features. I've had a Q3 and loved it -- although the Q3 has a lot of "normal" mirrorless features (like AF), so it's only down-featured a little bit. But $13,000 (with lens) for a camera without most of today's most common camera technology? I understand the Leica appeal completely. But $13,000 is just too much more for so much less.

Nope! 20+ years ago I declared that I wanted certain features in cameras. They were finally implemented in mirrorless and phone cameras. Mirrorless freed me from thinking about "skill" details like "eyes in focus", "get exposure right" and let me think about my image. I shoot all manual exposure, and I don't use display screen often. Getting it right [with histogram] is important :). I borrowed m4 earlier this year and spent a couple months with it. I was relieved to return it, and get back to my Olympus and GFX :) But then I got Mamiya C330, for no good reason! I mean, I say that I would like to have a mirrorless with square sensor, and I don't like video features in my cameras, and I like simplicity... Seemed like a logical choice at the moment :) If only it would focus for me. I see no value in spending 30 seconds trying to get focus on subject's face. I am quite blind at close distances after all and need every help I can get.

A camera is a tool, not something to obsess about. A leica in film days had it's devotees, but when SLR's came in with autofocus (Canon EOS), everything else became obsolete. Leica has always had it's devotees, but it's a niche camera, suits some people (with loads of money) but not others. Niche photographers chose Leica for it's discreetness and for the excellent lenses. Ian Berry, Paul Hill, Cartier-Bresson, Tony Ray-Jones used Leicas, so what? Just because you own a leica with a 'cron' or 'lux', doesn't mean sh*t. You have to learn how to use any camera you own, then go out and take pictures with it. It's YOU that creates the photo, NOT your camera.
