    Another great episode, Brian. I took the plunge on a '23 RF last year, and am impressed that they made an already-great car better for '24. But although the improvements sound great, your insightful review made me feel like my older car isn't total crap compared to the new one, which I appreciate. Thanks!

    Looking forward to getting mine! I've got a 2024 that's currently in transit and should be here in a couple of weeks. It's set up just like this one here - Club trim, manual, soft top, with the BBS/Brembo/Recaro package. Only thing was I got it in white (had Soul Red on my 2020 MX-5 and currently have it on my 2023 Mazda3 Turbo hatch so I couldn't do it again). Can't wait for it to get here and take advantage of the summer driving season!

    TY Brian for this update video on the 2024 Club soft top with the BBR option. Still on the fence about trading in my 2016 MX-5 Club sof top speced with the Brembo / BBS but cloth seats. Thing is prices have jumped quite a bit & I have added some mods I really love. Front PPF / Flying Miata active exhaust / Verus Engineering Air Oil Separator. So to move off my ND1 would be a significant cost. Not to mention my car has none of the nannies telling me what I already know. Like the interview with Dave explaining that new asymmetrical differential ! Great stuff ! 😎

    The 2019 power upgrade combined with the 2024 interior/steering upgrade would be a big step up from your 2016. I am holding out for Mazda to hopefully announce a SE for 2025.

  • @ag4allgood

    @ag4allgood

    Ай бұрын

    @@Chilicharger665 To me that power upgrade extends the rpm's. The torque curve on the ND1 is virtually the same down at 1st & 2nd gears. That is where much of the momentum is built up. Steering / infotainment / driving dynamics / heated / Recarro seats is what the Huge price increase means to me. Is it worth all that $$$ ?

  • @Chilicharger665

    @Chilicharger665

    @@ag4allgood i bought a 2016 new and a 2019 new. I thought the 2019 engine upgrade was EXACTLY what was needed. Now with the interior and steering improvements, I definitely think all that along with the things you mentioned is worth it. I already have some spare BBS wheels, so I don’t care about those. I really do enjoy the extra brake feel the Brembos provide, so they are worth it. Recaros actually feel like a sports car seat and are worth it. However, I want a full-house GT. The reason I want to hold out for a SE is because that is the only time Mazda will combine the GT features with all the Club performance bits. The last time they did that was the 2019 Anniversary Edition.

    I’m still over the moon with my ‘23 club. Did some springs, sway bars and a proper alignment and it’s such a blast. Glad the Miata lives on for ‘24, surprised they didn’t do a 35th anniversary color since it technically started in 1989. Maybe they’re waiting until 2025.

    Mazda Philippines did a Miata Cup 23rd Anniversary Edition this year, I guess it's been for sale there for only 23 years (or 23 years of the Cup Edition?) not 35 like in the USA.. It's not a single color, it looks like a racing graphics package really. Only 23 units available for the country.

    @@Quidisi I honestly think they don't want to tool up or change the assembly line for additional colors for a low production number car like the MX-5. I'm sure they have it figured out the cost to add colors vs selling numbers vs income being made. People who want an MX-5 are getting one whatever the colors available and adding colors won't change the number sold. Hell they don't even offer their full color line o n the MX-5... I really want that light blue they offer. Plus most people seem to enjoy boring colors... although maybe this is because what is available?

    Is it just me, or is the exhaust quieter? Are there gasoline particulate filters or something? And how is the intake noise? Does it sound the same on the inside vs an ND2? How is the throttle response? I saw they did a slight change to throttle tuning and want to make sure the car isn't mushier or slower to pickup on throttle stab vs an ND2. Does the Bose sound system sound as good with the new infotainment and therefore, probably a different amp than the ND2? Also, how on earth did the car gain 18lbs? (Apparently up 24lbs to 2374lbs in Canada 🤷‍♂️) Great review man, despite my concerns, it still looks like an excellent drivers' car considering all the gov't red tape of our post-2020 life. The improvements to steering feedback and diff stability are welcome

  • @BrianMakse

    @BrianMakse

    Ай бұрын

    Glad you enjoyed the episode! Without measuring it, the exhaust and intake seem to be about the same volume, but to my ears the exhaust has a little more low frequency to it. Throttle response seems to be about the same as ND2. As good as ever. The Bose is fine, better than the base system, but I'm not the guy to ask. Several years racing loud Hondas did some damage. Curb weight increases often go unreported and then show up in one fell swoop, which could be the case here.

    I have a 2023 Miata and just test drove a 2024.Im a fairly good driver but don't have your experience ( Although when I was young I went to formula ford racing school at Sears point and won on race day) as well I don't have your confidence so what I noticed that you might not is when i'm guilty sometimes of lifting off throttle in a corner where your confidence would stop you from this and what I noticed is it seemed not to feel as nervous as my 2023.I'm not sure if the new steering helped at all and i'm sure I have the same tires so I think it's the Diff.And by the way I also had a Toyota Supra 82-86 mine being an 86 and I just loved that car.I put 300k on it and not once did it break down but wasn't it funny that from outside it looked so long in front but from inside you felt like their was a submarine behind the drivers seat.

    I am torn between buying a new Mazda MX-5, or a pre-owned (flat 6) Porsche Boxster (well cared for). The Boxster is, obviously, more thrilling to drive, which is a BIG deciding factor, and the purchase price would be about the same. Thoughts?

    I might be biased as a nd2 owner. but miata is lighter. the gearing is more fun for the street. and it's much much cheaper to track since all the consumables and mods are dirt cheap. and you have more modern creature comfort than an older boxster.

    --> and what will be the unpleasant surprises in terms of engine management? Have you more important information? if I don't make a mistake...because the level of CO2 emissions per kilometer decreases (for 2.0 engine)...and this has consequences on the engine and its reliability. this has been visible among other automobile manufacturers for many years...

    I gotta be honest: I was glad to unload my Miata after 2 years of ownership. Just too, too, too many areas of "Friday afternoon engineering", poor tuning and lazy cost-cutting. The car handles terribly, as if it is on stilts. It seems to have good front end grip, but that is only because there is no rear grip. That is the way muscle cars in the 1970's handled. The engine was 100% dull econobox. At least 3 people called it a "lawnmower". The seat is 4 inches too high. The rear-view mirror comes straight from a mazda minivan from 1990. In the end there were 3 surprises: 1) great headlights 2)good stereo 3) looked great. But there is a reason everyone immediately puts coilovers and aftermarket wheels on this thing.

  • @BrianMakse

    @BrianMakse

    You must have a very unique driving style to arrive at the conclusion that an MX-5 doesn’t possess balanced handling. Plenty of owners mess up their cars by poor aftermarket wheel, tire, and suspension choices.

    You used to be able to pick up miatas for $2K. Because lets be honest, they are kinda shitboxes, they handle well and the shift feel is great but thats it. The engine is anemic, they rust, average reliability and are as loud as it cane be driving around in one. I've lost interest, they were cheap toys that are now collectable trans formers. Not worth it imo.

    "....when the automobile industry moves forward", right off the bat - the industry has been moving backward for a couple decades now. The auto industry has been steadily producing lower quality, uglier and harder to operate vehicles. Not all progress moves forward. Otherwise, great review, love the car... not so much the tech additions though. I'd prefer they remove the center screen entirely, but that's just me.
