Episode 8
Legacy of the Wizard may be the most under rated NES game OF ALL TIME!
It's one of the earliest Metroidvania titles, and has an absolutely MASSIVE world to explore. For a game released in the late 1980's it has a ton of depth!
There are 5 playable characters, 16 different items you can equip, and thrilling 8-bit boss battles!
HOWEVER, this game does absolutely NOTHING to guide the player. Without the instruction manual or a guide like this one, you'd have no idea what you were even looking for!
In this video we will:
*Explore the history of this game's development, and how it relates to other games like Faxanadu, Ys, and even Streets of Rage!
*Demonstrate a way to get a ton of gold FAST!
*Find ALL of the game's items hidden within the labyrinth!
*Witness strategies for defeating ALL of the game's challenging bosses!
*Learn a non-traditional path through the game that will make everything MUCH easier!
*Discover SECRET TRICKS used by the pros like the "Pause Jump", although none of the strategies require it!
*Show a SECRET CODE that gives you nearly infinite life, and maxes out all of the items - No Game Genie necessary!
SPECIAL THANKS to viewer A A for recommending this game in the comments on one of my previous videos! If anyone has games they'd like to see me cover that can be completed in 30-90 minutes, please leave a message in the comments.
Thanks for watching!

To anyone who beat the game legitimately, you have my sincere respect. I remember renting it a few times, but like he says in the video, i just had no idea what i was supposed to do.

Everyone remembers this game's difficulty, but lets acknowledge the top tier soundtrack. Some of the best music to ever grace the NES system.

My grandmother was the one who got me into JRPGs (she was an awesome human being) and this was one of the first games she and I collaborated on beating when I was a kid (she did most of the puzzle solving and I helped get her past the parts that required twitch reflexes). When I wasn’t visiting her we swapped hints over the phone and helped each other find items (she more than me). Even though I was the one who beat the bosses, she did most of the heavy lifting, and pretty much figured this whole game out on her own. To this day I can’t see this game without thinking of how lucky I was to have such an amazing grandmother.

There's something rather uplifting about a game that centers around a mom, dad and their kids working together to save the world as well as the fact that the first born son starts off "weaker" than everyone else but ends up being the one to take on the game's big bad. A coming of age story but this time the hero's family is along for the ride. That doesn't happen often with these kinds of games.

One of my top 5 favorite NES games! An underrated gem for sure! A pioneer in “open world” platforming. Lots of replay value and great puzzle solving mechanics. Faxanadu is also one of my favorite NES games. Would love to see a remake of this game. (PS I did beat it when I was a kid! It was a combination of calling the Nintendo Power line and as well ordering a complete map of the game, which I can’t remember where that came from.)

I loved this game as a kid. My older brother bought it so thanks to him reading the manual, I was aware of the goal. I got all the crowns as a kid, but teleporting using the princess images was something I was not aware of until much later when I beat the game was an adult.

Using Xemn with the armor to get Pochi's crown is a good idea. However, the armor is bugged. Even with the armor, sometimes the mobs you kill on touch will damage you anyway. This has happened to me a couple of times against the instadeath mimic. An alternative is to go down one screen from the crown, and farm the spawning fireballs that appear near the shop and inn with the power boots until an invincibility potion spawns. Then you can collect it and climb back up to jump past the instadeath mimic.

Wow! That game was so cryptic when I tried to play it. To think on my attempts that the map took me in the wrong directions every time so that explains why I got nowhere fast. Nintendo Power didn't offer any help much either.

A very well done walkthrough. I've been looking for a channel like this for years ever since I used to have video game VHS tapes as a kid. Your walkthrough is VERY detailed so thank you for that. I've had this game for 20+ almost 30 years now and didn't know some of these things, especially the 100+ damage mimic.
