Learning To Eat Like A Local In Malaysia
We met up with a local Malaysian man called Syed and he showed us how to eat the Malaysian way! Learning to eat like a local in Malaysia is not an easy task and takes some practice, but to do so he took us to try some real Malaysian food in the local area of Kuala Lumpur including the authentic patin tempoyak (catfish in fermented durian sauce). It was our first time trying this Malaysian dish and we were pretty excited to try something weirder and more off the beaten path than what most foreigners try when in Malaysia.

Man, Mario's hand eating technique is really on point. He even uses his thumb to push the food from the fingers into the mouth.

Rimbun Dahan was founded and maintained by a famous architect and his family. They offer placements for artists to live and work there for a certain period of time to support the arts. They also dismantled two different types of traditional-style houses from different states, moved and reconstructed the houses on the Rimbun Dahan premises. At least that’s what I was told when I went there many years ago. Amazing place, really loved my visit

Pandan leaves are also know as Asian vanilla. Yes Worcestershire sauce was created from Asian recipes. So the local version in Malaysia is much older than the English version. So yes very likely England stole it from Malaysia 🤣

Lot of dish can be a local special, like ikan patin masak tempoyak (catfish with fermented durian) is a Pahang signature dish because of the ingredient. We can say a top quality for that specific fish in that dish can be acquire from Pahang. Different state with different signature dish because of best-local ingredient. We can found it elsewhere but it hardly can be the best if we compare to the original place.

Not surprised that foreigner will like tempoyak. Me born and raised in Malaysia don't really like durian but i can go on second plate of rice with tempoyak. I also like soupy warm dessert added durian, northern Malaysian called it serawa durian!

It's not at all like we imagined it would be, durian can be so overwhelming, even smell alone, but this dish was on another level! Really glad we tried this.
I'm surprised that that was Mario's first time eating with hand and he's nailed it!
You cant go wrong if u're with a good local tour guide right. From art gallery to patin tempoyak, who would've thought right.
