Defunctland needs to see this series.
This is legitimately one of my favorite series on KZread. So many people review individual sets from these themes, but very few look at the bigger picture and examine the influence of classic themes

Why I searched for it in the comments
I thought I was so smart when I figured out Ogel is Lego backwards. Then later down the line I found hundreds of other people had discovered it too. "A Crushing Defeat"
"With all the whimsy of a heart monitor" This series is an underrated gem.

Huge heads up. Tee Vee lives on. Hidden Side seems to have created a new or alternate version of him named Seymour Tee Vee in the set 70436 Phantom Fire Truck 3000. I have you to thank for having me remember Tee Vee.

7:23 I really like that shot of Ogel's massive army. Looks like a scene straight out of Star Wars or something like that.
Great video! Alpha Team definitely has one of the most interesting stories behind it. I find it kind of funny that LEGO rejected the initial concept of the mixing various genres. They ended up doing just that with in 2014 with The LEGO Movie, or even in 2010 with LEGO Universe if you count games (which is what Alpha Team initially was). However, LEGO's decision is understandable given that a few years ago they had tried something kind of similar with Time Cruisers / Time Twisters, which didn't seem to fly. There's also the point that general set design quality in the late 90s and early 2000s is considered by many to have been at an all-time low... perhaps due to LEGO's brick library consisting of a strange mix of classic bricks, bulky and highly-specialized parts, the first of the modern Technic beams, and the sleeker slopes, curves, and other elements which are standard in sets today. The designers were only just starting to get used to the newer building styles. Something like The LEGO Movie sets may not have been feasible back then. In case anyone is wondering how Monster Fighters connects to Galaxy Squad, there was a comic in a LEGO Club magazine that showed the end of the Monster Fighters storyline. Lord Vampyre gets beaten, and his moonstone-tower-thing explodes, sending a large beam of light/energy into space. The last panel shows a view of Earth from space, with the Buggoid ships noticing the large energy beam. I guess they didn't really do anything about it for a while, though, since Monster Fighters appears to take place in a far earlier time period than Galaxy Squad. en.brickimedia.org/wiki/File:Lego_Galaxy_Squad.jpg It wasn't the first time LEGO themes have been given connections by LEGO Club magazines. There was once this longer-than-usual comic from Nov-Dec 2011 issue which connected Atlantis, Pharaoh's Quest, Alien Conquest, and Dino (2012). When I first saw it back then, I thought it was one of the coolest things LEGO had ever done.

I remember reading that four-way crossover comic and thinking it was the dopest shit. Iirc there was a cliffhanger ending that never got resolved, which sadly is pretty typical for Lego storylines :(
@zebulan1485
3 жыл бұрын
@@kumatorahaltmanndreemurr The cliffhanger was that the alien commander is apparently somehow responsible for unleashing the dinos from Dino (2012) as his final tool to take over the earth. I don't recall that Dino theme ever getting a comic in the Club magazines, and that origin story for the dinos also seems to contradict the origin story in the Dino Outbreak game: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fo1sss-OY9KTebQ.html That game does end with the dinos being put back through the portal, so I guess at least the Dino theme itself does have a resolution.
Man I missed out, ultra agents came out in my dark ages and it looks so cool.

From Ultra Agent's TV Tropes page: - "The graphic and model designers of the Hurricane Heist set are fans of Metal Gear and it shows. Not only does Pysclone's Humongous Mecha resemble the Metal Gear mechs, but the HUD on the windshield is clearly modeled after the Metal Gear Solid codec screen and even has the listed frequency 140.15, which is Meryl's frequency in the Metal Gear Solid games. Even better, the series' creator, Hideo Kojima is a huge fan of LEGO, so this is their way of complimenting him!'
Wow this was a very interesting episode. Although I know a lot of things about lego themes and history I never knew that lego Alpha theme was originally lego logic.
Ultra Agents is my all time favorite theme! And I'm glad someone else acknowledges that Monster Fighters is a prequel to Galaxy Squad.

I find it ridiculous that Ogel is Vladek's descendant. Which meant at some point Vladek got busy. I mean who in the world from Knights Kingdom 2 would wanna hook up with Vladek? He's pure evil with no redeeming qualities whatsoever! Cedric from Knights Kingdom 1 had more hope of getting a girl and carrying on his bloodline cuz he had a heart deep down. The only logical way I can think of how Vladek had offspring was that he did non consent on some poor woman......and that isn't something I should have to think about IN A LEGO TOY THEME!

7:33 YES FINALLY! After all these years I stumble upon that ice-helicopter-transformer-thingy that I have XD! I've been wondering to what Lego line this belonged to, now I know ^^. There were even games on the old Lego website for this, memories... So thx XD.
i got most of the sets from the last wave. as a kid, the gimmicky red filter and pieces you could look at through it kept me entertained. the skull base was cool, and i really liked the transformable ski-jet thing. and Ogel's giant scorpion was just BADASS.
Is Ogle REALLY a descendant of Vladek!? That is cool as all hell..

Nick! It's been 3,000 years!
Really cool to know the Alpha Team game was the birth of the Lego set. I was like 10 when the first theme came out and played the game at some point but never realized which preceded which. Currently I have the entire lineup of Alpha Team sitting in a few boxes without the room to display them. It was the one theme that really stuck with me for some reason.
My best friend when I was younger had an indoor swimming pool. We were LEGO kids and anytime a submarine type set came out chances were he'd have it. We spent hours diving with these sets and creating our own. I have very fond memories thanks to these sets they incredibly fun.

One of the cool things we discovered with set 4794, is that when you take off the arms and you throw it under water like a paper airplane, the propellers keep the stability for a while. It was difficult to throw underwater but I remember we were able to keep it straight for about 2 feet before it would lose momentum and float. Another thing we'd do is spend the better part of a Friday building an underwater seabase. We wanted it to sit at the bottom of the pool so we filled the baseplate with rocks. Unfortunately, we didn't submerge it properly so a lot of air was still trapped inside. We both swam to the bottom of the pool and when we surfaced there were parts all over the place. We looked back down to see nothing but a baseplate with rocks. It might have seemed like a wasted afternoon, but it was very fun.
7:00 is probably the best piece of dialogue to ever be done
Ogel is probably the coolest looking villain leader in lego history. He actually just looks and seems like an intimidating and evil A-hole
I had that whole deep sea set as christmas gifts, it was amazing and really bring back memories from my 10 year life
Wow, I completely forgot about this set I never owned anything Alpha, but you've brought back a memory of me building that skull, just based on the advertised images, out of the pieces I already owned, lol
I liked the villains alot in agents/ultra agents cause they were like a bunch of James Bond parody goons that went over the top in the right way, plus the head prints for Fire Arm and Saw Fist made for finally getting custom Lego Terminators
I had Ogel's Control Center from the first wave as a kid, and it was one of my favourite sets, I've always had a soft spot for cool villains.
i feel like in 2004 Charge and Flex got their names swapped around
Alpha Team was an absolute GOAT for me. Still is!

Achhh LEGO Agents 2008 for me are the best theme ever created 😎🤩
I'm going to miss those flash games. I spent many hours at my parents work playing them on the computer.
Lego agents (the ones with Inferno) were my favourite as a kid. I liked to make up personalities for the characters. It was fun.
WATCH YOURSELF THERE NICK AGENTS IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE THEMES
Lego spelled backwards is....EVIL!!!
The alpha team Ice wave was my favorite series of sets back in the day. I never had any, but the fact that the vehicles transformed was the coolest thing.
Ogel’s plan is to freeze time? YOU THOUGHT IT WAS OGEL, BUT IT WAS ME, DIO!
A friend of mine gave me his brothers old copy of the Alpha Team PC game, which had a bug causing Tee-Vee's voice to loop like a broken record in a stage replacing the music. A great introduction to the series. Though those gen 1 sets look really cool, so I might have to hunt those down.
This theme looks awesome, I love the sea too, that’s why 2007 is my favorite Bionicle year, and I always really liked spies, so I think I would have liked this theme a lot

I only ever had three sets from the 2004 wave of Alpha Team, and I think eight sets from both of the '08 and '09 Agents waves combined.
*Dude, we have to bring back the original Lego Logic characters! In fact, we should definitely let Traveler's Tales know about every character related to the same exact format; Ogel, TeeVee, Dr. Inferno, everything this video gave us! They should definitely make a game out of it, make it as epic and popular as the almighty Lego City Undercover! Everything will be more awesome when that happens!*
Ultra agents is one of my favorite themes!
I have fond memories of playing LEGO Chess after playing it SO MANY TIMES as a kid. LEGO Chess and LEGO Island 2 were my favorite computer games at that time.
TEE V's third body has a teal colored right arm. The Chief from the Rock Raiders theme had a teal colored left arm that was, according to what lore there was, a mechanical replacement for the arm he lost. HMMMMMMM.

I look forward to having a more action oriented theme release in the future. The alpha team line was awesome and i wish i didnt miss out on the ultra agents line. Those sets lokernreally good
Wow this brought back memories I completely forgot about
I remember playing the game and playing with the Lego play sets. Damn. At this rate I've owned almost all old lego sets from my childhood. Good memories and times.
2001 was one of legos coolest years IMO
That original Alpha Team game concept sounds a lot like what the LEGO movie would kind of be
Awsome video I love the LEGO rewinds
God I remember after Al's team was gone Lego still had the operation deep freeze Flash game up on their website and I played that so much.
Oh hell yeah, the second theme that drew me into Legos. Played the game, got a lot of the sets, and absolutely loved that secret agent/spy aesthetic.
I never gave Agents or Ultra Agents the time of day (mostly because they stopped sending me catalogs and magazines when I was 16...) but I wanted Alpha Team so freaking bad....and never got any of it. Not even the games or polybags. May as well call my LEGO story "Tales of a Broke Middle-Class Homeschooled Loner". But even just from watching, these sets were amazing. I'm definitely planning on buying some very soon. Also, lol, Dash is basically LEGO's heroic version of Lord Farquad. And I agree that, as LEGO goes, Galidor and Jack Stone stink (though the 4Juniors line was ok, not making those crazy dumb aesthetics that Jack Stud did). I have fond memories of the show (I need to get around to rewatching it) but it says something when I bought those figures for damn near exactly what they went for back in 2002.
I had almost all the alpha team sets, this was my CHILDHOOD. Thanks for bringing it back!!!
Ogel was my first lego set / minifig that I received when I was 3 years old. So much nostalgia! Thank you for bringing me waaaay back to my earliest and fondest memories of being a child and playing with my legos
Always loved the agents line, such cool sets!!!
Alpha team was one of my favorite lines as a kid, I used to go crazy about the video game and the first two lines, the ocean line being a cult classic for me.
This is actually the first time I've heard of/seen the ultra agents line, and I'm annoyed that I missed out, I would have loved those sets
Is there any chance you'll ever cover Jack Stone? I know its a punching bag but it's how I first got into lego so I've always had a soft spot for it. Love your work man. So many of these videos take me back!

Love this series
I had a few of these and read the comics in Lego magazine as a kid
Wow I never knew knights kingdom was connected to the villain ogel all these years and I never knew that's pretty cool sets off a good backstory
I loved 6774. That chain truck is so cool. With that hook and that dude-catapult, which eventually got swapped out for a laser cannon by me. Ahhhhh fun times.
Yes, finally another episode!
Alright a couple things- 1. I just started this series and I’m so thankful that it was popular enough for you to make 41 episodes. That’s fantastic, I can’t wait to Binge watch this thing. 2. “All the whimsy of a heart monitor.” Is such a good line lmao. Keep up the good work man, this is great stuff! Can’t wait to see what you have planned for the future. I don’t have a lot of cash now, but when I do, I’m looking forward to checking out your first book. Take care!
I loved this theme

Yep! There's always another layer to these themes to peel back.
This is my second favorite theme as a kid after Bionicles.
sooo much nostalgia damn this really brought me back to 2nd and 4th grade
Hey, if you haven't seen the preliminary pictures of the Hidden Side summer sets, the fire truck set has a robot that bears a striking resemblance to Tee Vee's original design. Might be a coincidence, but we'll see.
Fun fact: In Lego Alpha Team Deep Freeze, The villain has a plan that involves destroying the universe. The Team tries to stop him. They fail. He unleashes his plan, which results in destruction. However, one man sends out a distress signal to a player yet to come, immune to the destruction, for a final battle. Mission Deep Freeze, or Infinity War?
man i love ultra agents they are just so interesting with their designs .
oh man I love underwater themes, aqua raiders and Atlantis were some of by best lego memories.
Finally!!! I was recently rebuilding some Alpha Team sets, I had two bad guy sets and 3 good guy sets, all underwater (bad guy sets being squid 6:16 and whale 6:21 and good guys being a ski boat the one at 5:18 and two of 6:54)
LOVED the game!
I'd love to see a rewind on Monsters and Galaxy Squad. I loved those sets so much
I remember this theme and I even owned a couple set too
Don't know if anyone else has made this analogy, but Ogel is like Lego's Thanos
Now this is content.
That would explain why the Lego Alpha Team video game doesn't play like an actual action spy game, like I suspected it to be at the time. I guess that's why I was disappointed to start with, but then when I got over it I found it surprisingly fun. Though I find it odd that it suffers from audio problems on Windows XP computers, but can be played on modern computers no problem if you follow a RockRaidersUnited walkthrough.
Those Mission Deep Sea box arts are triggering my thalassophobia!
Man if I would've gotten a few LEGO Ultra Agents sets, I will be living the dream.
oh my god i remember that shark with claws from when i was younger it was one of the few sets the child minder service i was at had and i was always confused as to where it came from and i remember getting the agents motor bike one with the crocodiles
Ultra Agents are sick!!
Oh man I forgot about Alpha Team! I always wanted Ogel's sets but never had the money because they looked so cool, especially in the second series with the shark and the squid!
Never seen the agents Theme. Pretty cool helicopters.
Dude that Alpha Team video game, I swear the worlds in that game foreshadowed the toylines cause the final world was a snow world
