It is very difficult or some may say impossible to teach someone how to be funky. But this lesson is about as good as it gets. Well done.
Your lessons are simply excellent. They keep me sane in a sad world (books are great too) Thank you.
That Funk face.
What a great riff and a terrific explanation! Thanks Justin.
Really generous sharing : ) Justin, Thank you!
very outstanding lesson! So much fun to play. I wasn't a fan of this song back in the day, but I find myself loving what I've shunned for some reason. Great to play on guitar.
Great demo, and how have l missed that Tele, OMG I need that in my life!! What a beauty xx
BRILLIANT A GREAT SONG AND TUITION, THANKS JUSTIN.
Your videos are entertaining and educational. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much for teaching advanced left hand muting in detail. So hard to find good stuff on that. Personally struggling with this technique but this song makes it fun to practice.
Pretty cool! And your Tele sounds fantastic!
great work pointing out and explaining the finer points Justin, thanks. The some muted/some ringing thing is so vital to the sound
you have the face from who is feeling what you are doing, its nice one! by the way, I never thought it would be so hard playing this in the right timing.
Amazing Justin I keep coming back to this , I’m trying on acoustic , think I’ve got it 🙌
Awesome man this song is fun to play. Thanks for the lesson
Jako dobro. Puno pomaže. Super !!!
I love you Justin - just inspired to learn this and you were the first port of call. I need go no further than this lesson! :)
Great guitar lesson. I will follow you from Italy and not only are many of us to watch your video. Thanks for your lessons we love so much! you are a great compliment.
Well done. Thank you.
wow love that TELE!!
awesome funky riffs on this one
Great lesson!
You are the man, nice vid, nice presentation, THX

nailed it! niiiiiiice!
very helpful! thank you very very much :)
brilliant lesson 👍
fantastic lesson Justin!! been hoping for a lesson on this kind of string muting for a long time.. gives songs a lot more character rather than just playing single notes (ie. Who Knows by Band of Gypsies)
Whyyyy am I just now finding this?... 🔥👍🏼👏🏼
Nicest guy and teacher. The Mister Rogers of the KZread guitar lesson channels.
the best way, i can learn it thanks
Brilliant tutorial.
Another great lesson from Justin, for many years I wanted to learn this riff, but always frustrated me, thanks justin.
Great lesson, desperate to learn this but it's so hard!!
Real good lesson. I’m not expecting you to do 100% like Nile, close enough is more than good enough. Not even Nile playing live sounds 100% like the original studio recording and he changes it up while playing. Your lessons are priceless and for that, I thank you! The rest is up to me to decide how I’ll actually play it.
I'm not very good with the guitar but I enjoy playing as a hobby. Justin said that thanks to your lessons six very good.
very nice!
Great work Justin. Really wanna play this after being at the HMV Forum stage invasion - dusting off the Tele as I speak..
Stop hating on Justin :( He's the best guitar teacher on youtube
Superb Justin. I just cannot fathom the left hand work though!
u r the best!
THANK YOUUUUUUU !!!!
concise. nuff said
I have learned it!!!! My room is know filled with FUNK! :D
Haha his face, awesome teacher!
cool,chevere....thanks ,gracias..
Cool!
I freakin love the quack of mini humbuckers. Axspecially in that Tele.
Nice one, so ty very dude :) Btw the trick for playing ths in the right timing are THE FACE (Le face)! :D
Nile Rodgers uses so many variations of the riff in the song that it's hard to pin down. Best to use this accurate lesson as a base.

Justin, someone should give you an award! This patience and dedication you have deserves all the respect from the others. Very well done!
Thank you so much all love and one love I hope you are all well love and happiness to those who deserve it!
hey y'all, anyone know how to get that KILLER sound? Using both neck and bridge pickup through clean channel?
Love that headshake thats what its all about.
Funk is GREAT fun~~~~~~~
thx for a great lesson, i mean, all of your lessons i learned this one while strumming more strings on every note all throughout the riff and now im having trouble with those "not-clicking" parts. when i focus on not-strumming the strings, i cant keep the steady rhythmic movement with my strumming hand and on the other hand when i focus on the steady movement i cant force the pick not to touch the strings. dont really know how to solve this.. any tips? O:-)
Justin, apart from the start where you seem to pick the string do you strum all the way through? I can't seem to strum it through the melody line in there and end up picking the notes . I suppose I need to ensure the muting is accurate so that I can strum and just play the specific note(s) at the time. V Hard to do and you make it look easy, but I'm determined to learn this one. cheers
danke!!!!
Get funky!
oh man, thanks so much for posting this Justin.
@griff500grr Man, that was one great fuggin' gig. So much energy from the word go. I was dancing me arse off behind the mixing desk. Good Times.
nice mushroom. even better vids
Justin you haven't seen my face when I'm playing. Your face isn't all that bad. My tongue is hanging all strange and my face is in such concentration it looks embarassing. Love the face and tiny mistakes, makes me smile haha. The captions make it alot more fun even.
I've been waiting years for someone to post this! Thank you!
I got the notes but not yhe strumming.... I finally got it..... Now I need a telle! lol
are those extra light strings?
Check out the Young fella! Thanks Justin!
great stuff J, but that is no 'walk in the park' in notice.
What kind of tele is that?
good
Many thanks dude, I thought; let’s quickly try this before I go to bed. Now it’s to late and I’m funking horribly off-beat 😁
f***in funky ;-)

Clean. Simple as that. And needs to be played on a Fender Strat. Enjoy 😎
Great lesson. but to fast for me, can some one tab this couze i make rhythm mistakes and cant figure out where. i really want to play this riff so bad.
Hey, bloody great mate, thanx, just showing the lick!! And it's all just about music, not your face!! So even when if it looks like your on the toilet!! ;-) Great job you did!!
NEVER MIND THE FACE, A GREAT TUTORIAL.
Hey Niles himself goes into some detail on Le Freak on the video Niles Rodgers Gigging Tips (can't post the link-don't know why). He talks about hitting the last 3 strings at some point-not sure where! You'll notice that the main man himself calls it Freak Out so don't worry too much Justin:)
what about the bridge?
My hand automatically goes d d u u d u
@genlob Too right. Just posted the onstage footage - really was off the hook! ;)
a like Nile Rodgers funck Riff good times thank
I can do it slowly but cannot get near it a normal speed I’m 52 now and have been playing 5 years nearly I’m no better now than a few years ago I think sometimes you have a limit and I’ve hit mine bug I will keep trying
little side note: le freak (le fric in French) is a slang word for money

inUR2teeth haha I’ve been living in France for 11 years and I never made the connection ! « Le fric, c’est chic ! » (N. Sarkozy)
Try YMCA
You probably wont see this, but is it possible to try to follow your steps and get to play this tune even tho you never touched a guitar
tip: second 5 to 7 on d is a hammeron, not hitting both notes

It’s Norm
This is harder than it looks
Eff the left thumb use right hand Palm muting on the E and A strings.
Típica ará de giri en España por ando comida
I didnt know Norm played guitar.
Carlos Santana says you have to make the weirdest faces to hit that grove!
it's not clear....i don't understand if you blending the A chord...
tirate un jaquirazo amigo
You should have heard the working title.
