Leather Duffel Bag Build | ASMR

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This week is another leather project. I made this duffle bag for my brother as a Christmas present. The final dimensions are 12x12x24". It's made of two main body parts, with a side pocket and large handles.
If you have any questions on this build, leave them in the comments below.

A saddle stitch will save you time, effort, and prove to last longer than the single stitch you are doing. Its also fairly easy to learn and apply to the same hole layout you are already using.

Thanks for the video. I really love your design and the type of leather you chose for the project. May I ask: how would you incorporate an inlay in this bag? Do you have any thoughts on that? Or maybe a video? Thank you and greetings from Germany. Marco

Hi. Nice video. What leather specifically did you use? I know it is from Springfiled Leather store.

I bought one and love it, though I had to oil it as soon as I received it because it came folded up.

What weight and temper is this leather? What tannery?

Wonderful! I'm trying to convince myself that I don't NEED to make a bag for my trip this month.... but if it's that straightforward, maybe I could. I had to laugh though; one of the videos I watched immediately before this specified that one must be sure to leave the zipper open while stitching, or else it will be difficult to open and turn inside out.🙃 Point illustrated.

Haha yes, I was definitely not paying attention! Sometimes you just zone out! I recommend making one. This took about 16 total hours of work, so not a short time. But completely worth it.

I’ve never done it I’m 16 I do everything myself for instance I own several engines I’m a mechanic certified I’m a welder certified as well Ive got a lot of certifications lol I own a lot of tools a anvil hundreds of screwdrivers when a hammer brakes a make a handle from scratch out of wood I don’t buy one i would would suggest getting some braided fishing line it’s as thin as thread and will hold 60 pounds I put fishing line in a regular singer sewing machine that holds 80 pounds before it breaks it is indestructible compared to thread and actually cheaper than most thread and comes in more colors than you would imagine

Absolutely awesome, my life goal to be able to make bags like this, what's the best way I can get started in leathercraft? Is there a go-to resource to learn?

There are some great KZreadrs that explain tools, like Little King Goods, Corter Leather, and Whit + Parker Leatherwork. For me, I just looked at how bags or wallets or whatever are constructed, and mimicked that to understand the process. After that, you change things to make a product more useful.

I don't have plans for this unfortunately, but it's something I should probably do. But most of the work I do is off the top of my head, measuring as I go. I don't really go in with a plan, except for the main body sizes as you saw in the video. I can tell you those sheets of paper were 12x48" and 24x36", to give you a bag that's 12x12x24". The body straps were then 2x40", and the handles were however long you'd like them to be.

Just eyeballing it here but looks like 4-5oz medium tempered oil-tanned leather. Any thicker or firmer and turned seam construction becomes awfully tough

Why nobody sews lining inside these leather bags? This doesn't seem very practical.
