This is our second day out skateboarding. A couple days ago we practiced the basics like pushing, pivoting, and kick turns at a skate park.
Today our goal is to get more comfortable on the skateboard, we go for a cruise on the trails around Whistler village. This is great terrain for beginners like us: gentle slopes, amazing views and no cars. There are some sections where it gets steep. So if your not sure how steep or long a hill is, always check before skating down it.
At this stage, being the second proper day skateboarding for us, any and all time spent riding is useful to help gain experience. So we are pretty happy just skating around, sometime going up hills, sometimes down and a lot of flat windy sections.
Skateboarding like a lot of sports can be tough, and having a community is a great way to stay interested. If you are learning like us, leave a comment about your skateboarding experience so far. Whats your best skating moment?
Thanks for watching and see you in the next skateboard video: FIRST OLLIE ATTEMPT!
Coming up at the end of this month: GLACIER SNOWBOARDING at High Cascade, Oregon
Check out BRAILLE Skateboarding:

The hill reminded me of when I was a kid I was riding my bike down a steep hill and my front tire started wobbling like crazy and eventually turned sideways flinging me off the board and causing me to bounce my head off the concrete and slide across the road. Luckily I had a helmet on. I'm now afraid of hills lol

Solid effort so far boys! A few tips. 1. You need a long board for hills. What you are doing is like taking a short park board to the deep Pow that's why you are getting speed wobbles. 2. When you push you don't need to transfer your weight to the pushing foot. Keep the weight on your deck foot and just use your toes and ball of foot to push. 3. Just like snowboarding wear a helmet, concrete is harder than trees and snow. 4. Relax a bit. You're both still too rigid (but once you get balanced that will help) 5. Less weight on your heels, even when flat footed on the deck. Everything is about pivoting so think ball on the foot. 6. Keep it up! Awesome job!

Hey guys, love your snowboarding videos. I like that you guys are diving into skating as an activity for the summer, however, as a skater, I have to say you guys should get some better boards; those look like some cheap Walmart brand boards. Generally frowned upon in the skateboarding community. Also, if you're going to be going down hills like that, you definitely want to tighten those trucks or (as some others have mentioned) maybe consider a longboard/cruiser board. Just some suggestions since cement is a lot less forgiving than the snow! ;) Cheers

They looks like good completes and they are ok for beginnig. I'd just replace the parts part by part later. For the deck you can go for any serious brand they makes 7-ply constructions. I rode JART, Welcome, Deathwish, Real and Magenta. For the trucks go for Thunder, independent, Theeve, Venture, Mini Logo, Krux or Tensor. I skated Thunder and Theeve. The most recommended Wheels are Spirfire, Bones, Autobahn and Ricta. I like Spitfire the most. The most skaters skates Bones Reds Bearings, I like Seismic bearings too.

Blank decks costs like 20$ and they are the same quality a branded brands, just without graphic. Most decks are made in the same factory, e.g. from generator. Each piece of maple is different. In a cold environment wood grows slower and it gets denser and heavier, which makes a very good deck. But sometimes the grain is odd and board would break easier. Also the used glue and pressing time makes a difference. Use shockpads (even 1/24" helps) and land onto the bolts to avoid breaking your deck.

This is great stuff - been catching up on all your snowboard vids. as I switched over from skis this past season where I went a fair bit and made a lot of progress. But as I currently live in the Southern USA, figured I better get something to "practice" on in the off season, so I went and bought a longboard (I'm not as much into the tricks as just the cruising down the hills..) so hoping I can use this in the warmer months. although I can't wait to hit Mammoth Mountain once more in June on the Snowboard and Chile in August/September. But other than that, guess I will out there learning along with you. I can't get quite used to foot placement and moving your feet around on the board just yet. I prefer having my feet clamped into the snowboard!

Cool stuff. Getting back into skating after many years. I remember the first time going down a hill my friend dared me to ride, half way down there were roots growing under the pavement once I hit them I had terrifying speed wobble I was going so fast I had no choice but ride it out until the hill went back uphill. Somehow I lived and didn’t crash. Equipment makes a big difference too.

Wear helmets, hold your board on the trucks and rip it against your clothes and make holes into your shoes too. And the coolest way to push is mongo xD No serius, if helmets helps you overcoming injury fears just wear them, If you're just cruising and not a technical skater pushing mongo is ok and also malgrabbing is ok if you like to grab your board on the trucks, but other peoples will think you're posers, but don't care what they think. That's the best way to develop your own style and commit. Skating is noisy and you'll fall a lot and peoples will look at you. But you and me have to overcome that fear and just concentrate on skating. After a while peoples will lose interesting spectating you I think.

Loosen your hips, knees and ankles more. And remember that you're not strapped into a snowboard. You can be a little lighter on your feet and move them around the board. Find a comfortable stance for your front foot while pushing. Keep on practicing!

Get some shark wheels or just softer wheels in general and put them on your board or even buy a whole new cruiser board so you can ride rougher terrain without the fear of pebbles or as much speed wobble. Also you do t have to tighten the trucks to stop the wobble but if you feel more comfortable with tighter trucks then do

Screw bindings on your skateboard deck and rock the mountains like Shonduras has done it xD might be very hard because a skateboard don't forgives you any wrong movement, it has almost no flex and the concave makes it very hard to controll.

I like my vans with fp-insoles, they are very flexible which is nice for technical skating. But for stair jumps and other high impact style I'd choose stable mid or hicut cup sneakers like DCs.

Going downhill for the first time is so scary, but it is good to get the feel of going a bit faster and standing on the board. For me at least, currently a n00b.

I live in the UK in a horrific place called Hemel Hempstead (I digress). The roads are nice and smooth but the paths aren't too good, and I'm trying longboarding to work every day but I struggle committing. I'm too scared with corners and roads and people and I spend most of my time walking. Any tips on how to build confidence with skating in public? (I'm not worried about what people think of me being a beginner, I'm just scared of crashing into people lol)

Bro you won't be able to progress at all on a Walmart board. If you wanna get into cruising and aren't bothered ab tricks I'd recommend a two bear feet TBF aztec-9 cruiser. They're pretty cheap and great to learn onm

I skate streets like that with 99a duro meter 50mm wheels. I got very sore at the beginning but after a year I got more comfortable with harder wheels as with soft wheels. But something between 78a and 92a is good for cruising.

Some actual beginners, fun and unmistakably noob, one word "Foot Braking". Hopefully I will look at heaps of videos before I go snowboarding for first time or I will be screaming "GET OUT OF THE WAY" too. Hopefully you now have a cruiser, a longboard or even a Flowboard by now which is much more like a Snowboard than the Wallmart skateboard you had. Happy carving.
