I'm learning to fly microlight aircraft at Kemble Flying Club based at Cotswold Airport. Many thanks to David Young, my instructor - book yourself a lesson today!

I've been fascinated with aviation since I was a young lad...even flying model planes and had been bought some PPL lessons in the past, but learning to fly was far too costly. Until I heard about an NPPL licence - flying Microlights are far more affordable.

I think your decision not to fly shows a maturity and good judgement that will stand you in good stead during your flying career. Well done.

Robert Payne - thanks Robert.
You did the right thing - if you’re not feeling it don’t fly - simples!
You did the right thing, Ben. There was nothing saying you had to fly that day and there was obviously something telling you that you shouldn’t. That’s nothing more than good judgment. Nice 👍 job on your landings, by the way. Your flying in general looked good both days. Thanks for sharing your videos and thanks for sharing your honesty, I think 🤔 you have the makings of a fine pilot 👨🏼✈️!

Steve Bodine - yeh that’s it, just didn’t fully fancy it! Odd!! But good experience... thanks for your comment!
Good one Ben. If that is how you feel then that is the right decision. There are too many who do not make this call. I think you are the only person I know who can have a detailed de-brief from their instructor after a solo sortie! 🙂
Everyone gets those days when they just think, "nope, not today"! :-) X-country time is interesting for the mind. Thanks for sharing once again Ben. Looking forward to when you leave the circuit.

JP Hughes - glad to know I’m not the only one JP! Thanks - I’m looking forward to mixing it up a bit now 👍
Thought it was only me that had those sort of days ! So it was reassuring . Great video . Keep them coming

Roger Birkett - absolutely not only you Roger!! Thanks mate ...wilco!
Another great video, like your editing
Great decision making Ben! :) Always trust your instinct. As my instructor always tells me, a good plan has to make way for a better plan. I am looking forward to the next video. Keep up the good work! Have a nice weekend. Cheers!

Thanks Kevin , good advice! Hopefully flying Tuesday so another video on Friday is on the cards. Aiming for one a week at the moment. Have a great weekend yourself, cheers!
Good lesson
Currently training on a C42 down at Dunkeswell, similar stage and like you I've certainly had those days where it's just not clicking. One occasion I was doing a solo circuit touch and go, didn't feel entirely comfortable in the conditions but made the mistake of taking off again for 'just one more circuit', as soon as I was airborne I regretted it. Definitely learnt the lesson that if it's not right then just stop.

James Moore - thanks for commenting James. C42 is a great aircraft and I plan to get type rated once I’ve passed. Yeh - interestingly I felt a bit like that on the Tuesday in this video. Very tempting to do more and more circuits Until you get a perfect landing!
Brother I have days like that and I am 50 and learning to fly. I have soloed once but like you waved off an opportunity because I developed a headache during the flight. Both good calls by you and me. Remember IMSAFE checklist.

edwin kania - absolutely. Thanks for sharing that Edwin!
Hi Ben, can't fault your flying or decision making - very good airmanship to make a correct decision. Just a slight nag about non-standard RT you keep calling 'turning final' just say final when on final so everyone else if clear where you are :-)

Jason R Wilkinson - hey Jason! Thanks for the comment. Slight nag is a good one! I do try to say final if I’m on final and turning if I’m between base and final, but don’t always get it right - that’s for sure!! Thanks again for watching the videos
Hi Ben, just found your channel and your videos are great. I’m currently taking my PPL and flying from Gloucester although I live 5 mins from Kemble. I had a lesson on Sunday just gone and had a bit of a bad day compared to my other lessons. Great videos bud
If it doesn't feel right, things aren't right? Human performance etc - don't go. You're a wise man. On day two, you stayed safe, in one piece, along with the aircraft - super! "I learnt about flying from that". May I ask how many hours you had done at this stage?
Right descision. Never listen to the little devil on your shoulder. Why do you fly QFE in the pattern?
@BenAtkinsonVideos

Simon S - thanks Simon, agree. Easier said than done but I guess we have a responsibility to in this hobby! The pattern height is 1000ft above the aerodrome on the QFE, which is much easier to look at and judge accurately than using the QNH - which id need to take 432ft (height of Kemble above sea level) off the altimeter. Once I leave the circuit and therefore the ATZ, I let the tower know I’m doing such and they’ll give me the QNH which is when I change to it.
Just caught up on all your videos. Well done on going solo! Great decision there too. We’ve got boggy runways :(

K R - thanks very much on watching them all. Hopefully you got something out of them. Oh no! Fingers crossed they dry out soon
Had you many hours at this time Ben?
Just out of interest when did you do your exams...before, after, or during flight training?
Good decision not to fly , I did the same thing as I had some personal distractions going through my mind at the time I was offered first solo , right decision as it turned out and went solo on my next lesson
