i hate to be that person, but in the original story theres a reason why noone has ciderellas shoe size. It's established that she has abnormally small feet which is how the idea of searching for her with the shoe even comes to mind. It seems like every adaption of the story just ignored that detail even though it's literally the key part of the whole plot.

This was the first Cinderella (Japanese ver.)I watched growing up, and I remember watching the Disney version years later and thought “Didn’t Cinderella have a secret brick compartment in their basement” then I found out last year that I was watching the Goodtime’s version. My parents bought loads of goodtime Vhs tapes thinking it was disney. They didn’t know the difference. So yea, that’s my childhood -also I still remember the lyrics to their song. It’s a good song lol-

I had the knock off little mermaid and cinderella and i actually kinda enjoyed them. The cinderella songs are quite catchy.

Yeah, I actually preferred this movie to the Disney version when I was small. I guess little 3 year old me didn't care about animation quality or songwriting haha. And to be fair it's a really nice version of the story. The Disney live action version actually used some of the same story beats as this version did, which I really found surprising.

I am darclua who is you They don't own the original, however they do own their variation of it. Anyone can make a Cinderella story, and won't run into too many problems. It's when it's similar to Disney's version they go after them.

Was the Disney adaptation the *first* one where "fur slippers" were mistranslated/altered for "glass"? (Therefore, making it the norm for future retellings) 'Cause it's personal alterations from the source material such as these that someone can claim ownership to, not the source material itself.

you really think this movie would exist if Disney didn't make it first? Please. These movies are low-hanging fruit for companies like goodtimes because the original stories are public domain so they can capitalize on Disney's adaptations without paying royalties. There have been good adaptions of fairytales besides Disney's--Ever After, in my opinion, is a better and more enjoyable Cinderella adaptation than Disney's. These movies don't suck because they're telling a story Disney already told, they suck because they're soulless cash grabs.

Yeah, and Disney never mentions that 'Cinderella' isn't her real name, nor do they show how she got the nickname from sleeping in front of the fireplace. That's something directly from source material that isn't borrowed from Disney. Just because it's cheaper, doesn't mean it shouldn't have the right to exist. Plus, every time Disney makes a movie, they are re-telling a different story, often times something that already exists in the form of a popular book. Winnie the Pooh, Fairy tale stories, Jungle Book, 101 Dalmatians, The Lion King, The Great Mouse Detective.... all re-tellings of other people's stories. And Lion King is a great example, because everybody loves Lion King - would you call it a knock-off of Kimba? No, because it stands on it's own merit and it does a lot of things differently.

Oh shoot, I watched this version as a kid along with Disney's Cinderella. My parents, who didn't know English at the time and still don't, thought it would be good idea to buy it for me since I was obsessed with Cinderella. Honestly the Spanish dub of Good Times Cinderella is better.

Mathmachine I don’t think they can because they are using royalty free stories like Disney does. So by copy right law they can’t get sued for the naming convention but can be sued for having a strong connection to art work of any other company if they have copy rights over those images.

K this was driving me crazy and I had to stop the video a minute in to solve a childhood mystery. For some reason, I immediately recognized and knew literally every single word to that "Dream on Cinderella" song and I've never seen this Good Times Cinderella film! So naturally, I was a bit confused! But after some digging on Google, I found out that I had an audio cassette with this song and other kids songs on it that I used to listen to often during long car rides. It was called "OLD McDONALD'S FAVORITES" and the songs included were: Old McDonald's Farm / Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush / We're A Team / Dream On Cinderella / Simon Says / Home On The Range / Start With A Smile / Polly Wally Doodle / Picinic Song / Kookaburra / Poison Ivy / Who Stole The Cookie From The Cookie Jar. MYSTERY SOLVED! Now back to the review :)

Dude, Goodtimes' bread and butter was releasing cheap versions of the stories Disney put out--they've done it tens of times and purposely released their versions around the same time Disney did to fool customers in the direct-to-video market. The only reason they didn't do that with this one is because Disney's came out in 1950 and obviously predated Goodtimes as a company by decades. Technically, they did it legally because it was based on the public domain source material but don't kid yourself, they made this 100% to capitalize on Disney popularizing the story in the first place. Again, adapting Cinderella isn't the problem. Tons, and I mean TONS of movies and books have done the same, but this version is just soulless and obviously had little effort put into it. Sorry if you grew up with it, but that was the kind of company Goodtimes was.

This version was honestly my favorite, just because it brings back nostalgia from better times

My little sister used to watch this on DVD every night. However, she would fall asleep before the movie ended. So the DVD would go back to the title where they played that god awful song. Worst of all no one would be bothered to get out of bed to sort it. And now the words "dream on Cinderella" haunts my childhood. True story

oh god, my brother did this with several series shows. married with children being the worst of it. try listening to "love and marriage, love and marriage goes together like a horse and carriage..." for hours until he wakes up and starts the same disk over again so not only listening to that song over and over but then listening to the same episodes play over and over >_

Before watching comment: No matter what the verdict will be for this one I LOVED it when I was a kid! See I just found this one to be way more entertaining than the Disney version, and I could only watch it in the kids corner at the super market in town, which made me overjoyed whenever we went grocery shopping haha! Well, how do I put this? Goodtime's Rudolph had a heavily flawed plot, the villains were actually in the right (with their rage and actions justified) and they spent a lot of their budget on celebrity voices like Gene Simmons and Whoopi Goldberg. Which left the animation choppy and repeated in a number of places. And the human-like characters are very multi-ethnic, which isn't a bad thing in and of itself, but when the struggles are about conformity and being bullied for not being like everyone else, it kinda clashes. Truly, it was Norm of the North before Norm of the North. But hey, if you like Goodtimes, that's perfectly fine.

Isn't it strange that Cinderella from Goodtimes looks almost excatly like her prince?

I think this is the ONLY GoodTimes Disney knock off film, that i ACTUALLY like!!

Judge me, I really liked this version of Cinderella as a kid! Obv I liked the disney version more but I found this one cute and enjoyable. I really liked the opening song , and that “where have you been song” & found the movie it comedic (probably not for the intended reasons) I hated everythig else by goodtimes though lol

i love how this Cinderella has like a hiding place for her special things in the box behind the three bricks she has to pull it out to make a space and then insert those bricks back to make it the same. 😂😂😂 the fire sound in the fireplace is also satisfying asf.

How come there are boring scenes with cat chasing mice for like a half of the film. And they have annoying squeeky voices. Meh at least this version is more focused on Cinderella. Also this Cinderella have more character in my opinion. I only liked a film about her arranging a royal bal because focus was on her not mice and cat.

I actually like this version more than the Disney one, at least the prince freaking recognizes her without the slipper in this one!

When I saw the thumbnail, I was like "Is that the version my Nana had on VHS?" And as soon as the intro music started playing, "Yep, that's the one!" To be honest, though, the Disney one never really addressed how Cinder-ella got her nickname (do we even know it's a nickname in the Disney version?), whereas this version actually shows her sleeping by the fireplace... so that's something this version has going for it, despite being a low budget film.

I love that those "lentils" are clearly beans.

I appreciated the Single Ladies joke, but then again,, I appreciate any reference to that song.

i randomly get the intro song re-stuck in my head still 10 years later lmaoo. i grew up on all these weird "knockoffs" cause my mom never let me watch disney. ngl, no regrets.

This version has a special place on my heart because it was my favorite movie when me and my sister were little. Looking back on it, older, and with more experience in storytelling, I can see its flaws, but it has more strengths than you gave it credit for. I liked the duet between the prince and cinderella. I think it gives a sense of them actually caring that the Disney version lacks. I can admit that most of the reason I liked it when I was younger was the bright colors and details, but it has its merits. Dream on Cinderella is a good song, anyhow.

Dude when I was five I ended up getting the Cinderella DVD and the Little Mermaid one in a boxset with two Kelly dolls and I used to watch them ALL THE TIME. Do Sleeping Beauty next, please! (If I still had it I would send it to you.)

Based on how the movie looked in the review.. I might actually like this movie ó.0 The songs to me were nice. The song about girls should dream isnt bad because they did add the part that her dad became wealthy from hard work. Plus, i like the artstyle. It's appealing.

As someone whose parents bought them the knockoff little mermaid, the only thing i liked about it as a kid was the opening number... i can assure you, i did not have a goodtime watching that film...

My family sent me the Polish dub of the Little Mermaid knockoff when I was a child, bless their heart. Even then I thought her head was... abnormally large.

Overall that "all the single ladies" part hit me XD I'm crying, that was such a fun edit!! Keep it up with your awesome videos!

Honestly, this one seems pretty... inoffensive compared to the knockoff stuff. It's the exact same story, just with more mediocre animation, sound, and songs. Nothing really seemed to deviate much from the Disney movie. Kinda just a boring thing to review, I guess is what I'm saying (especially since the original story is also pretty trash). Although, it's hard to shake The Legend of the Titanic from my mind, so maybe I just have a high standard for knockoff stuff. THAT movie is a trainwreck knockoff if there ever was one. Just be prepared to be compared to Jontron if you review it, though.

Try the Pochahontas knockoff version. It's so annoying, even to my childhood self.

about the slipper not changing back: in the original tale the slippers were a present from the godmother, and not part of the spell. but in almost NO reincarnation of cinderella has this ever been mentioned, not even in the disney movie.

At least the animators in this made sure the stepmother didn't make us want to cry in a corner with her *shudder* _stare........._
