What Beethoven is to Classical music, Led Zeppelin is to Rock and Roll! Stairway to Heaven is on many lists as the greatest song ever, including my list. The composition of the music builds as if you're actually climbing the Stairway to Heaven. The lyrics are written in a way that can be interpreted any way the listener needs them to be. This song is almost 50 years old and I've been listening to it over 40 years and that solo never fails to give me goosebumps!

Heidi Thomas NONSENSE! They weren’t “ripped” from others. The arrangements and performances were light years beyond the original blues masters’ versions-they were interpretations, not rip offs. Borrowing is a hallmark in the blues tradition-the Stones did it, Hendrix did it,!Clapton did it-even the old blues masters themselves did it. EVERY artist leverages their influences. Zeppelin just gets especially targeted by the haters because they’re the big boy on the block. With the exception of some lyrics that Robert lifted from Willie Dixon-for which they settled out of court-there really is no comparison. Keep in mind, only lyrics and melodies can be copyrighted, NOT progressions. To this day, we STILL do not know from where many of these progressions originate, so they fall within the public domain. Besides, had it not be for bands like Zeppelin, many of the old blues masters works would have been largely forgotten to the conscience of the wider public. So, it all goes in cycles. Your characterization that there wasn’t much originality couldn’t be more wrong. It’s rock and roll, not Beethoven. You really don’t know what you’re talking about.

This is the greatest song ever written. I grew up with Led Zeppelin and the band members often visited my house to see my dad. Dad repaired their cars and motorbikes. They were all lovely and I remember we were all invited to John Bonham's house for a BBQ and his son Jason played the drums. Jason still plays the drums and sometimes plays with a tribute band called Fred Zeppelin who play the local clubs. I visit John's grave occasionally to pay respects and it is always surrounded by unopened beer bottles which the vicar clears away. They were happy days. Thank you for sharing and reviewing this great band. I think you should play more Led Zeppelin: Black Dog and the Immigrant Song - both great tracks.
