I am very very attached to the whole ac franchise, but THIS game is the one I'm most attached to I have many good memories playing this game after I got home from school on a Friday night and played till the morning. Possibly my favorite memory with this game is when me and my friends found a white whale for the first time and it took us a solid three hours to get it down but when we finally did we all jumped out of our seats and started cheering (those were the good ol' days)

Ubisoft never got bad. They were getting more creative and brought out the most of their franchises in the last decades. But the business part of Ubisoft did so many wrong steps, that everybody is shitting on Ubisoft games eventhough they are one of the most creative, innovative and well crafted games in the industry. They are the reason why some masterpieces became just a mess, because they forced their devs to rush the games. They are the reason why microtransactions exists, in games that are damn good and dont deserved to follow the same trend of EA's games. They are the reason why everybody hates Ubisoft eventhough they brought way better titles to the table than the ones that everybody praises, like: FarCry 2 & 3, AC 2 Trilogy...and so on. Valhalla is a f*cking masterpiece. From a world building, game structure, Story, gameplay and overall disign perspective. But I cant appreciate how good this game actually is, because everybody is just hating on it & telling me, that the game that is blowing me away so much, is just pure garbage. With arguments that are just not true, just because they dont even try to enjoy that game and try to take it seriusly. If u go with the typical "well, guess Iam playing a Ubisoft game now, lets see what they maybe do to impress me" kind of view in the game, then its no wonder that u will not enjoy ur time and get the greatness of this game. If I would have only looked at the flaws that the Witcher 3 had, I would never enjoyed it at all. Because its a pretty basic game, that looks kinda pretty but atleast has some good storys to tell, even in sidemissions. But is also still bagged with the typical openworld stuff that u can find in every other openworld game. ...I bet u have never heared such a statement over this game. Because its an unfair way to review this game & how and what it tries to achieve. And this is sadly the way people tread Ubisoft games these days, eventhough they become better than the older games, but also better than most of the top tier games that are out there. And Valhalla just set new bars for RPGs in some ways, but I gues almost nobody will appreciate that. Thank u for ur time if u tried to understand what Iam saying, my english is kinda bad... And have a great day! ^^

@@AMT_AllMyThoughts Respect your opinion man and hell, I actually like Valhalla and I totally agree with you on Ubisoft’s creative aspects of such an RPG but that’s the thing, it’s an RPG, as awesome as the game is, it’s not assassins creed, it’s not templars vs assassins or abstergo’s war in the modern days, IMO it should have been called for honor because it is pretty good and the concept of its gameplay is absolutely amazing but it is not the assassins creed we thrived for years ago, and it is successful in its RPG genre but not as an assassins creed game, hell I’d say I want unity because that’s how much I miss the old assassins creed games, fighting wars against the wrong side, epic plot twists and sets of events (ac rogue), obviously the huge man o war battles and the classic stealth gameplay and lastly, a beautiful story set in the 16th century at least since we have been having their origin prequel games for the past 5 years and the start with origin was good but now it’s just boring and we seem to slowly draw away from the creed perspective of the franchise and like i said as good it is, it’s not assassins creed. Hope you understood what I mean although I may not have been able to express it as clearly but yeah that’s sums up my opinion of valhalla

For those who do not know: In olden times there were no clocks or timers and if something like hoisting a sail involved many of the crew, there needed to be a method of timing their actions so it would all happen together on time. The result was the Sea Shanty, a rhymed song that was simple to learn and all could sing in time together. Thus everyone knew when to do his part, pulling on a rope, raising the anchor, preparing the cannons to fire, or even when to get in line for a meal. These old sea shanties are the remains of that simple but beautiful system. Enjoy them. R!

Reminds me of rice planting songs in certain parts of Asia like Japan, Vietnam, and Philippines. The job itself was considered to be back breaking and hard to the point that farmers and farmhand would constantly complain during the work. Singing in unison was used in order to distract them during their work.

I'm replaying it now, actually. Been a couple years. Man, what a sorry state this franchise is in now. I miss the good old days with Altair and Ezio and Edward. 3 could've been better, but I liked it a lot more than everything from Origin on. They just didn't feel like Assassin's Creed games to me. And now there's the trainwreck that will be Infinite. But the good ones will always be out there and we'll always have the memories of the first time we solved an Assassin's tomb, the first time we set foot on the Jackdaw, our time with Desmond, that fucking map puzzle...good times.

The melancholy of this shanty represents perfectly how the game made me feel at the end: both somewhat happy for experiencing such a great game, but also sad about leaving it behind and the great characters in it. Probably a bit how Edward felt happy uniting with his daughter at the end, but sad about how many good friends he left behind hi in the Caribbean, the majority of which dying seeking a dream none were able to truly grasp. Black Flag for me was the peak of the franchise. The games afterwards never reached the same level.

From a sailor (me): This is a quite an accurate portrayal of how sailors view their job as there's a love/hate relationship with sailing. On one hand there's the beauty of being at sea and travelling to new places but on the other hand theres a disdain for the long stints at sea. the bad food and the sadness of leaving loved ones behind. it's an old song but still rings true for those at sea.

It's an alternate lyric. Instead of Johnny being told to go because it's already done he's being pushed to leave because the voyage is long and hard and there's a life waiting for him back home. Instead of it already being graduation at school he's being encouraged to graduate early and move on with his life rather than going back for a couple more years before moving on. Because the voyage is long and the winds don't blow he should get out while he can--take his pay, and go--don't re-up. It still makes sense, but instead of it being about leaving a boat at the completion of the journey it's about closing a chapter of his life so he can have one.

It's hard to lose someone special to you. Especially if there is nothing in logic that says she loved you back. Others may say it is foolish to cry over the passing of a ship, but they are the fools for they do not understand what she has done for us. She has been battered, bruised, and set ablaze. She's carried many a man, and cargo that no man can lift alone. She has fought with us, killed with us, save with us, and freed with us. She has guided us through storm and hardship. And she has always stayed afloat for us, kept us safe and at home while rocking us to sleep at night. Holding us together like an angelic mother with all her crew her children of the wind and sea. But now she has begun to rot, and asks softly to be put to rest. And the next time someone tries to tell us that our beloved ship cannot love us back, think back on all that she's done for us and you will see that she loved you just as dearly, and is so proud of the person you've become, even as she rests at the bottom of the sea.

It was my childhood dream to play a game in which I could commandeer a pirate ship, and then AC4 delivered just that. It was amazing. I always forget all my worries when I'm on a boat, surrounded by the sea, even if it's stormy. I never experienced what seasickness could be like. I remember watching a video of a ship caught in a storm and how amazed I was at the beauty of a marvel of human engineering withstanding and rolling over such powerful forces of nature. It's my ultimate dream to have enough money and passive income to live the boatlife before I die, no matter the many challenges of it. Anyways, I got carried away. I was playing this masterpiece for the 3rd time in 2020 (yes, that GODDAMN year), it should have been just another depressing quarantine night...but the crew started to sing "Leave Her Johnny" and I immediately felt a mix of happiness and doubt about the future in that difficult time...just like a sailor who doesn't know what kind of mystery waits for him at the end of the ocean. It will never be just a game.

I know this song was originally written about the ship. But it also heavily seems like it’s about leaving your wife/ girl, and your mates are all advocating for it. “For the voyage is done (I know this version says long, but it originally says “done”) meaning, the relationship ran its course) “and the winds don’t blow” (the love/ thrill is gone)

AC3 was massively underlooked and underrated. I never played the originals with Ezio and Altaire but I hold AC3 and AC4 very close to my heart. AC3 had quite a few flaws but the experience and characters around it was fantastic. I wish I could go back to those years. I might've been very young, innocent, and ignorant but I would cherish spending times with my brothers playing though games like these when we didn't have a care in the world. Even though I was severely under the rated age for assassin's creed I loved every second of it. We always look forward to growing up in childhood and now as I look back at my childhood I realize why people told me to enjoy being a child because you'll never get those times back. Very good memories. I'll always cherish the memories I had with my brothers in childhood and the chances my parents let me have by allowing me to play these games.
