I just realized that this franchise is a freaking ANIME. Ninjas, robot ninjas, ghost ninjas, giant mecha, dragons, spiky hair, huge discrepancies in canon between the original (the show) and the adaptation (the film), daddy issues, giant cast of characters, spinning, not nearly as many action scenes as its title as a shonen implies, fire sword, giant cat, weird Jackie Chan stuff, a huge demographic that you’d never guess exists, and hot male protagonists. They might as well just change the art style to make it official at this point

Actually, when people say Anime they usually mean the aesthetics and tropes associated with Japanese animation, especially things like Shounen or Mecha, even more so when it is used as an adjective. Anime has really become more of a genre than a medium.

Yea, my cousin worked on this movie as part of the editing team. He had no say as to how it actually turned out (he was just supposed to edit) and before the movie came out told me that due to poor planning and rushed production he didn't think it would be received well.
@jackdanielsinthelionsden1887

Yeah it was probably rushed do to the Lego Group wanting it to tie in to the toys. So there was no time for rewrites, and also the obvious reuses of animation. (at least according to the most widely expected theory)

Dank memes Luke Lmao. The best villains in the franchise didn't even appear in the special where all the old villains were supposed to return. And samukai, who did return, wasn't featured in any sets, so... why?
Ninjago is an awesome cartoon-series on Cartoon Network. Telling the story of Lloyd joining the team, the team progressing from newbies to masters and worldwide-known heroes and Lloyd'r rise to the leader position. Garmadon's and Lloyd's relationship is well written and the humor is really funny. I have debated going to see this movie, but seeing the reviews of it and the inconsistencies show in the trailer, I will stick to the cartoon.

I like the movie, but the show is better. Though since it is a show it has more of an advantage. Like with fleshing out the characters. So there's really no room for the other characters to be... Well characters, besides Lloyd.

I can agree. I was honestly worried about how much they were leaning on comedy, which was okay with the other ones because in one the world didn't matter anyways and in the other, well, everyone knows who Batman is, but with Ninjago they were basically making a movie which was a parody of itself, since the movie had basically nothing to do with the show. The sets are great, though, so at least we got that out of it. Concerning the show and character development I gotta say some of the episodes were worse than others. (especially the ones with time travel (never do time travel unless you are 100% sure it is integral to the plot)) Wow, I did not intend to write that much.

Heck, in the show, Lloyd wasn't even the original main character. (He was after a while). At first, he was some bratty kid who was also garmadon's son. Then he became the green ninja. Then he got magik'd into aging up. Then he beat his dad and made him good. Originally, kai was the main character. Then in the movie, he's literally given nothing. He's just there. Why did they even keep the other 5 ninja if they weren't going to give them any screentime?
@loomman5296

@@cian2168 So they can fuck up the designs of the ninja for no reason.
My biggest issue with the movie was actually the other ninjas. It’s slightly better if you’ve seen the show (which I have), even though it isn’t canon, because at least you know the characters. In the movie they rush the character introductions so much you can barely tell some of them a part. Plus they barely have anything to do with the actual story.
@Jasonwolf1495

Random thing you actually get more out of the movie if you bought the sets because the sets have story bits in their instructions. Especially the 300$ ninjago city set. Like there's a bunch of info about all of the characters. Like Kai is trying to start a Red Ninja Fan Club because everyone loves the green ninja and he doesn't get nearly as much notice and feels left out. like where's that in the movie?

Not necessarily. Literally all you need to know from the show is that Lloyd is the Green Ninja. That's it. Everything else is explained in the movie.
@cyberspinosaur1145
5 жыл бұрын
loomman529 They never explained how and why Zane's a robot, which I think is odd as he's the *only* robot in the movie, nor do they explain why Wu never told them about their elemental powers until he was nagging them Also a nitpick, but how do they not realize who the ninja are based off of their eye colours? Zane and Lloyd are the only characters with blue and green eyes yet no one makes the connection. It would've been interesting if Garmadon actually figured that out about them and was able to use it to his advantage, showing he's intelligent and an actual threat by noticing something no one else did. It could even add too some funny teasing from the other ninja, who make the two wear sunglasses
It's so sad how this turned out, considering how great the show is. The filmmakers should have actually taken direct inspiration from the character, lore, emotion, and overall creativity of the show, instead of superficially plastering "Ninjago" onto this movie. Now everyone will think that this is what the show is like, when it couldn't be further from the truth. -_-

make your own opinions and see the movie. Don't be a sheep.
I think 5 of those 6 issues come down to not knowing source material which is a flaw on the movies part totally, but I suppose that's just the thing. They're trash and being actual ninjas because it's a joke about modern day ninjas in pop culture and how they never actually be ninjas (IE noncombative purely focused on stealth and recon, killing being the ABSOLUTE last choice unless there was some sort of combat plan about to be brought up by a military force. Basically, everything ninjas don't do in movies). it's also a joke about the toys and how the toys always have these crazy weird vehicles for the ninjas despite being ninjas... AS for the lloyd is the leader thing I agree he certainly has too much good going for him to be down about it. If they actually were ninjas and they only relied on the powers it'd probably work better. Simply put I think lego is now an artisitic choice or a setting. it doesn't need to be anything special. Any story can be in lego its just a ruleset to choose, and honestly the artistry makes it worth it.
@darklanternstudios7691

It's lego because the cartoon series and toys it originates from are lego. And with Lego Movie and Lego Batman being hits, they were hoping for a cash grab. Not gonna lie, before the first trailer dropped I was saying this movie was gonna be bad, because it would try to hard to be Lego Movie/Batman, and it appears (noting I have not seen it myself due to my opinion and instead have been waiting for this review) that I was at least somewhat in the right.

I actually loved this movie. Say what you want, but I don’t think there is much wrong with the movie. It was telling the story of Lloyd and Garamadon, not that of the other ninja. It could’ve been better, but I think it was put a bit too low on the list. Welp, it's not my video, so who am I to complain?

My brother and I are huge fans of the first two seasons of the television show. We were hopeful about the movie... And disappointed. The show was so great. Lloyd's struggle between good and evil was interesting in it and the other characters were more developed (I was very disappointed with how they were treated in the movie). Anyway I would recommend the show over the movie every time.
this movie really hurts me. when I was younger I loved the tv show for this shit, even now. I collected a lot of the toys for it, and really loved ninjago as a whole. When I first saw a remake for this, it made me really excited, however I know now I was so wrong. The story is really inconsistent to how the animated show is, and there are so many flaws you go over. Little things like "Oh Nya has her water powers! that's pretty neat, we must be far into the story. But then why do they have negative power of their powers?!" and "whY ARE THEY AT SCHOOL WHAT THE FUCK NO THAT SHOULDN'T BE". Heck, little things like replacing the voice actors has frustrated me. Overall, there are so many minor issues with the movie that make me dislike it. I wish I was able to enjoy the movie, like I do/did the tv show. It's a shame.

I was very hyped for this movie which made watching it such a sad experience. The overall design and look of the movie is really cool, but the rest just felt wrong. Only having watched the series up until Lloyd turning into his older counterpart the characters and the story just don't make sense here. The movie needing to be standalone for new viewers I tried giving it the benefit of the doubt, but to no avail. The characters all felt off and overdone, especially Zane, and Cole just disappeared into the background. Again, this can be chalked up to needing to appeal to new viewers, but it was a let down to someone who had enjoyed the series it was based on. The movie was lacking of character dynamic between the canon personalities which pretty much hold the series together. And where's the spinjitzu? I get that mechs sell more toys, but I don't recall ever seeing hints to it even. Maybe this all makes more sense if one has watched the complete series so far. The story between Lloyd and Lord Garmaddon was neat, but as a whole the movie just seems like a series of unbalanced and poor decisions. And, as you pointed out, the live action stuff felt like a poor fit trying to force a connection to the real world.. tl:dr - Standalone movies based on franchises aren't easy to pull off, and especially difficult to do fans justice. This is just one example, which is a shame
My brother HATED this movie and told me to not watch it because it couldn't take it's self seriously for a minute, and hearing your review it honestly sounds bad. Here's all the things I caught while watching this review alone. The ninjas were never really 'loved' by the city, they lived in a crappy apartment for the longest time cause they where broke and had to take up odd jobs, most of which they sucked at and people hated them for. Why where they loved in the movie? (They even took part in destroying the city a few times so...yeah...) They were never in school, all of them where like 20 years old...Lloyd was never in school unless you count 'the school for bad boys' because he was literally a delinquent who WANTED to be like his father at first...He got turned into an adult when he was a kid because time travel stuff I won't get into. So...HOW OLD ARE THEY IN THIS MOVIE?! Garmadon gave up on being evil later and actualy turned back into a normal looking human without four arms. (Spoilers sorry.) He was the one for inner peace and tried to teach it to the ninjas later. There was never in real life stuff in the series. I don't understand why that was there besides trying to be like the lego movie. Lloyd already knew he was the leader when he was an adult because he was revealed to be the green ninja as a kid. (If my memory serves correct.) Kai (The red ninja) had a complex about not being the green ninja which popped up a few times through the series and I REALLY enjoyed it, it kinda sounded like they downsized that into him being a jerk to Lloyd instead of fleshing out his insecurities like the actual series, which sounds really lazy to me. Nya (The water ninja girl) didn't know she was a ninja until later...also she was a samurai before and ONLY was a ninja later because she HAD to be do defeat ghosts. I would have liked it if they kept her as a samurai. Finally the explanations you gave about the ninjas was just...not at all like their series counterparts. Cole (Black ninja) had a dad who was into music and stuff. In the series he actualy seemed kinda against it. Jay...well I didn't really catch anything you said about him but he was an inventor and was goofy and silly he also loved Nya. Kai was a character who was hot headed with lots of insecurities but always did the right thing in the end. Zane was emotionless for the most part but was loyal. (He was also a robot...which was focused on A LOT later on.) I'm not sure how others feel about the film, but it also like you said seems like a TERRIBLE starting point for anyone who wants to go into the series. I'm not saying you shouldn't see it, but honestly I'd recommend the series just based on the review.

Black Star of Star Clan The movie actually has confirmed ages unlike the show. Lloyd turned 16, they confirmed it in like the first few minutes. Cole said Wu is 167. And Garmadon is 174. And The other ninja are probably in the 14-16 range

Wow. That just sounds kinda stupid if I'm honest. Jay looks like that age from the trailer though so it makes sense.I genuinely think they should have made this a separate movie that had nothing to do with Ninjago if they aren't gonna keep anything from the original besides VERY basic elements.
@rubellite7841

Black Star of Star Clan They also twisted the Misako+Garmadon story. That's the part that got me a bit triggered xd. Misako is such a developed and smart character in the original series. They completely forgot about her in the movie and replaced her with a character meant to serve some comedic purpose. The movie story was pretty stupid. If the two really loved each other so much, wouldn't they know enough about each others motives? Wouldn't they know if one of the people in the relationship wanted to rule to world while one of them wanted to lead a normal life? They should at least get to know each other before having a damn kid xD. The whole situation was pretty abrupt, and really made no sense. I suppose they didn't want to explain the real story because it would be time consuming. Plus, the movie didn't really give a crap.

They left out misako?! i mean she was kind of a jerk for leaving Lloyd alone at the school for bad boys instead of raising him, but they at LEAST talked about it and patched things up later. This movie didn't even bother to put her in, it really shows how lazy this movie was tossed together.

Ya'll are all forgetting this movie isn't canon to the show. I see and understand your points but it's not supposed to be like the series. it's taking place in in the LEGO movie universes. They just used aspects and characters for this movie, which I see nothing wrong with. I like this movie because its different from the TV show. It makes you see the characters in a new light.
Seems to me like they tried to fuse the tv show's canon with a new movie canon, and it just floped. In fact, Garmodon had an entire redemption arc spanning multiple seasons, and Loyd wasn't introduced until the second or third season, where he was still a kid, and sacrificed his youth to save the ninjas, becoming the same age as them and fufilling his roll as "the chosen one".
I liked the TV series more then the movie. And before i get hate on this comment for saying this, Please keep in mind that this is just my opinion.... I didn't like the mechs because it has almost nothing to do with the tv series, and i know this isn't cannon to the series but still. it changed a lot of the good things about the series.

Me too lol.
It wasn’t even touched on in the movie, but Lloyd is a Master Builder like Batman and Benny.He built all their mechs. He was even at the dog in the first lego movie. The movie went for that already established heroes theme which is why they seemed like seasoned heroes, but nobody did anything outside their mechs except for Lloyd. And it wasn’t just the high schoolers making fun of Lloyd, its literally the entire city that does that. I completely agree with what you said about Garmadon at the end, it wasn’t clear he was willing to give up being a warlord. Most likely not because evil literally is flowing through is veins thanks to the snake he mentioned
3:46 - You know, it's around this point in time that I've come to the realization that the _LEGO Ninjago Movie_ is really a _Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers Movie._ After all, there are quite a few similarities between the two: both consist of characters who are teenagers skilled in martial arts; both have these same teenagers attend the same high school and get bullied by some goofball; both have very over-the-top fight sequences which will include mech-robots; both seem to possess a very silly villian; and both have their teenage martial artists be the only defense against the evil supervillians of this world.
"We have some really great looking films coming up" *only shows clips from Coco
No it doesn't have a reason for the mechs. I watch the show. They use machines sometimes but Mia's the only one to fight in a mech and she doesn't anymore. In the show those are actual dragons. This movie sounds really weird. I know it's different from the show, why I don't care about it, but it seems like changes made just make it weirder. Garmadon is also weird looking here. They did the Lego thing of putting a second body on top of the first to get the 4 arms. But the show doesn't. And while this makes him taller in the movie, it also looks really silly imo. The show doesn't do IRL stuff either. It's just a lego show but that doesn't really factor into anything.

Please give AniMat, Cartoon Palooza, Jambareeqi and Mr. Enter paid Patreon requests/votes that are to review Spark: A Space Tail. I predict that AniMat will have to end up giving Spark: A Space Tail the Seal of Garbage on AniMat's Classic Reviews (with a 2/10 to the story, 6/10 to the animation, 4/10 to the characters and 10/28 points overall). I also think Cartoon Palooza will end up giving a "FUGETABOUTIT!" rating to Spark. Jambareeqi will probably give Spark: A Space Tail 2/5 stars (0 points to the content, 2 point to the characters, 3 points to the animation, 2 points to the acting to the music and 9/25 points overall). Mr. Enter might also do an Animated Atrocities on Spark: A Space Tail soon.
I've known about the Ninjago theme and show for a long time now, but I never got into it, I was more focused on collecting Star Wars like a moron because everything is gray and dull nowadays and literally every other LEGO theme gets way more interesting pieces to work with. Anyway, this movie and all the reviews being negative about it, but praising the show got me interested in the show, and I have to say, it is a lot of fun, more fun than the movie. I'm concerned about Season 8's changes to fit in elements of the movie even though it is completely unrelated, but I'm on board with Ninjago now. So probably similar to The Last Airbender, it probably got enough people that never saw the original show interested in seeing what it was about, and then hooked them, but the movie still isn't great no matter how you look at it.
Holding on for coco
This year really isn't too much in animation, the only movies I really was/am excited about are Coco and MLP😂
Just curious Lew, but did you not realize this is a followup to multiple seasons of an animated television show? A lot of your "have it both ways" questions are addressed in the series... I mean, the series isn't much better, but the answers exist already.
I'm very much biased as they played Annie's hard knocked life and it was a bonding/singalong moment for the theater, my siblings, and I. It was amazing how the entire theatre of people full of little kids, not only knew the lyrics of the song *during* the flute playing before the song actually played but that we all decided to sing the same verses. This alone makes this movie a gem for me.
My friend Madi and I went to see the It movie, but didn't buy tickets online so it was all sold out when we got there. We ended up seeing The Lego Ninjago Movie 3D instead. Totally worth it am I right??? XD
You forgot to switch seven and eight on the list 😂 great review as always Chad!

maybe the Dinky Little Mech you mentioned is needed so they can all Combine or something?

Coming from the perspective of a fan of the show a few of your '6 times wb wanted it both ways' can be answered. It took 2 seasons for the ninja to discover their powers Cole was originally the leader until Lloyd joined the team Bullies are bullies They're ninja, not mech pilots
My main problem is the fact that Lloyd was the only ninja with any character development. The other ninja were just there to sell their mechs. And honestly, I actually forgot that Kai was in the movie when I finished it. He had barely any lines.
Hey Lewtoons! :)
So glad Every Animated Movie is back!!
I can say as someone who's binged the show this year that only one character really used mechs. Usually some form of elementally charged dragon is the ninja's transportation of choice. The exception to that would be Nya, who only recently became a ninja, as before that she WAS a mech pilot superheroine thing.
when you forget this was a serious but then remember why you loved it
5:12 This reminds me so much of Xiaolin Showdown. Raimundo, the Dragon of Wind, is picked on by Omi for being a rank behind him and the others. However, through various events, Raimundo learns to be a good leader and a better team member. In the end, he earns the title of Shoku leader. Sorry if you're not sure what the show is, but I couldn't help making the comparison, especially after seeing that some of the characters have elemental abilities like the monks do.
Two videos in the same week?! Chad really is back!
I was wondering, even though Hey Arnold the Jungle Movie isn't going to be in cinemas0 are you planning on adding it this list? It releases on 24rd November.
I'm so glad this is back. I hope that you enjoy California.
Nice review! Really funny
No one with forgive you for putting Boss Baby above Lego Ninjago Movie?
I really liked the movie's concepts, animation, dialogue, and world. But I had one big issue with it, there were some underdeveloped plot elements that should've been either given more time or cut out entirely. When the kid from Aquaman walks into the antique shop, it's established that he gets bullied and -because of that- Jackie Chan tells him a motivational story. But, because the story focuses more on the father/son relationship and -to a lesser extent- teamwork, there's hardly any time to show Lloyd overcoming his bullies and making new friends which is what Jackie wanted to encourage the kid to do. If the child had come to the shop with father/son issues instead of problems with bullying, the whole story would make a lot more sense. Plus we'd get time to know the supporting cast. The LEGO Movie had a large ensemble cast as well, but when you came out of the movie you knew all their names and had a decent grasp of their personalities. One smaller complaint is that they didn't explain why Zane is a robot, and if robots exist in this world why there aren't any others. There was another robot in the toyline, but I didn't see him in either of my two viewings of the movie which means that he was either cut or a background character that no-one will see until the home release. In the show he's the only one, but the writers had multiple episodes dedicated to explaining their backstory. They could've made some of their classmates robot, to establish that they're just a normal part of this world. Alternatively, they could've given him a narrated flashback akin to Metalbeard's.
yay! new video
How do u put rock dog over LEGO Ninjago, the only thing I agree with you on is that Cars 3 is the best animated movie so far and the emoji movie being the worst
Man, this has been a pretty awful year for animated movies...

Lewtoon's opinion on Lego Ninjano is exactly what it is: one man's opinions. Judge the movie for yourself.
I never even knew this was a thing until 5 minutes ago. It wasn't even advertised in my country, weird.
I think the main problem that this suffered from was that it tried to pander to both the old fans of the series, while trying to be new and hip for the new people introduced to Ninjago. I just didn't work well.
Took you a while
YOU LIVED IN MINNESOTA AND DIDN'T TELL ME?? I WOULD'VE CAME AND VISITED DAMN IT!
I think everything you wanted from this movie was in the TV show? From what I understand, due to poor planning and production, they tried to compile 4+ seasons into 1 movie? Like, this is all from second-hand but Llyod is actually a small anatgonist for 3 seasons as the core Ninjago group tries to get their bearings on being a team and working together, along with setting up the big baddie who is later revealed to be Llyod's dad and Llyod is also later revealed to unknowingly be the Green Ninja they've spent so long looking for. So ontop of Llyod having to learn not to be a bratty dick, he's also a child/pre-teen to everyone's teen, finds out his dad is better at evil than him and isn't accepting him very well, finds out he's destined to defeat his dad, discovers out his world view is wrong, has to try to make friends with the Ninjago group, deal with the fact that despite desiring power his whole life he has to understand their checks-and-balances of the role of leadership being a power in its own right but isn't a SUPER power, and be a leader despite their history, age gap, his lack of experience in being a ninja as compared to everyone else, being the weird new addition to an already well-known team by society at this point, and still not having full finished his character arc of Being a Good Person. I have a close friend who often ranted about the show, and everything I'm hearing being complained about Movie Llyod are because TV Show Llyod wasn't readapted very well in such an extremely different time limit.
Chad you left MN for Cali?! D: Traitor!! :P I hope your move went smoothly. I look forward to more videos as you get settled in!
I always hated Lloyd.
Love your videos and content but I disagree with pretty much every choice except the emoji movie/smurfs
Your opinions almost ever line up with mine lol. Yet Im subbed and watch all your videos~
TBT, I wouldn't be surprised if Coco comes out on the top of the list this year, it might not be the finest Pixar has done, but it's the best they've done since Inside Out
I love coming across fellow Minnesotans on the internet
You said u would do all movie of the year so does that includes movies for dvds?like yourney beyond sodor (2017)
How long were you planning to move to Cali for with all the fires?
This movie was okay. I was a tad disappointed most of the show's lore was thrown out of the window. Welp, can't have everything.
4:27 I get it Krux, as in big old glasses guy that is an elemental master in the tv show
I haven't paid much attention to Twitter, so I had no idea you moved. But I'm glad you have a good reason for the long delay. Looking forward to you ripping But Job 2 apart. It should come just above Emoji. Also, if you haven't already, watch the first Nut Job (as horrible as it is) before watching the sequel.
I've watched the show, and they tried to take all the elements of the story (them training at the same time, while also forming their powers) all at once-and sometimes doing this at the same time
Honestly the only reason I saw and loved the movie as much as I do is because I grew up watching the TV show (creatively called LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitsu lmao) and I remember reading about this movie coming out waaaaay back in 2013 or 2014 and remember being so excited about it! The show hit a LOT of those points to mentioned the movie lacked. Hell, Lloyd isn't even in the pilots and doesnt really become the leader until half way through season 2 or three. He gets introduced in teh main series right off the bat but as a 9 or 10 year old who is obbsessed with impressing his nonpresent father, candy and being evil. He even has a dorky little black hoodie with a painted on skeleton ribcage resembling his father. His brash actions and goal to be 'evil' creates most of the problems for the Ninja, especially by releasing the hated Serpentine and also the main villain at the time, Pythor. The green ninja does not exist until the end of the first or second season (my memory is foggy) and it's a topic that all the current ninja (Kai, Cole, Jay and Zane) would fight over. Also because in the show the Green Ninja is the Ultimate Spinjitsu Master, destined to defeat Garmadon and the Overlord as well as being able to control ALL of the core elements. I remember arguing with my friends over the lunch table over who the green ninja was gonna be. "Zane because he's the wisest and most mature!" "No Kai because he's the leader!" Little did our 10 year old minds realize that on lil Lloyd's jacket was a green number 5. So when Lloyd was eventually revealed as the green Ninja it was a decent curve-ball especially with the buildup that had lead to it. In the show, Garmadon is shown to have so much love for his son. It's a no brainer. Now, at this point in the show, they're trying to collect all of these Fang Blades or whatever before Pythor does, to stop him from releasing the Great Devourer, a giant snake that is basically end-times for Ninjago (and was also the snake that bit Garmadon and the poison turned him evil against his own will throughout his life.) They are collecting the final blade and all of this is happening in a volcano. All of the ninja up to this point have reached their full potential (which means mega cool elemental powers that we dont rlly see again--) and I can't quite remember the circumstances but it comes down to this: Kai and Lloyd are stuck in the volcano, lava is rising fast. Everyone else is on the Destiny's Bounty at a safe point, including a distraught Garmadon who is terrified for his son. Kai, the most stubborn ninja who wants so SO bad to be the green ninja, to be the chosen one, to take down Garmadon, has to make a decision. He has to choose to get the blade and potentially save Ninjago so much suffering. Or save the 10 year old son of Garmadon. The scene ends with a zoom on Kai's face before cutting to the view from the bounty where the volcano then explodes. Luckily, we see that Kai reached his full potential in making that decision and has Lloyd with him, his powers had protected both of them. The scene that follows is really happy, we see that Lloyd and his dad are back together, it's so cute seeing this family hugging and caring for each other so much and then we get the reveal. Kai explains that in the moment he had to make that decision, he realized his true purpose;p to protect the green Ninja. Everyone then celebrates about how cool it is that they finally found out, Garmadon is proud but then the realization sinks in. Lloyd will have to fight and destroy Garmadon, his Father. And let me tell you, at the time, that hit HARD. Look basically my point is, if you want to see the Ninjas at their full potential, watch the TV show (At least until Rebooted, Rebooted and up is,,,,, eh to say the least. The pilots, serpentine and Overlord seasons are the best ones and the ones they planned to start and end with, and you can truly tell that.)
Half of these problems are solved by the explanation of having seen the show beforehand and the other half are handled WAY better in the show.
Holy cow I would have never guessed you lived in MN! I live there currently! Good luck in CA!!
Was it eighth place or seven place you put in the seventh spot but have the number eight. Beside it
The series are better. I cri and laugh. The movie just seemed rushed. The first time I saw the trailer, I was triggered.
I actually really liked this movie. The story’s almost complete focus on Lloyd and his father was sad and heartwarming. I really felt sympathy for Lloyd. He was just a kid wanting to do right, but he was screwing up. Like in the scene where he’s watching his friends getting destroyed by the cat and he’s shouting and tearing up because he knows it’s all his fault. That got me. Lord Garmadon was really funny and fun to watch. The themes of parents and father/son bond were nicely done. I do all have faults, though. The rest of the characters were really pushed aside to make way for the Lloyd story. They had little to no development. The first half was really cheesy, basically formulaic. I figured they would be smart about it and point out the tropes and cliches but they never did. They just followed the formula. The animation, although beautiful and I still very much like it, doesn’t feel entirely LEGO. The characters move more like animated characters and not legos, if you catch my drift. They’re not as blocky and stop motion-like as seen in The LEGO Movie. This film definitely didn’t need to be done in LEGO, it could’ve worked fine without that style. Which makes it less unique but not bad overall. In the end, I’m glad I saw the movie as someone who grew up watching the show. Speaking of the show, i don’t mind that they took the movie in a different direction from the show. As Jackie Chan said in the beginning of the movie, this is the legend behind the legend of Ninjago. This is a new story from the one we already know from the show. “To truly see it, you must see it in a different perspective.” I took this as the film telling us that we need to accept this movie as a new story different from the show.
Anyone else notice 8 next the Ninjago movie, was it even below Smurfs at one point?
Honestly if you didn't like the movie but loved the concept or some of the characters then i recommend taking a look at the show they flesh out the characters and it's not centred around just Lloyd, it has other story lines and elements in it.

Virgin Ninjago vs Chad Batman
I watched the show and let me tell you The Movie's not the same as the show.
Pleeeease tell me you'll be reviewing the breadwinner! I love cartoon saloon, and I can't wait for it to come out!
Pretty bad year for animated movies, but pretty good year for video games....win some lose some!
he obviously hasn't seen the ninjago series. i haven't seen the movie but maybe he could have to better conclusions with the series.
Yeah, I didn't really like it either. I'd actually watched some of the show and knew big points of it. And then the movie like didn't do any of that. Like, weren't they supposed to be in ancient China? With like dragons and shit? (I'm still upset that they replaced the dragons with mechs. Saw that episode. Hated it.) To me, this felt like a poorly written AU fanfiction.
To be honest It is based on this old francise and to be honest, it threw out EVERYTHING that the original did It's basically a bad re-boot One thing that I hate alot is: Zane(white ninja/robot) just acts like a dude with out humor in the original and in the movie it's this "beep-boop-yes-I-am-a-human"
It's actually luh-loyd
