LEAN BITES: BUILDING CODES FOR A SUCCESSFUL LEAN JOURNEY

There are principles, what I call the common Building Codes that I’ve used over the years which have led to a successful Lean journey and by sharing them with you, will hopefully support you on your Lean journey.
A building code is a set of regulations enforced by local and federal governments to create standards to which builders have to comply in order to achieve the right outcome, a safe building that will stand the test of time against adverse conditions.
Building Code #1: Build a simple and inclusive Strategy. That’s easy to understand, implement and measure success. Inclusive means that everyone has a part to play in the implementation, has the opportunity to contribute and sees the clear vision.
Building Code #2: Build a Respectful environment. Everyone has a part to play, but success is only possible when we work together. In a psychologically and physically safe environment.
Building Code #3: Build your People. Work on the skills required to meet your current needs whilst thinking about the immediate future needs. Give your people the opportunity to test and grow their skills through day to day, on the job application.
Building Code #4: Build with Flexibility. Be flexible to weather the un-forecasted obstacles that you will encounter. Keep the ultimate end game at the forefront of your thoughts. Don’t lose heart and never give up.
I’m sure you’ll find this very helpful.
