I used to breakdance in middle school and high school. I could even do flares, windmills, and airflares. Then I started to party too much, work all the time, and had kids young. My kids didnt believe I was decent at breaking back in the day so I had to show them what was up! Since I'm 34 now and slightly out of shape, I now have a sprained wrist and a pulled groin muscle.......... They still dont believe I was a bboy and laughed hysterically when I got hurt. Maybe I cant break anymore but at least I can still ground my kids 😄👍

Peace brother! I am 57, and I am an original Bboy from Brooklyn. You just started back too fast. Start again, this time review each move one by one. These young cats got the details down. Originally We learned by watching and doing. Nowadays, I am watching, listening, relearning learning from these young cats. And I am back to enjoying the freedom of flight.

this is a great explanation. I went through all those steps and can verify that this is totally the way to go. Just keep at it and try to force your way through. Even if you feet touch the ground just keep pushing forcibly, your brain will figure it out eventually while at the same time body will get stronger

It probably went something like, i wonder if i can spin on my hands without touching the ground. And then something like So what would that require? well in order to spin you need have a fulcul point to spin your momentum around that foculpoint And then something like Alright, so i I know my hands would be the foculpoint, but my my mobility is limited, maybe if im able to transfer my momentum to my other hgand it might work. And then something like alright so now how do i move my legs and lower body so that i can keep my momentum in the direction i want? etc.etc

@@j.e1806 I used to think things like this might have had a studied origin, but from experience I’ve seen the reverse. People tend to figure out this stuff by just doing a similar skill and then by simply feeling it out. Then after it’s figured out people tend to go back and study how it works. This is exactly what happened with skateboard tricks. People weren’t thinking about torque or moments, they just felt it. (The only exception to this is the “impossible”, but that’s a more recent skateboard trick)

Hi folks I'm probably the most unusual 55 year old around town, I have very fit body and perform as a part time pro dancer and stripper, I look 10 years younger than my age however. Ive been trying to catch the flares for years unsuccessfully until a few days ago. The mistake I was making that is hardly mentioned is; I used to swing my hips too low and short, I stopped @ 5 to 4 o clock but once I filmed myself I saw the error. Now I complete my swing @ 2 -1 o'clock and I swing higher with more power completing 3 rounds easily. I still need to clean it up but I can now go around. So anyone learning the flares take note of where your hips completes the swing, remember 2-1 o clock or 10 -11 o'clock

I've wanted to learn how to do flares for a while. I've still got a lot of gym progress to make before I can do this but I will be regularly revisiting this video Edit: I still can't EVEN DO THE INITIAL LAUNCH

MiSter_JaNn your probably not using your legs as much for momentum. If your just letting them hang than begin to use them besides when kicking from a stab
