When i soldered in tight places, i used old license plates, backside facing heat. They bend easy and you could duct tape them in place. Great for protecting fiberglass, keeping wood from burning, etc. Tech tip momma.

There's no reason not to. Friends had a condo built around 2005. There was access to the back side of all 3 shower/tub valves, and for every cleanout. The place was also wired and piped for electric & gas appliances so you could run whatever you wanted. Also properly piped for a water softener (a necessity in the area) so the kitchen faucet and patio hose connection got unsoftened water. Someone with experience was involved in the design, that's for sure.

Code for Swedish bathroom is everything has to be external - pipes, taps, mixers. Pipe is chrome plated copper with chrome compression fittings, no soldering. And floors and walls are sealed all the way up.

Great job. I recently did the same Moen shower valve replacement. It was impossible to solder the valve body without leaking using lead free solder. I finally bought some 60/40 lead solder and it worked great.
