    Except the cracking down the middle, the screams of the children trapped in third class, the screeching of metal being stretched to the limits of it's strength, the silence of realization that there weren't enough life boats for even half those on board, and the Titanic's silent weeping as she sank to the depths of the watery graveyard we call the Atlantic Ocean to only be discovered a decade before a century had passed and become a mere pile of rust next to three propellers before five centuries can sneak by.

I tried my hand at designing a Titanic model in LDD a while back and they used some incredible techniques I never would've thought of. @@TayebMC Considering how similar they were, and that Titanic actually featured improvements to Olympic's layout, it's somewhat safe to say that Titanic was subjectively better than Olympic. Of course, Titanic never got much chance to shine with these improvements. Olympic was refitted to be safer, and some of Titanic's improvements were given to Olympic over the years. Britannic was supposed to be better than both of her earlier sisters, but she also never got the chance to shine as she was pressed into war service. Fun fact: while Titanic was slightly heavier than Olympic (as in total displacement), the real reason why Titanic was considered larger than Olympic was entirely due to her having more usable interior space.

Which is accurate for the midship section, but I had hoped, at this scale, they might be able to find a more elegant solution for the transition between the midship and the bow/stern portions. Still, a nice model. But its price and particularly its size mean I'm probably gonna skip this one.

    I'm still happy I bought this thing. _Yes,_ it's expensive as all hell but it's perfect. I'll admit, I went through _hell_ for building it for an entire week and I screwed up on some steps on the Bow and Stern, but that went all out of the window the minute I completed the entire set. My only criticism is that I feel the masts feel a bit...bent-like due to the strings, but I did notice that issue with some others who completed the set

    I have been a LEGO fan since I was old enough to walk and have several Expert Builder sets still complete with boxes. I am on the fence about the new stuff because of the astronomical amount of special parts and general feel like these require far too much instruction and leave nothing to the imagination. The bricks, plates, wheels, gears, etc.. of the old sets could create cars, quads, trucks with suspension and engines but the new stuff is essentially bags of plastic confetti and three giant assembly manuals. Oh, and it's EXPENSIVE!!

  • @diatonicdelirium1743

    @diatonicdelirium1743

    Expensive is not an argument for me as it used to be worse when I was young! You might want to try out some newer sets anyway because the design language has certainly changed and many more pieces are available, but that is a matter of getting used to and the build results are visually much better than what was ever possible. For instance, I have the 8880 super car from the fully studded technic era, and it still is a great build... but the end result does look dated. During the 'fusion period' around y2k I bought the barcode truck and 8448 super car, both with a nice mix of beams and lift-arms, and these already look the part while still being proper good technic. After a bit of life interfering I got back into Lego two years ago and bought the big 'rough terrain crane' 42082 - a revelation. This set is proper good and shows off a slick finished technic model with loads of functions and built in motor. Long story short: the nostalgia factor for my studded Lego starting from the 70s is still present, but the wealth of new parts and possibilities is fantastic. Now that I have grandchildren I'm already collecting 'the best of' City as well, here too great evolution and truly wonderful sets, despite some of the colour mess and proliferation of small parts.
