***** About Living Traditions Homestead *****
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out new videos every week! We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.

Don’t you love farm animal musical chairs? It seems like a never ending game we play 😂
I love that you stepped out and tried something new. We will often do that as well. You never know until you try. Also, every homestead and every family and every property has different needs. Kudos for the efforts! On to the next thing!
In my childhood the duck eggs were given to hens to hatch. It was funny watching those little ducklings in the pond and the mother hen running around, protesting and warning them.
In science we have no failures. We have successes in finding out what doesn't work.
I've lived on a farm my entire life and I never watch a video of yours and not learn something. I love how real you are. I am praying things go well for your dad and you both have the strength and stamina to do all that's needed
Waddlesville is so much fun to watch! Praying for Kevin’s Dad
It's a treat for me WHENEVER you post a video. Love all of Waddlesville. Thanks for sharing your world.

I always burst out laughing when I see the white ducks burst out of their coop and do the Waddlesville 50 yard dash. Very funny stuff.
How sweet! The parent geese stepping out first to check out the situation before having the babies step out! Their necks were stretched out as far as could be…🤣🤣❤❤
However often I see little babies, I still have a sharp intake of breath and go "ahhh it's a little one" as the gosling came into view in their house! I also love seeing how the family unit protects the little ones by surrounding them.
Those Polish Crested chicks are sooo fancy! ❤

How very sweet and so very cute!!! So sorry you lost some of the quail. Pretty chickens and they seem very calm. All the best!
Imagine a world where everything you tried, worked the way you planned. Where is the fun in that? Embrace the failures and have some fun. (Prayers for your dad.)
the babies are so cute!! Happy Mothers Day !! Sarah Praying for Kevin's Dad
I love watching the ducks come out of the coop and waddle off go the trough!
That is the cutest thing watching the ducks waddle out. Hugs Kevin and Sarah ❤

I just love waddlesville. The goslings are so cute.
❤Still praying for your dad a fast and pain free recovery...how are the rabbits doing...❤Praise the Lord Jesus ❤
I appreciate y'all showing the adaptation aspect of homesteading. Learning through failure is a skill I'm still working on. Watching it applied is a great help!
Happy Mother’s day Sarah! I am praying for your dad Kevin. The little goslings are too cute and I enjoy all your videos. God bless you and your family
Continued prayers for Kevin's dad and the family during this busy time. Happy Mother's Day!
Always something to do and working together makes it easier. Happy mother's day sarah. Thank you for sharing. God's blessings to you both and continue praying for a speedy recovery for Kevin's dad.
Happy Mother's Day to all you mothers. No deaths here in Portage MI. The loss of homes & trees is huge. Trees are 4 feet in diameter in some areas. Prayers to all the volunteers & may they stay strong.🙏💪🌈
Why don't you have turkeys?
Prayers continue for your dad🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏♥️
Thank you for the update on Waddlesville and sharing how you transition your animals. Your consideration for your animals is very commendable. Blessings on your family and your growing homestead!🌻🐛Carolyn in Ohio 🌿 (still praying for complete healing and recovery for Dad 🙏)
"Sow the Land" KZread Channel has a video about 2 years ago featuring a Pasture Raised Quail Farmer in Asheville NC "Wild Way Farm". The farmer specifically mentions the "Quail Tractor" needs to be smaller (specs given in video) because the quail get scared and fly up and die (as you've mentioned).
Congratulations with the new babies!! Happy Mother’s Day ☀️🫶🏻💕
So happy your dad is doing well after surgery. And also glad you taped this video ahead of time so we could watch something on Saturday morning, lol.
Thank you for sharing with us. I got such a giggle seeing the adult geese with necks stretched out making sure to protect the babies...your silkies and polish are so cute I just love them. Praying for Kevin's dad and your family. God Bless
Back in my youth (more than 50 years ago) one of my uncles raised Emden geese quite successfully and he had some simple 'golden rules' for hatching naturally: 1. Never let geese share a nest (instead make each individual nesting area as tight as possible). 2. Limit the the amount of eggs in every single nest to 8. As far as I remember (unfortunately I don't have exact numbers, but I'm convinced, that at least during my youth the goslings outnumbered the adult geese every single year), which implies, that he had a hatching rate above 50% with that method over many years, if not decades.
Loved all the updates in Waddlesville! Always look forward to your videos~
I love seeing all the birds so fun to watch
Congratulations on developing a well thought out plan for your poultry and enjoying this measure of success for them.
Hope your dad is doing well. I love the Polish crested chickens. They remind me of Andy Warhol!

Love you guys. Thanks for the update. Even for us who can’t do these things, we still greatly value your sharing real life experiences. God Bless!
Prayers for your Dad tomorrow!
Watching the geese come out of the coop reminds me of the motions of the velociraptors in the dinosaur movies. I guess they had good role models :)
Thank you for sharing your life with us.
The baby geese are adorable. You could keep the quails in the chickentractor in summer. The eggs are easy to see in the grass. In winter you could keep them indoors if it get to cold in your area.
That t-post driver sure seems like a good investment every time I see you use it. Yes, you bought it due to back problems; and it would save folks from developing (as bad) back problems if they began with one in thier young years. The ease that you put in the t-posts outside of the silkie pen and speed/ time savings just seems like the cost of the t-post driver will be saved many times over during its life time.
Hey there kiddos. well I raised some Black Polish-White Crested Birds also. They are a lot friendlier than most birds. We actually named some. We could call one little rooster and he would come running. You have your Silkes & Cested together. To keep blood line strait you will have to separate them for a peroid of time-then you can mix them back together. If you do not your eggs will have mixed variety when sitting time comes around. When sitting time came around I always had some mixed Bantam hens. They want to sit they do not care. I actually put some mallard duck eggs under her and she hatched them out. It looked funny ducks following the chicken around. We had a pool. When ducks got in the water mama got pretty upset. Oh Well have a wonderful day. I love you. Dewayne Willis
Good morning, I'm sorry to hear that the quail didn't work out in the hoop house. We were afraid of that. We tell everyone that asks us that it will be an Easter egg hunt every day. Hopefully, you will keep them back in the stacked cages. You were the last shipment before I got ill, and we enjoy the updates.

If he used layer of sand for bedding instead if chips reckon it would work better than hunting for eggs in the chips?
Good morning 🙏😊 HAPPY MOTHERS DAY Sarah! Have a blessed day 🥰

Can't help but think about quail; more trouble than they're worth.
Thanks for sharing your experience & knowledge. Blessings to all 🤗🇨🇦
I'd love to see you roast a goose! Yum Happy Mothers day Sarah. Your #1 fan from AZ. God bless you all and many prayers 🙏🏻 Nurse Judi ☦️ in Scottsdale and Eucharistic Minister
Happy Mother's Day 💐 love y'all's videos ❤️
Quail is one of those sort of things that unless you are a breeder of a fan, they arent worth the trouble.
Love this so much & God Bless 🙏🙏❤️❤️
We have our quail in a small A-frame coop on an 8'x4' 30" high raised bed. There are 10 female, 2 male in that space and egg collection is easy to just reach in ( I use a grabber stick to dig around and collect them) without bending over or worrying about stepping on them. Another benefit of being on the raised bed in a smaller coop is it's shorter so they don't get the momentum to jump up and break their necks. We started them off on wire too and it just got depressing and we almost gave up. This is a better system, the quail are happier, no more scalping and fighting.
love the gosling's there so cute
You put a smile on my face this morning. Happy Mother’s Day Sarah! God Bless!!
Always enjoy your videos and learn something new. Love seeing the morning duck run! Val C ❤️🙏🏻
I always learn from your vids. Thank you for sharing.
I’d like to share a real helpful idea with you. I know how nasty ducks can get so since they’re going to be in the new house❤ linoleum or vinyl flooring makes it so much easier to clean up. I hope you like this idea.💜
Praying for your Dad. Enjoy your birds they make me smile.
Thks for the update on the quail, I have 50 but seems like it's to much maintenance, for the buck, thks for sharing ,I'm just going to give them away to my brother. Before it really gets out of hand.🎉🎉🎉
Happy Mother’s Day Sarah!
Good morning ☕🌞
Babies are life!! I want to take my broody hen to set on eggs. I think it would be amazing. Congratulations 🎉🎉
Idea. I took cattle/hog panel & connect at ends with 2 or 3 U-bolts per corner. Movable pen. I had 3 pygmy goats in 1, only problem was Sam would hook his horns & lift to ket other 2 wethers out😂
Such a great addition, those polish crested are adorable. The quail are just so sweet. We have a small coop that we place in larger coop with the newbies in it, after a day or so we just open the door on small coop and they all act like best friends. I so want a t-post driver like yours😂, I still have an arbor to create for grapes.
We raise quail outside in an enclosed lean-to with an enclosed pen with chicken wire all around it. They are on the ground and we put a little bit of hay around the inside walls. They lay on the ground and we never have trouble finding the eggs. And they aren't on wire, it's on dirt.
Happy MOTHER'S DAY Sarah from Wendy Bertie a viewer in Toronto Ontario Canada
For the quail, using wood chips instead of pine shavings would help with finding eggs; they can move the wood chips, not as much as the pine shavings though. Also, using deep litter (around 18") will create a compost pile under them which will add heat, plus, they can dig down and get more insulation with heat and cold temperatures.
Praying for Kevin's dad
For five years my wife and I Had an urban farm and raised quail for eggs and meat for sale at Sacramento area farmers markets. We went through many of the same trials that Kevin and Sarah did. We wanted to raise them on the ground but found for incubation and egg sales, having the quail in cages with egg roll outs Is a must. But o raise out a new batch of meat birds or breeders, at three weeks old we would put them in 12 inch tall quail tractors that were 30“ x 8‘ and fit the dimensions of our market garden beds. They eat the old crops pests, and weeds, fertilize the bed and we can call our quail meat pasture raised. Once the quail ladies started to lay eggs then we would put them into the rollout cages. Hope this helps someone with their quail journey. 🐦
Really enjoyed watching 👍👍
Kevin I hope your dad is doing well. Loved the update on all your feathered friends. I wondered how many goslings you would get and they are very cute. 🌸🐨🌸
It is wonderful the geese and other birds can have a more natural life, but sad for the quail and wish you could succeed with that endeavor as many other quail breeders have given their birds a more natural life of raising their young similar to the way your geese are enjoying.
I love how you explain everything so well!! I hope to have chickens & ducks at some point (🙏). Thank you!! So cute...when you opened the door they were like 'whhaaa???' 😂 The goslings are so cute! But I wouldn't want to come across the parents!! 😮🤣 💕
Hoping next year you may hatch out some of the goose eggs in the house. More meat for family or babies to sell to folks that would like buff geese.
Praying for Kevin's Dad...! 🙏 And your Waddlesville is such a FUN place to see ALL of the changes you are making...! ❤ You both are GREAT animal parents...! 🤣 H@PpY Mother's Day, Sarah...! God Bless You BOTH...! ✝
Happy Mother’s Day Sarah and prayers for Dad.😊🙏
Love Waddlesville!! Continued prayers for Kevin’s dad and his recovery! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻. HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to you Sarah and all other moms on this channel. ❤
I tried the same type quail set up 6 years ago. Had the same experience. It wasn't worth the work and effort, with such high mortality. Got out of quail entirely. Chickens are so much easier . . though I do miss the tiny quail eggs in our family favorite Shakshuka. ☺
I had a Polish Crested chicken,they are gorgeous❤❤❤
I recently tasted duck eggs for the first time, it's so creamy! Yum!
Everything in life is a learning experience and I love how you share it all. Good or bad. It's the reality of having a homestead and it's hard work. You two are amazing people. Wishing the best for your family through this difficult time.
I just love the silky birds and their roommates. Oh there beautiful.❤
