FRENCH Defense: Horwitz Attack, Papa-Ticulat Gambit ! Thanks Igor this is my new Line VS my Fav opening the french defense (when Im Black ) support their pawn on e4 and prepare their kingside for castling. Additionally, Bb2 also serves as an attacking piece that could put pressure on Black's pawn structure. White opens up their options for future gameplay and sets the foundation for a strong position in the middle game. Therefore, Bb2 is a common and effective move in the French Defense: Horwitz Attack can be countered by playing 3...exd4 accepting the gambit they can play 3...NF6, threatening to target the d4-pawn. Black can also play 3...d4 to challenge white's control of the center. Focus on counter-attacking the white pawn structure. love the simplicity of White's plans( witch is normally the Black that have that privilege in the french Defense !♥ Thanks Igor again really love your work and dedication to teach to thecommunity your tips and trick !! 👌👍

As a French player, I really didn't have a thought out response to that but even in dxe4 lines I still have 50% Wins with black against people who were surely more prepared than me. So yeah, an unexpecting player might take on e4 but even then it's still a game. And here comes the caveat for the people watching this video: Prepare something for French players not taking the pawn on e4! Even in their main lines many people won't take on e4 because they don't want to play the Rubinstein/Burn-Variations and go for Winawer/Classical French instead. J. Watson writes: 1.e4 e6 2.b3 d5 3.Bb2 dxe4 requires theory knowledge and recommends 3...Nf6 or (his main line) 2...b6 instead. But I haven't tried those yet.

    Nice video, but perhaps not the most relevant replies for Black - what should White do after 1. e4 e6, 2. b3 d5 3. Bb2 Nc6....one recommendation might by 4. e5 but after 4....d4 the e5 pawn is a bit astray. 4. exd5 exd5 looks very okay for Black, 4. Qe2 is interesting....I'd say 3...Nc6 is a pretty good reply to 2. b2 :-\

This is a cool line, though i find it a bit passive if my opponent plays the move 3 c5 very early to break my center ( in fact i play this line), me personally i find 3 Nc3 BB4 the Winawer the most fun line against the French. On a side note I think a underrated opening that works is the Trompowsky Attack with d4 Nf6 which i get very interesting playable positions no matter what my opponent plays after Nf6

A nice way to relegate your opponent's 100 hours of studying the French to the trash heap. And one reader's suggestion that 3...Nc6 gives Black a slight advantage (a dubious claim - being completely equal is not equivalent to having any kind of advantage) may be valid to some extent, but how likely is your opponent to even consider that move? And even if he does, I'm fine with an equal position where I can expect to have good winning chances if I'm the better player - since my opponent can no longer play the first five to fifteen moves from memory. One caveat - White should be prepared to play the Snyder Sicilian should Black play 2...c5.
