Left AIC Pattern But No Pain: Top 5 Reasons.

If all people are a Left AIC Right BC pattern, why do some people have significant back, muscle, and joint pain while others don't? It's a great question and one I try to answer in this video.
Here are my top 5:

2. Muscle and Joint Tissue Pathology
3. Time Under Tension

5. Happiness

    When you’re in pain, your world shrinks. If you’re also shrinking away from unpleasant things around you (like a dysfunctional relationship or crappy working environment) then you can end up feeling isolated and even ostracising yourself. It’s stressful and lonely and can become self-perpetuating. Holy moly…pain, shrinking, dysfunction, stress and self-perpetuating - it’s like an analogy for being stuck in the left-AIC pattern. And neither one is any fun. Thanks again for making and sharing these videos.

    I am definitely #1 - my eye hand coordination has always been outstanding and I was an athlete for most of my young adult life - everyone would say what an incredible athlete I was, however I was always aware of not feeling as stable on left leg (and as a ski racer, tuning to the right was more difficult) - so it’s interesting for me because I have SO much body awareness and every trainer had no idea what I was talking about because I would pass all the tests - and I was always trying to “correct it” was various modalities which I think just made even more compensatory (along with a PT who told me my right leg is shorter and I remember looking at him like “even I know this requires scanning to confirm and is extremely rare”) - grateful for PRI, I’m 2 courses in and it’s really helping me better understand the work I’m doing with my PRI PT - everyone - family and colleagues still think I’m crazy (what are you talking about?”), but I finally feel seen thanks to PRI

    This is a incredible Video! I have severe Left AIC problems. My left hip is anteriorly rotated my right shoulder is Low and I’ve now been diagnosed with slipping rib syndrome on my left side I never noticed I had any of these problems when I was working out except for some hip pain but once I went to the doctors and I found out about these problems they suggested I stop working out and once i did that my pain has just went crazy ever since. I haven’t been in the gym for awhile cause I thought rest would help but it has done nothing but make my problems worse I’ve also just haven’t been happy at all and your video is helping me realize being unhappy and inactive can be a big deal for the problems I have.

    Great video. I’ve often wondered why I’m in a Left aic pattern with no pain, but your comments about bodily sense makes complete sense - I’ve always been very aware of my movements and position (I was the kid who obsessed with getting my deadlift form perfect in the gym rather than how much weight was on the bar) and I noticed something was off as soon as my pattern started and found PRI from researching about left and right asymmetry’s. I believe had I been ignorant to it it would have progressed to pain. I also believe my hyper mobility could play a role, being able to be comfortable in positions that others would be at the limit of their motion. I’ve been Deep diving into your videos and other practitioners on instagram and am loving learning about PRI and applying it to myself, and am making significant progress towards neutrality (believe I have a fairly straightforward case). I’m even strongly considering a career in PRI! Thank you for all you do Neal 🙏

I remember having psoriasis in 2012 that was a big shock to me I was only 21 and I think the stress from seeing my skin rashes covered a lot of my body was depressing the same year when my back pain started. And right now it all makes so much sense Neal

    I just wanted to say thank you so much for your channel, knowledge and passion for helping us get over pain and understand the asymmetric make up of our body that causes this. I recently had to go off sick from firefighting as my back was in spasm and I was barely able to move. I had 3 physios sessions which helped but I ignored his advice about strengthening my weak long left hip flexor when I found your channel and focused on the 4 hip shift exercises and breathing into my left lower back and into my right ribs and up into right upper chest. As a result I didn't have to cancel my first ski trip for 2 years and by focusing on your techniques my body got better and better every day. I was actually scared before I left that as usual my back would lock up as I skied. Thank you so much for your guidance and openness, getting that ski holiday and my freedom of movement back means the works to me. Would it be ridiculous to ask if you can recomend any you tube channels for overall fitness and strength training? I currently do yoga with breath and flow and hiit with growing with Anna but fear both of these are not congruent with your overall fitness and strength training philosophy....

    Couldn't agree more with the themes of this video. Happiness, openness, being curious as opposed to being angry, scared, tense, thinking you know have lead to times of pain for me.... On the pathology of open Thomas test what do you recommend to stabilise that left hip joint? Maybe strengthening that hip flexor is correct as well as doing your hip shift exercises 🤔

    Super useful videos Neal! Thank you so much for sharing all of this knowledge. I have had this issue for many years, though it went unnoticed as my body learned to compensate. In the past 5 years, however, it got worse and worse. I have recently been checked by a chiropractor who was finally able to explain what is going on. I am now going to her once/week for adjustments, blocks technique for stabilising the pelvis, I do your 4 basic exercises as often as I can. I have just started my journey towards recovery. But I feel like my mental power is failing me. I feel like I will never do what I dream to do: weights and boxing. I'm 33 yet my body feels like 90. Can someone with already chronic symptoms recover? How can I survive this? I'm strong, but I'm tired.

    Neil, I've watched this video and most of the rest of the videos on your YT channel and I have one question to which I can't find an answer: Ok, say I do the exercises. But what about the very many trigger points that this postural situation created in time? I've been walking with this issue for the past 5 years and it only got worse and worse. Those trigger points formed because those muscles have been constantly 'on'. How can we improve these? Starlanyl and Sharkey mention in their book, 'Healing through trigger point therapy', that muscle strength cannot be restored in a muscle which harbors TrPs. First we need to turn these off and then proceed to strength. What's your take on this? Have you suffered from multiple, active TrPs? If yes, how did you treat them?

  • @NealHallinan

    @NealHallinan

    2 жыл бұрын

    Muscles turn "off" via appropriate sensory input. Working on a muscle to change the behavior of the muscle misses the reason that the muscles are "on". It's a brain issue, rarely an actual muscle issue. The muscle will be just fine once the brain received the appropriate sensory input so it can process the appropriate muscular output. I've never had to do any trigger point therapy on anyone, nor myself. hope that helps.

    Hi Neil, one quick question. Won't make more sense in a right TMCC pattern to actually sit on the right hip bone since the jaw deviates to the right ? i've noticed im getting better results like this , so i just sit on the right hip bone , with right leg straight , left leg at round 45 degrees oriented left like 15 20 degrees.... noticed that actually jaw started to move, eyes also open up on close up work like the ciliary muscle releasing ( since we are both farsighted makes sense to work up close to find the active focus mechanism and i think i found mine ) thanks.

  • @NealHallinan

    @NealHallinan

    2 жыл бұрын

    The jaw deviates to the left in the R TMCC. If it’s to the right, it’s likely due to torque in the cranium (like I was torqued). What you may find is that you actually access the left side of your body more easily than the left.

    Anterior left hip instability is a "patho left AIC" issue, and the vast majority of people who see me have path left hips. PRI is made for this issue, it's where all treatment actually starts. You need left hamstring, adductor, anterior glute med, internal obliques to stabilize the left hip. It's all standard PRI.

Have you seen on yt or somewhere those korean doctors?
