    Thanks for posting this Kieren! I LOVE Mark's approach- he mirrors everything Damo and Adam (who I know was his student for some time) teach- but after going through this just one time- I can definitely FEEL the sensations he's talking about- this is really good stuff- not "10 years of effort" but 90 minutes- now my other practices (Damo's and Adams) should really benefit- I started with Adam- Damo refined it further along for me- now Mark gets me to the goal line in no time (relatively)! Sweet!

Because to be honest, this video is the most comprehensive on this subject that I have seen.

    While not experienced with this art specifically I'm familiar with "high" level meditation and this exercise seems to be an exercises how to consciously shift your brain into the alpha state with a combination of breath, body and mental concentration. The reason why taijiquan is called moving meditation makes complete sense now. This is very good information!

  • @johndough8115

    @johndough8115

    From my experience, the Alpha state, is just the very shallow beginning of meditation. The higher levels are achieved when the body is in the sleep state... where if you tried to move your arms, the body would not respond for at least 45 seconds... while it boots back up into the waking state. Most people fall asleep within that state... losing all conscious control, and are within the realm of the dream state. The main development in Tai Chi, and similar practices.. is related to many physical developments: The special deep and constant breaths.. increased your oxygen levels, and overall capacity. Both in your lungs, and down to the Cellular levels (each cell being able to hold more O2, and be more efficient with it). Certain deep breathing uses the Abdomen.. or "Dan-Tian" (Abdomen muscles, tissues, and surrounding area tissues / muscles). This develops certain areas "physically", that no other standard exercises can achieve. In addition, the Dantian / Diaphragm has much greater level of control... so you can both control your breath 1000x better... but also, to be able to use it "Explosively", for use in Fajing (explosive short range power strikes). When using the deep breathing with impacts to the body... you are achieving "Iron Body" conditioning. The skin, muscles, and other internal tissues + bones... will get Stronger and Denser. Not only that... but the tissues will have much greater circulation + able to hold more Oxygen, and will mildly increase in size... swelling up like a balloon (sort of like an Erection). This increased blood + oxygen, creates a sort of Hydraulic Fluidic Shielding... better protecting the internals from impact damages (fluids do not compress). That said... Tai Chi's slow moving forms... do a similar thing... but at a much slower pace (when down properly... for long enough periods of time). For example... simply standing in deep horse stances long enough... causes enough stress to strengthen and "balloon" the legs, similar to the described Iron Body training. It also strengthens the tendons greatly... while creating them to be very elastic as well. When doing these exercises / forms for long enough... you build new connections within your brain. You become hyper aware of every little part of your body.. both internally and externally. You also develop a much higher level of 3d Spatial awareness. As such... you are much better an gauging how far an OP is away from you... If you can reach them.. and or of they can reach you...etc. And if you have done enough daily, consecutive, 1hr meditation sessions (about 100 days in a row), you can develop a state of the mind.. that I call "Quiet Mind". Its at that point, where you have disciplined your subconscious mind... so that it is quiet and obedient.. and can serve you Much better in life. This quiet state... greatly increases your quality of life... as you can live fully in the Present (the Gift).. without any distractions. It also means you can learn 2 to 5x faster. And, its critically important for Combat... where you cant afford even a millisecond of distraction / loss of focus. In my experience, the Quiet Mind state is much faster to develop, when you are doing lay-down, silent, meditation sessions (which is how I achieved it). You simply do long, slow, deep, breaths... and silently count each inhale and exhale in Seconds. Always count Upwards, starting at One IE: "One One-Thousand... Two One-Thousand... Thee One-Thousand..." (The "One-Thousand", is a way to keep the same exact Timing, between each second). Each session should be a minimum of 1hr... and you need to do a session every day/night... for at least 100 consecutive days. If you miss some days... the mind could potentially reject your attempt to tame it.. and it could greatly lengthen the development time. In my case, Im a bit of an extremists... So I was doing a 1hr session right after getting home from work... and one more session, right before bed. I did the Yogic type of breathing exercises (outside of meditation), and daily meditation sessions... years before I started doing martial arts. Eventually I studied Wing Chun, which in the first form.. there is a Slow-Motion set... that is supposed to be trained very similar to how Tai Chi forms work (though, too many WC teachers and practitioners do not know + practice it that way). That part of the form takes about 16 minutes.. with the rest of the form being only like 2 more minutes. So the form would be repeated 4 times in a row.. to reach a little over 1hr of non-stop work. I would do this every other day, for several months. I can tell you, that my internal and external awareness... was on a Whole other level, compared to any other typical martial artists. And since I already had the breathing from my previous practices... I was able to add them to the art as was intended and designed... but is also often done wrong, and or not focuses on at all. Additionally, I also did Iron Body training. For demos... I chop my own neck about 7 times in a row.. as hard and fast as possible. There is no choking, redness, nor bruising. I also hit my own inner forearm several times in a row. A small red circle is all you see.. but that vanishes in less than 5min. That same amount of force on someone else, would leave a serious bruise, that would last for like a week or so. I will say that Im not all that satisfied with this mans descriptions.. and I question his development and levels achieved. That said... I cant fully discard anything without having tested those methods for myself. There is some similar roots... and there is a saying.. that "All roads lead to Rome". Basically meaning, that there are many different ways to achieve the same, or similar, goals.

    Part 2: Im also going to add one more thing: When many people do Tai Chi... they are simply moving their arms through the air (muscle only) ... and not really getting the true Benefits, as a result... The best way to describe the difference... is to relax to the point where your entire body is Unified like a single blob of water, in a trash-bag. You are not moving your arm... your moving your body and arm as One... which is why that arm will have 100x more power behind it, when utilized properly. I tell people, to try to feel like your body is wet and Heavy. Like you just came out of the ocean.. and your clothing is sopping wet, and heavy. You want your entire body to feel as if its heavier and weighted... which is how you know your body is at its most Relaxed and unified state. (working more with tendons, mass, and structure... instead of muscle power) Once you are at that state.. you can develop quickly.. and to a much greater depth of capabilities. An example of the reason why: If you are using more muscular force to hold and drive your arms... then your tendons are not really going to be challenged much. Yet when you eliminate most of the muscle power... then gravity and your arms mass... will strain the tendons much more... especially over the course of a 1hr session, of long extended arms (extended arms, creating leverage, which greatly amplifies the mass effect). There are other reasons, for not using muscle force... such as it breaking from the unified mass... as well as it making you stiffer... and thus easier for the OP to move and manipulate you. Your body should be fluid, adaptive, and springy.. like a Bow (compression and expansion).

    Sounds very interesting your approach which is definitely different to the conventional approach of concentrating internally. May I ask what does one expect to feel from this 'magnettic energy'? N how high or apart should one's arm be? I would love to take your course if I could only taste a little of the inner workings. I fear I don't process the elemetary quality (xian tian) n it would be wasting both our time. I have yet to get past the first 15 min exercise n feel the sensation.

    Very Inspiring Internal Work!... Condensing 10 years of "INTERNAL" training into 90 minutes?... I wanna believe that... and, intuitively, I feel Sifu Mark Rasmus is telling the factual truth - IF we can TRULY drop our "ego" and FULLY EMBRACE THE PRACTICE DILIGENTLY with every ounce of our being (perhaps it's not about practicing "harder", but practicing "softer" - with MORE PURE QUALITY?). • @LiShuBen

    @LiShuBen

    2 жыл бұрын

    Every high level practioner I met says this isn't true. Celibacy help one tune into energy but if you already have it you don't need to hold back. Expanding alot attention or energy into anything beside cultivation can "drain" you and even cultivating with the wrong intention can drain you or limit your process. The secret as I have learned is how you approach your training and your mindset , focus and underlying intention at all times even when not actively practicing, though one should get to a point where they are always "tuned in" so just being awake or even asleep is training
