LEAN BITES: THE LEAN STRATEGY

I’ve found that a strategy done well at the start of the journey will make a significant difference to the success of the journey.
A strategy asks the question “what do we need to do to be successful”. It involves understanding where you’re currently at and mapping a pathway to achieve that goal successfully. It’s an overall framework and must be partnered with an implementation plan. The strategy starts as a key communication piece.
It should involve 2 key principles: make it simple & make it inclusive.
Over the years I’ve used simple diagrams to convey the strategy, visually. Use diagrams that are familiar to the organisation.
How can I get the best out of my strategy:
1. Visible: Above all make it simple, easy to understand and accessible. A dedicated noticeboard works well.
2. Communication: Ensure all socialisation and progress updates are done with the board. Share the detailed implementation plans updates specifically with those who it relates to, don’t share everything to everyone.
3. Link it to the vision/mission/values: Connecting your Lean Strategy to these will help to integrate it into the organisation.
If you have challenges with your implementation plan, find a way around the obstacles without losing momentum. Keep your eye on the goal & don’t give up.
I’m sure you’ll find this valuable.
