Was hoping for some comparison between lead acid and lead crystal batteries. As far as i understand it, the crystal batteries hold their charge longer and have many more charge cycles as they are less effected by discharge.

Why are people saying lithium batteries last longer than lead acid when Ive seen deep cycle ones in golf carts last like 10 years or so while lithiums lose like half their power in 1?

I wanted to ask; is the vapor, or air around a battery bank really that bad? People think it is, but if its well ventilated I wonder if that's true still? And is the idea of the air around a battery bank not being good actual fact or just a myth?

I've been personally involved with lead acid batteries since 2012 for my solar dc setup. The battery is in my bedroom but located near a window for ventilation. It doesn't smell nice from a very close proximity. I normally only get that close when topping up the battery with distilled water and making sure the wires are still securely connected. The battery doesn't see deep discharges even though it's a deep cycle flood lead battery. The rest voltage at night rarely ever drops below 12.4 volts. I use 2 solar arrays to gently but fully charge my 105amp battery every day. (panels angled to catch the most possible sunlight) I have it(battery) now since 2019. I use left over egg cartons to partly cover the caps where the gas escapes. This is to keep dust from entering the tiny holes. When the battery float charges I use the excess to dump that energy into home made diy lithuim power banks cause we get alot of solar energy through out the year.

for long backup,, to float it,, I guess lead acid battery is cheapest,, but maintaining it not cool and they are heavy too,, so you choose what suits you best,

Lead acid batteries typically require a constant voltage charging profile, where the voltage is held constant and the current decreases as the battery charges. On the other hand, lithium batteries require a constant current-constant voltage (CC-CV) charging profile, where the current is held constant until the battery reaches a certain voltage level, after which the voltage is held constant. Using a lithium charger to charge a lead acid battery can result in overcharging, which can lead to excessive gassing, heat generation, and potential damage to the battery. It can also be dangerous as overcharging a lead acid battery can cause it to release hydrogen gas, which is explosive.

Why Upgrade Your RV from Lead Acid to BigBattery? BigBattery: Lasts 10+ Years with Zero Maintenance. (3,000-4,000/Cycles) Lead-Acid: Lasts 2-3 Years with Annual Maintenance Required. (500-1000/Cycles) BigBattery: Weighs ⅓ the weight @ 47/LBS for 2.17KWh of Capacity. Lead-Acid: Battery Bank adds 700+lbs to your RV, lowering fuel efficiency. BigBattery: Provides 2-3x More Power to more easily run heavy applications. Lead-Acid: Relies on your generator using fuel to power heavy applications. BigBattery: Charges 3x Faster through “Continuous Charge”. Lead-Acid: Charges slower requiring wave charging. BigBattery: Requires 1/3rd the space, providing extra storage capacity. Lead-Acid: Requires 3x more space eliminating valuable storage for your tools and toys. BigBattery: Includes Smart Safety Features in every pack. (BMS/FUSE/THERMAL) Lead-Acid: Zero safety built in. Exposed leads & terminals. Requires additional fuses.

I get 8 years out of a pair of Crown deep cycle 6v batteries. It's not hard to take care of them. Many people just don't know how to keep from discharging them too much. Not in a hurry to replace my current pair of Crowns at five years old.

In the US from 1890 till the 1970 not all rural areas had grid power or pole power as it was called - The service life of a lead acid battery is determined by the depth of discharge and how often there charged along with the strength of the electrolyte - if the acid is strong as in most motive and domestic deep cycle batterys - your lucky to get 7 to 10 yrs out of them with an acid strength of 1.275 - If you look up home farm light plant battery's on the net - the acid in stationary service in cold regions- the acid strength was generally 1.220 - that's good to minus 17° - House battery's for farms were 6, 12 and 32 volt systems, they were generally sized to be charged all day once a week - With a acid strength of 1.220 the expected service life was at least 40 yrs or longer - I had inherited my grandfather's 60 two volt 600 amp two volt cells that he used - they were in use for several decades - in 1990 I sold the battery bank - the plates still looked new - the cells still had full capacity after 80 yrs - Down here in the deep South the coldest it gets is 5° - so he had his battery's set up at a acid strength of 1.200 - it was around 1910 - With the weaker acid the expected service life is 70 yrs + - but with the weaker acid there is a 40% decrease of capacity - Down here the old town power houses were 110 volts DC - the lead battery's in the power houses had, were the size of a pickup truck bed 5 ft high and around 600 thousand amps each in some power houses - that would be a 66 mega watt power house - minus 40% lol - They were set up for a 70 to 80 yr battery service life - In stationary service as with farm light plants weight and space is not a problem - Hybrid DC power plants tend to burn 6 to 10 times less fuel than constant run AC plants - My grandfather was an early generator man - when I was a kid there were still old power houses in use - DC power house generated power at a fraction of the cost of AC power houses - because of decreased fuel consumption - Today if your battery's are in a RV or boat if temperature is not a problem then lithium is a better choice - because of space and weight - I worked on generators in the offshore and mountain oilfields for yrs - We still prefer the flooded lead acid cells with 1.220 or 1.200 acid strength - As for sealed battery's the gel cel is a better choice over the AGM for cycle service - The acid in a gel cell is 1.240 - so they last far longer than a AGM at 1.275 acid -
