@@MZ99698 You're right. They won't just let ANYONE do a TED talk, right!? TED talks are great, but you don't have to prove a bunch of credentials to do one. And talking to people doesn't have to be a trick, that's just something he did after the trick. He is LITERALLY called an illusionist. And he also happens to do stuff that you would almost think has to be an illusion to pull it off. You really think is a coincidence? If it quacks like a duck...

1:43 I hate to reveal how a magician does his tricks but I have to tell you just how incredible David Blaine really is here. The guy said Jack of clubs which was the WRONG card David wanted him to choose. You see how calmly David takes the cards from him to find the black jack, quickly folds it using one hand, rips the "right" card from the watch and quickly swaps it for the black jack that he just folded. Just extraordinary slight of hand and showmanship from David!

Ok, I think I figured out how Marques did the flipping all the cards up except for one trick. When he was shuffling the deck himself 13:43, pay attention to the way he's putting the cards on top of one another. It looks like the cards are going in multiple different directions, but really there're only two directions, one facing up, one facing down centered around two cards facing back to back. Then when he showed that there were even cards facing back to back 14:06, he flipped the deck facing down and put it on top of the one already facing up, except that the first card in the facing up pile is facing down. Then all cards are facing one direction except for that middle one. But I still don't know how he got that card to be the exact one Tim was thinking about tho.

  • @claw1479

Yup you're right! Plus you can bend the deck a bit before doing the sloppy shuffle so it's easier to find the cards that are facing back to back. Search "sloppy shuffle", you'll find a ton of tutorials.

  • @rtotheizzle

It was a forced card when he was flipping through the deck. Anytime someone has you choose while flipping through a deck like that they are forcing a specific card that will be shown for longer than the others. When he does the flip on the second guy you can see that the card he chooses (3 of clubs or something) catches your eye.

3:00 i think the trick starts there with a deck that is stacked in some manner, as i think theres a reason it goes 6-8-10 im betting if you saw the other side the cards have an ordering of 5-7-9 and they deck originally is stacked in some manner ( but not by suit as suit would be too easy to notice the ordering of) so when he splits the deck and riffles. it's not really mixing anything just spliting odd and even.

too bad you cut away between 1:12 and 1:18...it is between that cut that you are not showing DB reaching for his are to do the planting of the card. Editing is so key with magic and making it "believable".

  • @AmaraARW

I think the card under the watch wasn't the Black Jack, but he found the card in the deck afterwards and switched it at 1:50 before it was revealed, as you see him slide the card it under the deck of cards first. Now, how he got the card in the watch I can't figure out lol.

Blaine impressed me with his skill in this vid. Clearly he used "marked decks" (meaning you can tell what the card is on both sides)... but to be able to see something that's purposely so small it's hidden in plain view from about 8-10 feet away was very impressive to me. That takes a ton of skill

@@Imac7065 can you point out to me the part which is marked on the back then? I'm familiar with marked cards and I spent a good amount of time studying that paused frame of Marques showing the back, I saw nothing apart from the normal pattern that repeats if you're so familiar with marked cards that your response is "trust me" then you should be able to point out what's marked at 16:02 when the card comes into focus

@@Imac7065 based on what scientific consensus is, as to what the human brain can do, sure there's no other way he could do that. so we have to say marked cards, even though there's 0 evidence of it same reason when he guesses a number in someone's head, we have to boil it down to luck and statistics. when it might be something completely different
