I remember watching a video of a Swedish guy hiking and he filmed as a bear started following him up the mountain. They cannot carry guns over there (sadly), so the next best thing would've been for him to carve two spears from tree logs or sticks (before encountering the bear, obviously) and use the blunt ends as walking sticks. If a bear comes into your camp, you have axe and knife, no gun (imagining), now what? All that time the person sat there looking at the fire in their comfortable complacency, they could've carved 3-4 spears from tree logs or sticks. Have a few extra to launch at the threat, and 2 of them to dual wield for CQB. Selfdefense is layered, not to be reliant on only 1 or 2 items. Use our weapons to create more weapons. I'm sure you already knew this, and would be cool to see you show it in video. ☺️

I would like to see a book of Major Ogle's Ultimate Survival Kit and how to use it effectively.
82nd Airborne Ranger Andrew always delivers!! 🇺🇲🦅💪
Your bushcraft videos really stand out from the rest of the content on youtube; straight to the point, and often really creative. Thanks for all of the content!
What makes Andrew an authority is his creativity and innovation. His problem solving, teaching and leadership skills are really impressive.
You make some of my favorite content brother.

💯 - I kinda watch his stuff in order to vicariously get away from "real life" - get back to REAL basics
As always, I'm astonished how Andrew shows again and again that the most important tool is skills and knowing how to improvise. Great work, thank you. Best wishes from Germany. Take care.
Many of these skills apply anywhere in the world. We live in the tropics where warm or hot weather and high humidity are the norm. A bit over 100 klicks north of our home base, there is a mountainous area. Trust me, it can get frosty up there. We have never seen snow but frost will suck the heat from your body. Thank you for yet another superior teaching video.
What a fine teacher you are Andrew, these are life saving skills and are as old as the hills.Your efforts will save lives.
Always learn new stuff here! Bushcraft trailblazer 🎉
One of the best channels of it's kind on KZread. I love the direct, no nonsense instruction and clear visuals. Top job well done. Thank you.😊
Loved the video. 👍👍 A note on the Sasquatch bed. Like sleeping bag ratings, that 4" (compressed) is a "survival" rating. For a truly comfortable bed, increase material depth 2-3x. You can do this with all grass, or if material is in short supply, use boughs, etc, for the bottom layer. My favorite way to sleep in the woods! I also make my bottom two logs longer on my long fire for a convenient cooking platform.

If there is no grass, will leaves and duff work similarly or do you need to gather more material?
@carrdoug99
4 ай бұрын
@michaelmcewan2364 leaves will work, but you'll want to collect more (they compress more). Leaves will tend to be wetter, too. If you're in an area with a lot of ferns, those work great. Regarding compression, on day two, you'll probably want to add your top cover to the base and gather more grass for the top layer (you're generally fine from there on).

@martinbeagley4481 you guys have got lots of ferns though, right? Of course, they're wet too. 😂
Deer heart is also my very favorite meal. I’ll have to try it in the field next time. Awesome demonstration as always!
Outstanding video! Tallow candle was totally new to me. Andrew you are the real deal! I agree with other viewers that you should write a book. I would buy it for sure!👍👍
That is some righteous Free Chicken. Saved!
I know you are a ranger and use to starving yourself, but i appreciate it when you show videos about how to eat well in the woods.

Average weight of the male Ranger graduate is rumored to be about 168 lbs., IIRC. You are likely going to be too busy most of the time doing interesting & challenging stuff to feel much hunger, though.
We use to make those hobo meals back in the 60's, easy peasy. Pull them out of the cooler ( PRE MADE AT HOME ) an right on the fire, never knew what would be in them tho, could be chicken, beef, fish, or some sort of sausage, with veggies. Knocked it out of the park with this vid Andy, thx for the vid
Nice relaxing video from you again.
You could also make pemican from the tallow if you want to preserve extra meat if you will be out there for a while.
Awesome video Thanks, that rice looked Perfect! the rest was yummy
Out of the 50 + bush craft survivalist long term camping vvidios on You Tube. You are the Ultimate I best also the book idea is great i would definitely buy it !!!!!!!!
That "grass bed" would also make a great "sniper hide"... 😏
I like his presentation. It’s to the point. No nonsense.
A good video and that meal looked delicious, people that hasn’t had a deer heart, don’t know what their missing. Been eating them for 50 years with homemade Brown gravy and rice 🤤 thanks for this video it made me hungry

In some Midwestern and Western farm country various stands of field corn can be found unharvested all winter. The ear corn can be shucked, shelled, and ground to supply a generous supply of corn meal. The corn meal can be combined with deer tallow to help keep dogs strong and healthy. Expert utilization of rabbit can provide a further fully nutritious meat supply. Starving on a diet of rabbit can thus supposedly not be inevitable.
This video is All The Way and then some. Airborne!
Thanks Andrew, just when I thought I had a handle on things in the wild, I learn something new from you 💪🔥🔥 So happy for your Channel exploding, you deserve it.
Very nice Congratulations on the woods groceries Circumstances didn't allow me to hunt this time, but I did get a fresh squirrel for a stew. Goes good with ramens too. Thanks for the informative video
Agreed with other comment- write a book. Military/Bushcraft survival. This man will NOT die in the cold. Love deer meat. Partial to bear meat 👍 Always a privilege. Thanks Major. Bravo Zulu. Rah!!
That's pretty dern good stuff.
Great video! In a real survival situation you can't be squeamish! You need them organs and bone broth , especially over a longer period !! Having access to a trap line is obviously a given, but you don't want to end up with Rabbit starvation
I love the tallow candle. Tallow has many uses, ive never rendered it down myself, but it is a skill i need to work on
So much information! I love it!
I do like his presentation.....strait to the point👍
One of the top channels on KZread.

Excellent demonstrations !
Love videos like this! You cover real life, down to earth practical skills and also cover hygiene practices such as after processing game for a meal. Great work on an awesome video!

Awesome andrew as usual
I love the axe handle removal method. I read about it years ago
Thanks for sharing with us. Today, anything helps.
Well done, as always and perfect timing. It's 10 degrees outside.
Outstanding information
This reminds me of my teenage years hunting and sleeping in the jungle alone for almost 5- 10 years.
When we go to deer camp every year we cook fresh backstraps & heart in aluminum foil like that, only we wrap it all in cabbage to keep it from burning. A luxury of deer camp.
Absolutely love the rice steamer tip. Deer heart is very tasty.
One of the best survival channels. Only really usable information in a real survival. 👍🏼🇵🇱
Good video
Dude, YOUR CHANNEL ROCKS!

BRAVO ZULU 🔱🇺🇸
My buddies always thought i was crazy for collecting the organs and tallow when we went hunting. I have a ton of candles made and the organs are some of the most calorie rich parts
THANK YOU for another outstanding tutorial on Cold Weather survival.

Another top-notch video. Thanks!! 👍👍
Sir, T Y again. Another Power Point Competition Grand Slam. Such good effort & product! Dog mushers back in the day would often rely on cornmeal & "dog tallow" to nourish the dogs. Feeding moose meat to dogs has long been illegal in Alaska, but moose tallow surely is legal? I had to put down a couple of road hit moose in Yukon, but did not get to see the dressings-out salvage to see how much fat they carried. Lucky to find your neighbor's deer heart, so you didn't have to eat that neighbor. Hunger may be the best sauce, but subfreezing temps raise the bar. Some kind of thin glove is desirable to wear inside mitts to keep skin from freezing when exposed. Bare hands in leather chopper mitts are sometimes enough for working.
