This clip is what got me to subscribe and to start following Bart and his teachings. The caller put himself out there, while being nervous, a lot of cocky people would have talked down to him but Bart took the time to explain the poker logic issues onion had. Its awesome to see such a strong player/teacher treating people of all skill levels like they deserve his attention. Not only do we need more teachers like this in today's world but we need more people like this in general. Bart...you are a stand up guy and you just got a fan

No reason to talk down to players that aren't as skilled as you. Onion is calling this show, so clearly he wants to get better at the game, otherwise he wouldn't be calling. As per the fish, the players that " play for fun" as a justification for being bad and not improving, don't waste your breath. I play " for fun" as in I am not a pro ( this is at best a side hustle to me) but having to solve my way through tough situations with my money on the line is fun to me. Just because I play " for fun " doesn't mean I have to be bad or not try to improve my game.

I enjoyed this call in. I mean it was a mess, but he seems to be rather new/inexperienced, so I don't mind. Love the patience from both Bart and the caller. And we could all learn something from simple questions, as were asked in this video. Although, we should ask ourselves these questions while we play the hand, and especially when reviewing them post game. Good job Bart, love the content

Once he checked he thought he was good so he made his opponent spazz... I love these kind of exploits. I used to play super exploitative and my win rate was like 15bb across 1/2 1/3 2/5. Once I started to learn this gto shit my win rate went down to like 10bb. Thousands of hours of data...

When Bart says “do you see why that’s not logically consistent ? Caller says “yeah, I do” so fast (when he clearly doesn’t understand) and Bart just takes it for granted “ok”. Then we miss out on Barts explanation - of a combo bet vs caller trying to get 2 pair to fold or a bluff / draw to go overtop.

Maybe your best video ever. You are patient, but keep pointing out that he makes no sense, and yet you try to keep it on his level. You deserve millions of viewers!

A tip for the caller: when you've called their jam and they're first to act at showdown make them show first. It's useful information that you've paid for.

Another fun thing I liked to do when I jammed on people would be to find out their stack and bet all but $5 of their stack so if they jam go all in (push all chips vs saying call) or just lead the last 5$ river i could call and not be forced to show

This is one of my favorite call ins. Dude, was open enough to let us hear his faults. Which makes the story even more believable imo. Some of the calls seem to be inflated, so to speak.

This caller’s poker is still a work in progress. But I really like the phrase “invoke a raise.” I’m going to star my using that.

I’ve seen lots of callers on this channel try to justify their bad decisions during the call even when they know they were probably bad decisions in hindsight. Lol I know I’ve done it with my friends. It’s ok to make some mistakes but we gotta learn from them and take the time at the table to make better decisions from those mistakes.

Watching your neck turn red during his thought process is the best part of the vlog.

The caller had a read on the villian. His play seemed inconsistent upon review by Bart. But the caller (Onions) had been playing with the villian for a while and correctly read that the villian was weakish and the kind of guy that would overplay his hand on the turn. The villian check raise on the turn was an interesting bluff (as if to say, 'you're trying to act like you have the flush, but I really have the flush) and the caller knew that that was a move he would make. Good read.

And the villian also had a correct read in that the hero did not have a flush. I once saw a hand in Atlantic City, where two players kept raising eachother, like they both had great hands, and when it came time to show their cards, they both had very weak hands. I expressed my astonishment, and an uninvolved player offered "They just didn't believe the other player. They both had a correct read, but in the end, one was just a little bit less weak than the other.

Definitely my favorite call in...Bart was great in the way he ...."counseled"...this guy.....and the caller was...well. .I really don't know what to say about the caller..but I enjoyed listening to him...Actually think the caller is representative of the..."Deer in the Headlights"..mentality that a lot of poker players have...but aren't so willing to be straightforward about..props to the caller for his humility

0:50 an observation: Whenever somebody asks a question, try to respond to the specific question. From the side of somebody asking, we have to wait and weed through aalllll the extra info, when all we want initially is the specific response. As in "we started $800 deep effective". I deal with this as a PM in construction all the time.

His goal was to big brain it 🧠 in zone poker when I see min clicks, raises 3 bets or 4 bets, I am convinced 80% of the time it’s AA and 20% of the time it’s KK, and it kindve is, but that’s at low stakes

He didn't fold preflop with AA. So there's that.

The caller sounds like "the hashtag king", the guy who binked a tourney several years ago. If thats the case, you could make the case that this is a good play, since he's known to make large overbets with hands with draw equity, which would induce villain to shove over the top with a hand with AQ (hero could have Ackx, Axkc, or even all 16 combos of AK, from villains perspective given hero's image). There's a video of cristian soto vs hashtag king on KZread for reference .

Caller just has a hard time expressing his thoughts on the game. All the jargon and buzzwords these days can be a little over the top to a relatively new player. Keep it simple when you are starting. VPIP should be like 15% (fancy jargon lol). Dont flat call, position, position, and position.

To me it seems like the villain put him on AK with a club. That's why he lead the flop, because he didn't want to see T on the turn. Hero just called, which makes sense with AK. And then used the club as a scare card to sekibluff. There aren't many flushes in hero range, so villain jammed with enough money in the pot and just didn't want AK to be able to realize their equity. That's how I can see the logic from villains perspective. I'm not saying it's good, but it is something that makes some sense. If that's the case, the turn overbet seems genius, because it convinces them you're getting out of line with a semibluff.

Was actually just pondering people's donk bet ranges 5:00 in Bart hits exactly what I was thinking.

How is a call fine (w black AA) on the flop when Villain leads with 1/4 pot on a such a draw heavy board?? Cannot understand why a raise on this board with given preflop action isn’t in order?? From $40 to $135 seems so standard. If he has QJ, so be it and you still have quite a few 2 pair outs and the back door nut flush draw. I’m almost always in agreement with you, but this hand really had me up in arms...haha (Sorry if you were simply trying to agree with the caller despite his faulty logic... Like when he said on turn he turned his AA into a semi-bluff because he’s scared of two pair’) -WTF is a ‘parachute bluff’ ?? lmao -I feel like some of your callers include hands that try to make them look like Dan Cates. Also, they don’t include all of the relevant history that can be crucial to the hand. -finally, you ask if villain showed you his hand and he said ‘yes he told me he had xxx’.

All the comments echo my sentiments and thoughts. Man this guy had no idea what he was doing. It is only if you started making negative generalizations about other parts of their character that have nothing to do with their speech, because they have a speech impediment, where there would be a problem. I have strong hand but didn't made anything. I'm pretty sure my opponent has middle pair or worse. However he is a calling station. If i raise he will most likely call. So should I just give up on hands like this?

It seems like the caller’s basic read is that villain plays badly against polarizing bets. he overfolds better and overbluffs worse. it’s pretty clear that the caller was aware that this was an exploitative line and not a standard play. whether the read is correct or the adjustment makes sense is debatable but I have definitely made similar profitable plays where over-repping your hand can get your opponent to spaz.

It's a good lesson. People (Bad players) respond very poorly to overbets. They also react poorly to small c-bets.

He messed the hand up from the start with the min click and on the turn he scared snd wants the hand to be over. He’s only getting called by better if he gets jammed on! He min clicked because he didn’t want a walk preflop and then compounded his problems post flop. The guy has all the 9T AT JJ. You have enough showdown value so check the turn back and hero on the river on good run outs, Right?

Yes, that would be the 100% normal way to play AQ here.

At the end he is asking if a large pf 3b will eliminate the likelihood of straights on the flop because Bart said earlier, we can't eliminate QJ off because the pf 3b wasn't big enough to narrow the villains range. That is why he was looking for clarity. Bart has excellent logic and understanding of hands but sometimes things just get weird in small stakes games and players make crazy decisions based on previous hands ....

I have some questions; I agree for the prefop action (for the Black Aces,,that is small raise,wrong action for sure but With the turn minclick raise is ok(as nobody with aces and club having will fold) with the rivers also with a jam. Indeed minclick is inducing the villain to fold or a jam

At the 1:22 mark, I'm already of the opinion that the caller needs a lot of work on clarifying his thought process. Just from how he's presenting the setup and hand info, it's clear that he's not yet using a consistent/repeatable process to analyse and navigate a hand.

Well then. If the villain wasn't a crazy person, I would actually have loved a line like the one he took with holdings of T9cc or 98cc... because hero's PF sizing looks for all the world like AA that doesn't want to lose his customer. Which is why you don't _do_ that kind of exploitative bet sizing in that spot. With the villain's _actual_ holding of AQ-no-club facing a 2x pot bet on the turn? Snap fold. Not only is hero _far_ more weighted towards AA/KK with his PF sizing, but he can also absolutely have AKcc as played on the flop (or A8cc) - and _you don't block any of those_ !! What a three-ring circus of a hand all around.

I’ve learned a lot from watching this channel but I think Bart was more GTOing this hand than listening to what you said about your history with this guy and the read you had on him. You felt you were good. The reason you felt you were good is because he would behave differently if he had the nuts or a stronger hand. He would let you continue to bluff. He thought maybe he had the best hand on the flop so he bet $40 to see if you raise with an overpaid. You call. If he had the nuts or a set of course he’s checking. The club hits so he checks so you will bluff. You over bet, which looks like a bluff, and he shoves assuming he has the best hand. Obviously this isn’t how you should always play this hand but given what you said I completely agree with “I had the best hand and this is how I could get all the money”. If you bet $100 on the turn he can’t jam but he can raise. And then when you jam he can’t call... good read knowing you had the best hand and nice job getting the best value

I disagree. I feel like him saying “I thought I was good the whole time” is hugely results orientated. The over bet and calling the jam are both hugely questionable plays regardless of what read or history you have on an opponent .This hand is a complete mess from start to finish but at least the caller seems willing to learn.

Not really though… he says he was trying to bluff 2 pair off the hand on the turn and also that he was trying to induce a jam. So his logic is inconsistent. I might buy that it was all about live reads and feel for a specific player if he was consistent the whole time in saying something like “I know this was way out of line but I had a good read on this guy and knew I could maximise value”. Getting exploitative isn’t an issue but not knowing fundamentals is. It may have worked out well for him this time but that’s someone who, without learning, is going to lose a lot of big pots out of confusion.

600 to call 1400 pot is 2.3:1. around 30% equity or more needed to call this. Did I hear bart saying just under 2.5:1 which makes it around 27% needed? 2.5:1 is 29% 2:1 is 33% am I missing something?

I feel like all of the hero's bet sizing we too small and putting the opponent on a proper range becomes very difficult because he gave him good odds to call with every hand... until he made the 300 donk bet. The whole line seemed stranged

In hindsight, his small preflop raise was fine. He had no problem getting all the money in 😂

I’ve been playing a lot of PLO and I feel like hand reading is more cut and dry as c betting sizes at low stakes are very telling, usually, even at high stakes, the c bet sizing is so much more visible to me at least. Just something I noticed. Maybe I’m trying to sike myself out of going back to NLH... I’m babbling... Anyways, is protectionist a word?

Yes it is but more commonly used in economics/environmental logistics etc. But if you’re referring to it from a poker connotation, then maybe... “an individual who continually and often improperly practices the art of protection bets”.
