We all do it, we all vent gas 😂 Today we're talking about venting our molds.

I get asked about the moisture content of my sand. I have settled on a ratio of about 2 liters of sand and 36-42ish ml of water for my ratio. I start with sand that is dry.

Hi, You are too hard on yourself, in the first half of the video. You have taught yourself a lot by trial and error, and showing viewers your mistakes helps us out a very lot. It saves us all the time of your trials. We appreciate your efforts and learn so much from the vids you put out there. Keep up the good work. Shayne.....Australia.

In our previous house I welded up our mailbox stand and ordered a cast aluminum plaque that had our house number on both sides and bolted up into a frame I made. We have been in this new house for almost 13 years and I still have not made a decent mailbox stand but now I wonder if I should pour my own plaque. :) probably not since I have nothing to start with but it would get me started into casting. ;) All I need is a furnace, crucibles, crucible holders, frames, sand, aluminum ingots, and a 3D printer... Or just pay 100 for one. LOL

Althoug thanks to you mate, people will be able to avoid all these types of mistakes and hopefully be getting better castings. Great clear info AS USUAL. . it's funny how comfortable we get carrying a crucible around full of 700+ degree molten aluminum.. I did 12kg pour yesterday and well yeah , if any mistakes are made at that stage it's pretty much all over..... sometimes forget how dangerous this hobby is.. great work mate and keep sharing the knoledge .

Please don't take down the aluminum rod video. In my opinion, for whatever it's worth, it's important to have a record of how far we've come. I've watched all of your videos multiple times. I'm in the process of watching them all in order and making sure I've hit the like button. I pass out your channel every time someone is interested in this subject (which is a surprisingly high number in my other hobby). Don't be too hard on yourself. Hi Perry, first time that i comment on your videos, thank you very much for sharing what you have learned. Early this year, i tried this idea of poking vents with a wire, but strangely i got shrinkage around the vents, wich were filled just some millimeters, i cast 300 mm aluminium rings (50mm tall, 12mm thick), placed (poked) the vents on the upper edge. Anyway, im waiting with excitement for feeders video, next week. Also I would like to ask you, if possible, to make another extensive videos about gates, I do have some parts where I have wide gates that are always difficult to cut off the finish cast. Once again thanks and greetings from Peru!

Hello Mike. Thanks for finally commenting 😃 I'm hoping to get a new video out on Friday this week that will announce a new series I'm going to try to do. It might be just the ting you are looking for. I expect your problem with shrinkage is not because of the vents but because of the amount of metal and the feeders you may or may not have used. I just shot the first of three pours I'm going to do in the feeder video. There is pretty good shrinkage even though the part is relatively small... much smaller than your rings
