Learning to use an Alec Steele 2 x 72 Inch Belt Grinder (This is not a review)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I've never used a grinder like this more than a few hours over the last four or so years, and didn't have a garage to use one. I have to say, it's spectacular, but its legit not a review, I will review it in a year. I imagine one grinder is like another once you hit a certain quality level, your personal experience and how you use it becomes the metric for what you would want improved potentially. Anyway.
So here's a feature length movie. And the first take was the take for the voice over. I didn't have a second one in me. I didn't have fancy text editing in me. But what I hope anyone that watches any of this gets out of it is, make stuff. Make anything you want to make if it makes you happy. (Even if it's a 90 minute long video statistically 50 people will click on, or fewer)
The lessons learned from this are
1: An angle grinder would speed this up but a hacksaw is acceptable.
2: Grinding is more delicate than it looks, feel is important, a jig would have helped me learn this while being consistent.
3: The biggest factor in buying a grinder is just get one, make one, and make sure it works right.
4: If you have to choose between doing it safely or doing it quickly, always choose safely.
5: Use push sticks to help you move around small material into the grinder
6: You're going to have to do this all twice, three, four, five times, going up the grits (Even though all that is shown is the rough 36 grit grind)
7: Long term learn... I probably should have heat treated the profile grinds for the thickness these are. A long term lesson learned.
8: Short term learn, at least I didn't wreck the heat treat grinding without experience
My intention is to finish these knives one by one now that I have a base for them. I will make shorter videos for each of them. Something to represent them from start to finish.
I will make another learning video about heat treating, but lets be honest, I have years before I learn enough to be effective at it.
I thank you for getting this far. I appreciate you, be you friend or stranger, some day I'll sell things or maybe even be useful as an asset to inspire people to make their own things, and do what I'm doing better faster.
No one has ever paid me to talk about anything, unsurprisingly. But it doesn't go without saying.
