WELSH NATIONAL ANTHEM. CELTIC VERSION

By the magical river Edw, two miles before it meets the Wye, Lorraine King sings a beautiful Celtic interpretation of the Welsh National Anthem, probably the finest Anthem tune in the world.

The welsh athem is so sweet. It never calls the country by it's name. Only by affectionate nicknames. It is like the land were a beloved girlfriend of long date. The melody is not polluted by martial phrases. In fact, it is suitable to be sung to a baby, as he dozes into sleep. There is a short and a long version. The short version is brief and suitable for sports events. The long version makes me wish it was longer. The welsh athem is everything a national athem should be, and I envy the welsh people aestetic sense. Indeed, may the old language endure.

As an Englishman I have nothing except respect for the Welsh, their patriotism is an example to behold in my opinion, akin to the Scots who again I hold in high regard. I've been to Wales, all over the south, the north and I loved the place and the people... They love their rugby and their country in tandem, what more could you honestly ask from men...??

Cymraeg is the oldest language in all of Europe. I am trying to teach myself the language, its my ancestory, Wales is my passion~ Diolch yn Fawr! Gail

Any suggestions of vids or sites which describe your country? The music, food and lore I've found, so far is wonderful! Thanks...BTW is Welsh also Celtic? I've researched some Welsh, but I don't think I'm even close with pronunciation...Thanks for all your vids m

Thanks for your comment. Its also interesting how many English have Welsh Surnames, Davies, Jones, Griffiths, Powell, Lloyd etc., It could be that their ancestors were Welsh and moved to England and started thinking of themselves as English. The hissing LL is made by putting your tongue at the top of your mouth and saying Llanfaircaerionion for instance or Llanfairpwllgwynwyth...... By the way I love Coventry Cathedral and the original one next to it. Always pop in to see them when in Coventry.

As a Welsh speaking person I can assure you that Welsh is not a Celtic language. Welsh and the languages of Basque, Brythonic and Cornish are not Celtic but derive from the Iberian peninsula. The genome project confirms this. Celts are a different race altogether and came from Central Europe

A long-standing rule banning athletes waving unofficial flags at the Olympic Games has been criticised by politicians in Wales. According to an International Olympic Committee (IOC) rule, competitors should not have flags which could be perceived as a "political gesture". This means the flags of Wales, England, Scotland and Northern Ireland are effectively banned. Team GB will be represented by the union flag Time for Welsh Independance boys !
