I have an exam the day after tomorrow and this video has taught me better than six powerpoints and two other videos, thank you XD
This is excellent work. One of the best videos on IPA for English. Very useful for students at any level!🙏
It’s useful that IPA is consistent, but the most useful way to use it is to unpack English’s vowel sounds. Each symbol has a standard position on a standard chart which gives you all the information you need about where your tongue is and what it’s doing, provided you have a good starting point

@@jairod12gr Perhaps I understand what you mean Jairo. Well, basically, all the issue is there precisely: English is NOT A PHONETIC LANGUAGE !!! Therefore there are no real rules! You have to listen a lot, a lot of English to master the pronunciation and get used to it! That is the key! That said, you will soon get used to it and some 'self-evidences' , guesses and permanences are going to come off progressively and will become like no-brainers. Knowing the IPA is going to be very useful for you for words for which you're gonna be hesitant or ponder about the right pronunciation If you can read the IPA (given with the words in dictionaries), you'll be instantly able to pronounce it. I think you're wrong, according to the IPA /r/ is the rolled r, the english r is /ɹ/
@fabrice9252
In fact Nico, /ɹ/ is the american voiced consonant R ! /r/ is actually the 'general' English r and it is sometimes silenced = schwa sound and sometimes indicated between parenthesis (r). There are a lot of variation of the R sound in English notably according to whether they're rhotic (american) or non-rhotic (most frequently in British English)

1. The story relates an episode of George Washington youthfulness when he visited a market; a horse (very wild) is for sale and the horse dealer proposes to give him the horse if he manages to ride it ! ... 2) The market was in a neighbouring town in the countryside where George lived. 3) The boy hoped he could succeed in riding the horse without falling. 4) The problems? ... Maybe the fact that the horse and the boy went away like wind and no one then could witness the riding. 5) At last, the horse came back with the boy always on his back. The crowd thought the bet was won for George but against all odds, George admitted that the horse had thrown him down once in the woods during the riding. 6) The main characters are: George W. (when a child) ; the horse dealer ; the horse itself ; the crowd ; a rich man in the crowd 7) A rich man in the crowd is absolutely amazed by George' s honesty because the latter could have lied, not telling that he had fallen during the ride and therefore, win the horse. The man, amazed by his formidable honesty, offers a job to George on his land; he will have the finest horse to ride. The moral therefore is : Be honest / honesty and telling the truth pays off !

@@fabrice9252 I got the above text from an English book titled "New Standard English Readers for elementary school 8", which was a Singaporean handbook printed in 1980s. Few senior-high students in our school understood it well. I typed each word carefully according to whatever I saw in the book. However, I feel there is something wrong with the phonetic transcription I have made. I am not sure. Perhaps, the last paragraph. But, it will be over. Again, English is not considered an important subject in Indonesia. The government reduce English classes up to 50% in the coming semester with their new curriculum called "Kurikulum Merdeka" (Freedom Curriculum). They do not need many teachers of English. Soon or later I must try to find a new job and forget about all about the teaching of these phonetic symbols, grammar and anything related to English. You are welcome, @Fabrice.
