This is our second day out skateboarding. A couple days ago we practiced the basics like pushing, pivoting, and kick turns at a skate park.
Today our goal is to get more comfortable on the skateboard, we go for a cruise on the trails around Whistler village. This is great terrain for beginners like us: gentle slopes, amazing views and no cars. There are some sections where it gets steep. So if your not sure how steep or long a hill is, always check before skating down it.
At this stage, being the second proper day skateboarding for us, any and all time spent riding is useful to help gain experience. So we are pretty happy just skating around, sometime going up hills, sometimes down and a lot of flat windy sections.
Skateboarding like a lot of sports can be tough, and having a community is a great way to stay interested. If you are learning like us, leave a comment about your skateboarding experience so far. Whats your best skating moment?
Thanks for watching and see you in the next skateboard video: FIRST OLLIE ATTEMPT!
Coming up at the end of this month: GLACIER SNOWBOARDING at High Cascade, Oregon

Same. I was going down a big hill on my penny. It was to fast, then wobbles and there was no way to stop. So I flew onto my face and then rolled down. I had a small concussion and I have scars on my knuckles, wrist, thumbs, shoulder and knee. Weirdly, no scars on my face. Now I only go down on very small hills.

You need to carve back and forth going down a steep hill to avoid speed wobbles. It helps you control your speed and also compresses the bushings as you turn, helping to stop the wobbles.

Do leanturns if you're fast and do kickturns if you're slow and have less space to turn. I mostly use leanturns but getting comfortable with kickturns will help you becoming more comfortable with ollies, (pop-)shuvits reverts, powerslides and manuals.

It's called carving LOL
Look out for pebbles dude! That view behind you tho.. So lucky.
During my off season I long board. It kills me watching you guys go through these awesome trails on skateboards when you'd have so much more fun on long boards. they're meant for this kind of stuff. Keep it up :D
This is good for progression and confidence Kevin, when I first started riding I did some cruise runs to gain confidence!!! Keep the great videos coming!!!!!!
The thing about hills is it seems like its very gentle and not that bad but on the skateboard, it gets crazy fast especially if its a long but gentle slope, the speed adds up so fast
The hill reminded me of when I was a kid I was riding my bike down a steep hill and my front tire started wobbling like crazy and eventually turned sideways flinging me off the board and causing me to bounce my head off the concrete and slide across the road. Luckily I had a helmet on. I'm now afraid of hills lol
Solid effort so far boys! A few tips. 1. You need a long board for hills. What you are doing is like taking a short park board to the deep Pow that's why you are getting speed wobbles. 2. When you push you don't need to transfer your weight to the pushing foot. Keep the weight on your deck foot and just use your toes and ball of foot to push. 3. Just like snowboarding wear a helmet, concrete is harder than trees and snow. 4. Relax a bit. You're both still too rigid (but once you get balanced that will help) 5. Less weight on your heels, even when flat footed on the deck. Everything is about pivoting so think ball on the foot. 6. Keep it up! Awesome job!
I think scenary like that is just beautiful. When it is covered in white for the winter and thenit melts, letting the plants grow and turn green, its just great
U guys are so inspirational! You are the reason I started shredding
I took a fall on a hill I now call flat after a month of skating. It made me a bit scared when I went down fast. But now I find it laughable I couldn't do that hill before. It feels great to tackle those challenge.
Nice, I've never been too great at cruising on my skateboard. Watching you guys struggle gives me hope. I'm going to try skating more this summer. I already miss snowboarding season so hard.
You guys are doing the right thing learning the basics first, and watching Braille Skateboarding.

Awesome video man keep it up!
Hey guys, love your snowboarding videos. I like that you guys are diving into skating as an activity for the summer, however, as a skater, I have to say you guys should get some better boards; those look like some cheap Walmart brand boards. Generally frowned upon in the skateboarding community. Also, if you're going to be going down hills like that, you definitely want to tighten those trucks or (as some others have mentioned) maybe consider a longboard/cruiser board. Just some suggestions since cement is a lot less forgiving than the snow! ;) Cheers

They looks like good completes and they are ok for beginnig. I'd just replace the parts part by part later. For the deck you can go for any serious brand they makes 7-ply constructions. I rode JART, Welcome, Deathwish, Real and Magenta. For the trucks go for Thunder, independent, Theeve, Venture, Mini Logo, Krux or Tensor. I skated Thunder and Theeve. The most recommended Wheels are Spirfire, Bones, Autobahn and Ricta. I like Spitfire the most. The most skaters skates Bones Reds Bearings, I like Seismic bearings too.

Blank decks costs like 20$ and they are the same quality a branded brands, just without graphic. Most decks are made in the same factory, e.g. from generator. Each piece of maple is different. In a cold environment wood grows slower and it gets denser and heavier, which makes a very good deck. But sometimes the grain is odd and board would break easier. Also the used glue and pressing time makes a difference. Use shockpads (even 1/24" helps) and land onto the bolts to avoid breaking your deck.

Tighten the bushings not the trucks.

Very cool vid ! Landscapes are awesome :)
love the skateboard video, keep it up!
This is great stuff - been catching up on all your snowboard vids. as I switched over from skis this past season where I went a fair bit and made a lot of progress. But as I currently live in the Southern USA, figured I better get something to "practice" on in the off season, so I went and bought a longboard (I'm not as much into the tricks as just the cruising down the hills..) so hoping I can use this in the warmer months. although I can't wait to hit Mammoth Mountain once more in June on the Snowboard and Chile in August/September. But other than that, guess I will out there learning along with you. I can't get quite used to foot placement and moving your feet around on the board just yet. I prefer having my feet clamped into the snowboard!
Cool stuff. Getting back into skating after many years. I remember the first time going down a hill my friend dared me to ride, half way down there were roots growing under the pavement once I hit them I had terrifying speed wobble I was going so fast I had no choice but ride it out until the hill went back uphill. Somehow I lived and didn’t crash. Equipment makes a big difference too.
Nice series!! I feel like its important to learn how to footbrake, especially the foot slide since that'll work on higher speeds without throwing off your balance!

Wear helmets, hold your board on the trucks and rip it against your clothes and make holes into your shoes too. And the coolest way to push is mongo xD No serius, if helmets helps you overcoming injury fears just wear them, If you're just cruising and not a technical skater pushing mongo is ok and also malgrabbing is ok if you like to grab your board on the trucks, but other peoples will think you're posers, but don't care what they think. That's the best way to develop your own style and commit. Skating is noisy and you'll fall a lot and peoples will look at you. But you and me have to overcome that fear and just concentrate on skating. After a while peoples will lose interesting spectating you I think.

I love the light up wheels haha :)
I was out with a friend who has a skateboard yesterday and I had a go. Barely made it on flat ground. I was in flipflops which probably didn't do me any favours. It was fun so im Looking into it
Longboard would be awsome! For cruising and later maybe slideing and/or freestyle.
Might have to learn to skate this summer!
Keep it up boys. Try linking turns while going down hills. It will mitigate the wobble.

Such a beautiful place man
Where were you here? This landscape looks so beautiful and peaceful to cruise here.
Love your channel and I think it's awesome that you guys are skating too. If I could give you a couple words of advice, it'd be to loosen up. Both of you seem really stiff on your boards. Loosen your hips, knees and ankles more. And remember that you're not strapped into a snowboard. You can be a little lighter on your feet and move them around the board. Find a comfortable stance for your front foot while pushing. Keep on practicing!
Never knew this video existed. Sick. Kev should cruise with some oj super juice minis

so i just picked up skateboarding again after 10 years. my first day i went down a big hill and my board started wobbling and i scrapped up really bad lol. i got humbled really quick
It might be a good idea now that you're starting to learn to also learn switch riding. It'll really help and you start learning tricks and it's do much easier to learn agents for from the beginning.
I'm starting too but number thing you gotta relax so little stiff
You came a long way from the first video good job!
I love these
Get some shark wheels or just softer wheels in general and put them on your board or even buy a whole new cruiser board so you can ride rougher terrain without the fear of pebbles or as much speed wobble. Also you do t have to tighten the trucks to stop the wobble but if you feel more comfortable with tighter trucks then do
SnowboardProCamp you should try freebord (closest thing to snowboarding for the summer).
irrelevant, but you guys have such beautiful views where you are with all the large trees, mountains, and lakes. it’s super pretty, nothing like where i live.
I love cruising ... but down hill is such a challenge. I've gotten wrecked a few times lol. I just walk down hill now.
What's the name of the paved trail you guys were skating at? Looks like a really nice spot to cruise around indeed
Cruising on skate wheels makes you feel the whole road doesn't it? I stuck 70mm 78A Gels on my 31 inch skateboard for cruising and stuck 90mm 78A flywheel gels on my 50 inch longboard very smooth no vibration ride during the downtime before the resorts kick back open in November.
continue making this videos pls
Gotta lean forward on those hills man
Hi Kevin, I´m coming to Canada for a "Work and Travel" and planning to work as a snowboard coach in Whistler next season. Can you give me any advice at which snowboardschool I could apply for a job?
Screw bindings on your skateboard deck and rock the mountains like Shonduras has done it xD might be very hard because a skateboard don't forgives you any wrong movement, it has almost no flex and the concave makes it very hard to controll.
