my grandson practiced one day, went home repeating it, and said it to his parents (who thought it was gibberish) then told me the whole thing saying "mimmie, daddy doesnt believe that llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwryndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch is a real word and real place" and he rattled it off like a pro. he just turned 7. took me 3 days to say it. lol granddaughter (his sister) 4, says it but mispronounces a few things like she says "ampicilia go go goke" she tends to leave out the "chwyrndrobwll" part. we have to remind her. Kids....learned it faster. tsk tsk. i feel old and slow. lol.they practically said it after a nights sleep, took me 3-4 days. lol

After listening to this song for a week it just finally clicked and now I have learned a pointless word just to be the strange one in life XD
I went on holiday to Wales in the summer and I stayed in Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch. It's such a lovely place and I'm deffinately going to stay there again next year. Now I can say that I've stayed at the place with the forth longest name in the world!
This video was the very reason I learned to pronounce this loooooong name some years ago! Thank you.

My mum and Dad LOVE this video! They are both 79 and haven't got a laptop and are not on-line so I played this to them; but this video has become a favourite in our family because they visited Llanfair#####Gogogoh last week and they just adore this song and we had to play it a few times for them... Thank you SO MUCH for producing it.

Hey, I am Indonesian and very fascinated with the name of this town. I am going to study in the UK by the end of this year and planning to visit this town during my stay. Fortunately I have managed to say it (after a very long practice LOL). For my Indonesian fellow, here is how to say it based on Indonesian spelling (I guess) : Khlan-vair-pulkh-gwin-gilkh-go-ger-ikh-wirn-drob-ol-khlan-ti-silio-go-go-gokh......Eventhough I don't think they are quite interested to see this video :(

There's a spelling mistake in the sign used in the video. It should be WYRND, not WYND after gogerych.
My Great Aunt speaks fluent Welsh, and teaches it in an all boys' high school. She taught me the letter 'Ll' in Welsh is basically said when you lift your tongue to the top of your mouth to pronounce an L sound in English but then hold the tongue there and blow. A throaty, spitty sound is made. That is how the letter 'Ll' is pronounced in Cardiff. (well at least according to my Great Aunt and a few other family members)

I have been contacted by one person stating there is one letter wrong in the spelling of LLanfairPG. Brilliant observation. The sign Lorraine is carrying was until the day before affixed in Cardiff City Centre as a signpost where it had been for many years. It was replaced with a new sign in 2010 having the correct spelling. (i.e. with one letter change) It of course makes no difference to the song!! The sign in Cardiff was one of the most photographed items in the centre.
This did helped alot
Lovely song! I'm a Geordie, but live in Chepstow with a Valley lass (I know I know). I'll learn this to make fun of the Welsh! ;-)
OMG I said it right!!!
I wish I'd remember the name of the gal I met in Bergen who introduced me to this name.
Good to play a scrabble or a cross words with such a name of this town
-"911 help me, I'm in danger" -"Where are you?" -"At Llanfairpwllgwyngy ..." (dead)
Hehehe i -3 this song xD
I don't know why it so hard to say this once someone shows how it's pronounced. It's so easy even Sylvester the Cat can say it. Well, I suppose it's easy for him since he already talks like that.
only took me 5 minutes now and can say really well.:)

Song can be bought on a CD 'Heart of Wales'. I know they sell them at the Welsh Centre in Cardiff, opposite the Castle. +44 (0) 2920 343038
one of the most epic youtube-comments ever known to mankind!
The following website has detailed text that breaks the name down syllable by syllable: www.llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.co.uk/say.php Learn the name from there, then come back to this website and sing along!
I'm not Welsh or anything, but the long sign in the video seems to have an error, or the name can be spelled in alternative ways. It reads "...gogerychwyn,,," and all sources I have seen says "...gogerychwyRn...".
A shadow of its former self. The station building is a warehouse too. What's more, it's not even a full station -- trains stop there on request only (i.e. you have to flag them down like a bus!)
Yes, I got some family photos. If you looked at my uncle that served in World War 2, you'd swear it was Prince Harry in uniform for an American army soldier.
Have sent your enquiry to Hot Town Music

Pamela. Greetings to you at PROTECTION ISLAND, NANAIMO HARBOUR B.C. CANADA. I received your e.mail. Will try and send you the Chords and Words for your band PENDERYN, It is a real fun song for an audience. I have replied via E.Mail but replying here just in case it goes astray. Greeting from Wales, JFW
The sign used for the video is incorrect: it writes, "wyndrobwll" instead of "wyrndrobwll". Perhaps best seen at 3:07.
I want to move here. NOW.
@gariadara yes i do^_^ i just do a ll instead of th in typing hehe
I've found a reasonable approximation of the ll sound is to place your tongue on the roof of your mouth and blow sharply. Once you're familiar with the basic pronounciation rules (e.g. 'w' = 'u' or 'oo', 'f' = 'v', 'ch' pronounced as in 'loch') it gets easier to build up... even though it deviates in several places from standard Welsh grammatical rules. Apparently the full name (everything from ~gogerychwryn onwards) was an 1860ish PR stunt to drum up tourism with the arrival of the railway...
Very good... Now check out "Anglesey Paul Damian"....the original "How To Say Llanfair etc" song. all good stuff
This is the only word of Welsh I know!
Bought a train ticket to Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch once - it was a yard long - had to be, to fit the full name on - could have ended up in Lampeter or Llanberis, otherwise!
omg i learn , so easy
Dang, that's clever.
From my understanding this is My Family's last name. They shortened it over here in the United States but my grandfather worked with MacArthur's grandfather with the Indian treaties that's my bloodline his grandson as far as I know which is my grandfather United States Air Force also a federal court judge of Ohio he is in the historical Society there in Ohio so you can make the connection my baby brother is a twit and thinks that he can take his older brothers privilege of being the older brother he did not earn that right and try to take everything away from me just like my other sibling so backstabbing is still living strong but if it was like 500 years ago they'd be hanging right now off the side of a castle

My challenge anyone to do their research and prove me wrong because I know I'm right and if it is true I'm a defendant of this town and give you a little insight if true on my father's side look up that bloodline that would blow your mind and this is my mother's side of the family I dare someone to prove me wrong I doubt seriously that's how I know when family b******* you and boy there's some Waiters that are way too big for the b******* here
I was told my grandfather landfair. Is the direct descendant of this name how does that work . Because the bloodline here in America has a history with American Indians here in Colorado and my great-great-great-grandfather Robert Blake landfair the first is buried in a place called Dragon Arizona. And he was part of the Indian treaties going on out here during the time in somewhere buried around a place called Tombstone another historical event that happened I am. I am curious of my family bloodline can anyone relay a story

From Wales myself still can't say it
Yess i did it
Actually when you call 911 in Wales it will also be redirected to the emergency services.
The Irish came and stole the Welsh's vowels and scattered them around their own words for decoration, so the Welsh lengthened the names of their villages to make it harder for raiders to ask directions to them.
I can't even pronounce a few parts of that name O_o Those sounds will not come out of my mouth. And I come from the part of Sweden that has the most similar sounding dialect when it comes to the letter R and a few other things...

Jargien the "ch" is like a harsher version of the rikssvenska pronunciation of the sj in "sju". The "ll" is similar, but in the front of the mouth. You will probably be understood if you pronounced the "ll" like the "j" in an overly enthusiastic "Jjjjjaaaaaaaaaa!!!", in other words, very breathy. Although wildly inaccurate, that pronunciation would probably be understandable from a linguistic standpoint, as far as I can tell. In other words, people will likely know what you mean.
