It is possibly worth noting that the prototypical locomotive is also articulated in three sections like the model. The main difference however is there are no wheels attached to the middle cab section, instead they are fixed to the front and rear ‘snouts’.

Great review and comments about good and bad things. Yeah, I agree it is odd that the instruction has a black background,. LEGO have a lot of testbuilders, (families outside LEGO System), that build and review everything on the sets - boxes, instructions building experiences etc. before it goes into production. And I agree that the 18 plus is to high.

Great review! Well I'm very confused about the black background for the instruction, in this particular moment where all are involved to reduce the pollution, a company like Lego use tons of black ink to print a book that is also difficult to read! And the other things is that use plastic for all the small bags to contain the pieces...why not to use paper??? Anyway the model looks good... I think that the hub and the motor are very expensive: to buy both you spent almost the same for the model.

  • @aarekk1

Great review. Today I received my Crocodile. Believe me or not, one part was missing and it was the big flanged wheel!!! They are packed in sets of 3, but one bag was torn and only 2 wheels left. My locomotive looks like a 3 legged table now... I asked Lego immediately for replacement part and they answered really quickly that part is out of stock and guess what they wrote... "Lots of fans sell old LEGO pieces online, so you may be able to buy the needed part second-hand"... I am collecting and playing Lego sets for over 35 years and this is the first time anything is missing, and it is something so important for the entire structure... I am really disappointed. Not because of a packaging error, although it ruined all the fun from building, but more of the customer approach in the complaint department.

Thank you for the review! Good as usual... :) Will you mod it with Buwizz and buggy motor? xD I created a train program in PU with remote for a friend, and tbh: I like how easy and clean the "code" can be and that you can implement some extra features like changing the light of the hub, different hard/smooth break modes and display of the target and real speed. I realy hope the new update is released soon (it should have already been released according to your interview.... narf) and we can customize even more. =)

One thing that bothers me about this set is the 3rd and 4th gauge axles aren’t supposed to be static under the cab and rather also swivel with the noses, according to the Swiss CE 6/8 II. Looking forward to seeing someone take a shot at making this set “more realistic”. There’s an interesting concept I saw a long time ago by a steam engine MOC creator where he swiveled the train bogie along a rotating axle to power a bogie. I could definitely picture someone doing something similar with this set with one motor for each of the noses. www.flickr.com/photos/steampoweredbricks/5272700291/

In principle I like this because it's an 18+ train (let's hope for more, like the glorious Emerald Night) and it has coupling rods!... but then methinks the pantographs are disproportionately big for the model, and the gap between the three sections is too big - although I realise this was necessary to facilitate turning on a curve.
