Learning To Crochet Without Fingers * 6 Finger Amputations Due To Raynauds

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Today I'm learning to crochet without fingers on my right hand. I've had 6 finger amputations due to Raynaud's. I still have a strong desire to crochet so I must figure out how to use straps to crochet.
Thank you for watching. I appreciate you all.

    I am so impressed by your determination to continue a hobby. There are so many people that wouldn't bear to have to relearn how to do something like this. And for you to sit there and try MULTIPLE methods and not lose determination is so awesome! This was exceptionally educational, thank you for posting!

    Mole skin can be placed on your skin to provide a layer of protection from irritations. Also I think you need a double strap one around the hand and the other around your wrist to keep it secured on your hand. So happy that you are still trying to make things work and not letting things stop you from doing what you love! Lots of luck!

    Or duoderm if she has access to it. It’s basically a sticky (on one side) dressing that is like a second layer of skin. I use it on my patients who have NG tubes to prevent irritation from the tube rubbing against their face.

    I’m 27 and I’ve started to have issues with my 3 end fingers on both hands and I gets my down when it starts to hurt when doing things like crocheting. But watching you try push yourself to try these products and even if it’s uncomfortable so you start doing something you love again has moved me. Your motivation encourages me to see that persistence is key and thank you having the strength it took to make this video. I pray you find the perfect thing you need to get back to doing the things you love ❤️

    If you don’t already know what it is, it sounds like carpal tunnel . . . carpal tunnel surgery was the best thing I ever did for myself.

  • @splats9671

    @splats9671

    Жыл бұрын

    + 1 This sounds like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome which is a painful medical condition that leads to numbness, swelling and/or pain in the fingers you specified. It develops when your hands & wrists are frequently subjected to reperetive motions (Crochet, knitting, frequent usage of keyboard, etc) without proper downtime breaks between. Unfortunately once its there it doesn't go away in its own iirc and surgery for relief I'd the best option.

And then you persevered and you got going really good! I was elated! You got this, you just need to retrain your brain and create new muscle memory. And of course find the best combo of straps and hooks. You got this! And I'm so freaking proud of you! I am so looking forward to seeing your new creations.

    People are really amazing at adapting and I agree she is way faster than me with my 10 fingers. Probably just due to years of practice I absolutely do not have. I taught myself earlier this year after finally finding a good left handed crotched for beginners tutorial. Now I'm able to adapt the right handed instructions after getting the basics right.

    I was thinking about this when you first announced the amputation and thought you could 3d print an artificial pinky finger that could be worn in a thin glove or perhaps attached by some other means. If you're interested I've got the equipment and I'm sure I could figure out how to model a finger. 😆

You and Big Daddy (and maybe an Angel somewhere out there) are GOING to tweak and tweak until you get this “just right”! I know you will. There’s no doubt about it at all! I was sooo happy when you tried the longer hook!!! There are so many variables that can be fine tuned JUST FOR YOU!!! I felt every tear that you were trying to hide, but was still so amazed at your double crochets, especially!! I wanted to shout to the world, “SHE’S DOING IT!! She’s crocheting!!!” We all love you so much, Kayla.

    Hi Kayla. I am so happy to see you crocheting and trying to find a good brace. You are on the right track. Like leg amputees, who put on a soft sock over their stump, maybe you need to wear a white cotton, half mitten, worn inside our so there are no seams to irritate your shin. The last thing you need is any rubbing causing an injury. Velcro closures are what is needed for easier fitting and removal. Thank God for Big Daddy’s help. Kayla, don’t get discouraged; you got this. Love, Audrey. ❤️🇨🇦🧶😍👍🙏

    So pleased to see you crocheting again! I was crocheting alongside you and we were going the same speed so once you get used to your strap you will be flying! I was wondering if it might be worth adding thin layers of masking tape (or something similar with a textured surface) to your hook handle just to increase it's girth ever so slightly to make it a snug fit to the pouch. I'm sure you and Big Daddy will find ways to keep improving it as you gain experience. We are all thinking of you, it must be so challenging learning a new way to crochet but it's fantastic to see you back. Looking forward to December's project.

    Kayla, my husband thinks you need a leather fingerless glove with a pocket to hold your different crochet hooks. All of those straps on your hand is just going to cause more issues with the rubbing on your skin. You're doing a great job. You're very inspiring! 🤗❤️🧶
