Zeppelin were together from mid 1968-1980, when the drummer died and the band died along with him. They were the kings of blues rock and hard rock 1969- to at least 1975. As a famous interviewer once said “If you were to look up the phrase “sex, drugs and rock and roll, there would be a picture of Led Zeppelin there”. These four guys were the zenith of the virile, alluring “rock god” mystique that many tried to copy. None did it with quite the swagger of Zeppelin. They paid a huge price for their success….but man oh man, they were a force in hard 70’s rock.

Zeppelin and Floyd are my two favorite bands! Time to do a live reaction to Zeppelin so you can experience the whole vibe. Incredible live band. Their concerts were often 3 hours or more…with lots of improvisation and looong, inventive guitar snd keyboard solos If you want to stick with a song you’ve heard, then watch Stairway from MSG 1973 ( That’s Madison Square Garden….you’ll be seeing that allot). If you don’t mind hearing a song live the first time, then watch either Whole Lotta Love or Black Dog from MSG 1973. This is an iconic concert as you might have guessed. It was made into a movie called The Song Renains The Same

The song is from their first album. Hearing this music in the 80s blew away anything anyone was doing at the time but the music scene had changed. Seeing these guys come out in 69 must have felt like they were from another planet. 4 phenomenal artists that clicked so well.

Always a pleasure to see someone else near my age or younger discovering these magical pieces of art. I heard some of this music through my father as he'd been a fan of these groups when he was a teenager. Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Who, (Emerson, Lake, and Palmer), and Yes. It was through these that I found music I love and could share with my father, like my favorite underappreciated prog-rock band, Camel. It's not just the complexity of the music, the unique time signatures; there's a soul to this music. You know there's just something to it when it touches you in a way that only a sunrise had before. Subbed and looking forward to more. Hopefully you'll come around to Camel eventually as I really love their music despite not reaching the same commercial success as Yes or King Crimson. I recommend "Song Within A Song" as a first introduction to the music of Camel.

I had their second album when I was 14, 60 years ago. My dad wouldn't let me play it though because "it was the devil's music". That;s how wildly innovative and new their sound was. It was really shocking for the late 60's. My favorites are LEMON SONG, WHEN THE LEVEE BREAKS, BLACK DOG and ROCK AND ROLL. Now that you're in the rabbit hole, enjoy the trip.

You’re a kick, Hector. Yeah, Robert Plant, the vocalist , was sex on a stick when he was young. Considered one of the greatest frontmen in Rock history….confidence, charisma, swagger up the yin-yang. And a voice…at least for the first 4 years of the band that was unmatched. He did some damage to his vocal chords in ‘72 or so, but was still a great singer and has had a solo career from 1982 until today. Still tours lives in the West Midlands where he was born

Ah those hazy days of getting out of it and blasting Zeppelin out of the stereo. Their debut is one of my favourite albums and although there maybe better songs on others, the first had the foundations for what was to come. Check out 'I can't quit you baby' you don't have to make a video but just to listen to. It's so good and one of the clearest indicators of that blues influence. Funny my head always goes straight into 'how many more times' when this song ends, trippy dude.

Led Zeppelin were predominantly a blues band, at least that's where their roots were, although they took their music to other places. So tick this one as another part of your 'Blues' assimilation. Try also some Fleetwood Mac; not the famous 'Rumours' stuff of the 80s & 90s, but right back to the beginning in the mid 60s with Peter Green. Try 'The Green Manalishi [ with the two pronged crown ]', or Madge #1 from 'The Vaudeville Years 1968-70'.

Two Zeppelin recommendations would be 'In the Light' and maybe 'Moby Dick' live with Video of Bonham on the drums!!! 🔥

When these were recorded, generally it was onto 4 or at most 8 track tapes, overdubbed using multiple recorders, edited by chopping tape & sticking together with sellotape, then mechanically cutting the groove into a wax disc, to press out vinyl discs down the road. Whatever they put onto disc had to matter, & deserve its place. Today, there are 64 & 128 track, digital desks that can cut, edit, correct and overdub at the touch of a button.

From their first album. Robert Plant (singer) was about 19 or 20 when this came out. Jimmy Page, formerly of The Yardbirds, on guitar. John (Bonzo) Bonham on drums. John Paul Jones on keys/synths, bass and other instruments. There is a killer live version from Madison Square Garden, 1973 you should check out. btw, many hip hop artists have "sampled" LZ's riffs. Keep up the good work, Mark!

I expected you to light up a cigarette after that reaction. I love to see people rediscovering and really getting the muic from this era. I hope you're open to branching out from Pink Floys and Led Zeppelin -- they are the best, but there's a lot out there that's pretty damn good, too.

I think it's safe to say you're well on your way down the rabbit hole. You've reacted to some great bands so far and there are so many more to discover. As far as another Zepplin song, I would suggest The Girl I Love or Traveling Riverside Blues. Zepplin was heavily influenced by the blues and those songs really show that.

The lead singer of Led Zeppelin is Robert Plant. Led Zeppelin's first album release was in January of 1969, when Plant was 20; the band dissolved in December of 1980, releasing Robert Plant to a solo career. You would do well to follow his musical arc. -"Addicted to Love" 1986 -"Gone Gone Gone (Done Moved On)" 2007 The last thing Robert Plant recorded was a concert in June of 2022.

You're my new favorite person. Hip hop used to be awesome; I'm from it's birthplace, the Bronx. Led Zeppelin ruled the 70's. Most brilliant band EVER. THE GOATS. Every member, talented beyond belief. Most complicated time signatures. A lesser band would devolve into chaos. Dig in.

When yoiu hear it for the first time like you are Zeppelin's kind of like strobe lights to an epileptic. It just rips your mind open and fucks with it till you get it. that's pretty much what happened to us hearing those songs when originally released, esp while on hash or sunshine.

And they were really young when they played this, Robert Plant the Singer was 20. Also, there were only four people in the band making all those sounds. No one was using some computer pre-recorded stuff in mixing it in. They were playing it in real time.

There are much longer versions available, including live versions. Try the readily available version on the album " The Song remains the same " Just a mere half hour long ..... It was one of the ones they used to use for extended, improvised jams. You also get Jimmy Page playing a Les Paul guitar with a violin bow, & a panning/flanging box, and Bonzo at full chat. But, never forget John Paul Jones underneath on the bass, keeping the foundations solid. They were 4 musicians, & never brought on extra players to the stage.

Really enjoying your Led Zeppelin reactions. Very real and visceral. No band before or after them could touch their magic, that's for sure. Dazed and Confused is from their debut album (recorded in 1968, dropped in early 1969). The guys were pretty young and clearly incredibly gifted. Jimmy Page - guitarist, band founder, genius producer - age 24 Robert Plant - vocals/harmonica - had just turned 20 John Paul Jones - bass/keys/multi instrumentalist - age 22 John Bonham - drums - age 20 I was thinking about which songs I would recommend you give a listen but the list would be an extremely long one. If you're interested in doing a deep dive into Zeppelin's music, maybe just start at the beginning with album 1 and keep on going? I think you'd be hard put to find a Zeppelin song you won't like, you'd learn just how creative and versatile they were, and you'd have a chance to hear their progression/evolution through their 12 years together as a band. Edit: Just an idea. Thanks.

Robert Plant was the main lyricist of the band after the first two albums. He wrote the lyrics to Stairway. HE was the Tolkien freak. Also Welsh, English history and lore…also Norse mythology. A smart dude and well-read (as was Page) in addition to his physical attributes…which were …… widely appreciated 😁
