Leaving Kattegat (Vikings)
15 min Long VIkings Song...
Lyrics(old Nurse):
Lyrics:
Hafs létum vér hesta
hlýr stinn á brim renna,
meðan á bjartar brynjur
blóði dreif um síður;
ylgr gein, arnar, mönnum,
eyddist gráðr, of svíra,
harðmeldr gátum heiðan
hveðnu, blóði roðna.
Vestr fór ek of ver,
en ek Viðris ber
munstrandar mar,
Svá 's mitt of far;
drók eik á flot
við ísabrot,
hlóðk mærðar hlut
míns knarrar skut."
Heilir hildar til, heilir hildi frá,
Koma þeir heilir hvaðan
Translation:
We let the strong cheek
of the horses of the sea
run to the waves, the sides of
our bright mail splattered with blood.
The she-wolf feasted, the hunger
of the eagles was sated on the
blood from men’s reddened necks,
while we seized the hard meal of the Fish’s land.
By sun and moon
I journeyed west,
My sea-borne tune
From Odin's breast
My sing-ship packed
With poet's art:
It's word-keel cracked
The frozen heart.
safe into battle,
safe out of battle,
and safe return from the strife.

. At sea let we horses be warm stone-surf runners . While in brightened armor, bloody spreads 'round chapters. Eagles dine on goats, on men, destroyed glades and too swine. Hard-hearted going here from, heaving, bloody red on. West fared I too far, but I Viðris bore. Mouth-beaches mar, so's mine too far. Crowd-oak afloat with ice a-broke. Sound-measured earn, my creaking stern. Wholly battle to, wholly battles from. Come they wholly, there from. (a poetic translation)

Fuck the endless march of time moving us towards a frail old age and death, give me a glorious death upon a battlefield to be summoned by the Valkyries to our All father odins hall to feast, drink and share stories of battle until ragnorak. Combat veteran LCPL 2/14 Lighthorse QLD MTD INF. One day brothers we will meet in Valhalla if the gods will it. Fuck this world modern of the weak, my ancestors are conquerors and how I wish to sail to distant shores.

probably icelandic since old norse is a dead language and people don't know how to pronunciate it properly (same thing with latin) and there's also the fact that among all norse languages icelanic is the closest one to Old Norse, but who knows, maybe I'm wrong, it was only a guess

Latin is very accurate and hasn't died off since it's inception and is still spoken widely to this day. There are still Latin masses and 3/4 of the worlds romantic languages (French, Italian, and Spanish) are based off of it.
@JVandthebrotherhood
7 жыл бұрын
Nope, it's a dead language. And if the existence of modern romantic languages contributes to your argument that latin is not a dead language then proto-germanic is not dead since we have lots of modern languages based off of it. Actually the example you gave about daughter languanges of latin existing today, only proves that latin is, indeed, dead.
@37Slug
7 жыл бұрын
I'll agree on the fact that daughter languages do not make it a relevant language(or even commonly used on a daily basis....anywhere except the Vatican). However since it is used in naming conventions all over science, botany for instance, makes it far from dead. Binomial nomenclature is a wonderful thing. :)
