You know what would be REALLY cool for gardening content. Having a plant nursery/ gardening store that you can visit to buy plants, seeds, and tree saplings. But otherwise I'm super hyped for this game!

I would love to see a farmer's market of sorts in the world where you can bring your produce to sell it, rather than just selling from your inventory. I would also love to see "wild" type harvestable plants that spawn around the world. They would grow on their own and allow your character to forrage for food if you were doing a "rags to riches/homeless" type start.

I love both of your ideas! I wanted to add onto the “wild” type harvestable plants. What if they were seasonal for example in early spring where I’m from hunting for morel mushrooms is big (due to short time span it has, and it’s deliciousness ofc) I think it would give people something to look forward too if there were different “wild” harvestable during different seasons.

I was thinking soil plots would look better if they formed soil rows when they're next to each other. It's kind of strange seeing crops in single soil plots with grass between them. Also maybe a tool where you could place and drag soil over the ground would also be useful instead of just placing single plots.

My dad's garden has single circular mounds but that's for regular plants and bushes. (also they're more raised up than the ones in LBY which are pretty flat) For vegetables he has rows of soil. (actually an entire area is just soil and he has lanes dug out between each row of crops.@@Sephalia

My main gripe is , a lot of buying and selling is happening via menus , which takes out the interaction with other humans aspect , as other comments have pointed out a market would be a good addition. Also more importantly, an economy in game , npcs should have funds they spend as well as earn . Maybe an npc who gets rich moves into a better house . A living world, so npcs are also gardening to earn money. And the money they earn has an effect on the world as well

I'm just worried with the open world it might end up being similar to the sims 3 where a lot of it is out of your hands, like beyond your household things just happen and the next time you go into the game you find out neighbors and family moved out, people you want to be a small family ending up with 6 kids...... I hated that. As much as i love the idea of open world, the sims 3 made me distrust it in games like these. I'm a control freak when it comes to life sims so can i have it with control also?! It would be great if they could make it a hybrid of the sims 2's gameplay and if they're going to have open world with characters doing things, then have the world but with a sims 2 sort of way of going about it. Or put a taggle on to pick and choose what happens like in sims 4's neighborhood progression.

I want a greenhouse mechanic for winter or just because they are a part of gardening. Also, raised garden plots and potted plants. Plants grown inside your house wouldn't have to produce as much but would add a layer to smaller homes/apartments. Grow lights and basement watering systems (can you tell I love gardening). Plants could be used as popery for a short-term good mood. Plants specifically grown for crafting materials, such as pigments, reeds, and flowers for the table, to name a few. If any of this inspires you or modders, I'll be thrilled. Keep up the excellent work!

Feedback: I thinking having row raised beds and being able to grow plants in planter boxes would be better aesthetic wise to mimic a real garden. Herbs being able to be grown inside in small pots. Will we be able to grow flowers in pots for both indoor and outdoor? Is the team thinking of adding farmers market or a way to make your own produce stand to sell produce in town? I think a gardening mechanic that could be added prepping your garden for winter crops vs spring. Being only able to plant and harvest certain produce depending on the seasons. Unless you have a green house. Canning produce as a cooking recipe. Tropical fruits and produce seeds and trees would be nice to see. Being able to craft things like flour from wheat, peanut butter from peanuts. Also recipes for juices and smoothies for beverages. Growing rice in ponds and being able to grow tea varieties.

Thats cool. To the questions. 1. Bigger sprinklers. So that several garden areas can be sprinkled. And a spray that can be used as protection against insects or weeds. 2: you could organize competitions with it within the city. Crossing plants and vegetables to create new species that have special characteristics that can sometimes be very valuable. 3: Depending on whether the game includes certain things, gardeners could have advantages. The gardens bloom wonderfully and make others jealous, are very healthy and rarely get sick. Received special prize money from the mayor for beautifully maintained gardens. Giving plants as gifts can also create good moods in others. Obtaining a super green thumb allows you to bring "dead" plants back to life, talk to plants, and satisfy various needs through gardening or working with plants.

Also, I agree with the farmers' market and greenhouse ideas as well as wild plants. The nursery idea is nice too. Also, pesticides or a quick growth spray or special fertilizers with various possible effects depending on which you use. Also, the ability to compost to make your own fertilizer and depending on what you put in the compost bin, you could get some interesting fertilizer mixes with unique effects.

I am delighted you’re making LBY and am looking forward to early release! In response to your questions: Gardening craftables: not sure if you’re already planning this?: drying (herbs/garlic/chili peppers, etc.) & canning for future use/sales Uses for produce: 1st, if left too long without harvesting, produce should rot! (It should probably rot if over-watered/flooded/or there’s too much rain, if you ever add natural disasters. Rotting due to over-watering when we can’t control NPCs who also water our plants might be an issue, though-not so fun. But see #2!) 2nd, it would be great if we could put rotted produce and single-harvest plants in a compost pile or bin, or feed to our worms (vermiculture). We should then be able to use the resulting compost on our plants for fertilizer. 3rd, we should be able to throw rotted produce (tomatoes, onions, apples, oranges) at people as a hostile act. :p Could be funny! Mechanics needed: designate garden rows (same way we place hedges) and order “plant in row;” water all,” “weed all,” “fertilize all,” etc. Currently there’s way too much clicking for my poor hands! Have mercy! ;) Last request: visit the official forum at Paradox Plaza sometimes? We’re lonely there without any dev participation. :)

Love what's being shown so far. I have a few idea I wanna share : - I would love to see a craftable auto-fertilizer perhaps quite high lvl/expensive to make but will make the player/human able to add a stock pile of fertilizer to it and it will be dispensed when needed. I think this would be helpful if the player wants to play a sort of vineyard/big farm that is profitable. I think it would make the idea of buying land to expend the farm a viable option too. - Seed rarity might be something to consider. So, in troves, the player could come across a "rare" seeds/rare type of veg seed e.g purple potato's which would make alot of profit but cant be bought and only found. - Adding to the idea above, mixed seed to be found or crafted. Mixed seed could grow a random crop from the pool of all crops in the game. - I like the idea of people helping you with the garden but I would hope that it is only friends/family/household that can help as I think a stranger or a person you just met watering your garden could be a little strange? ( that could just be me, haha) - For late game players I'm thinking adding a way for us to have seashells more ready available so that fertilizer can be made easier in the long run. Perhaps in the skill for gather shells a craftable net could be made which would gather more shells then normal at the beach. The player then would be able to have a hands off way to get shells that dont relay on beach coves but also giving them the option to gather beachcoves if they need. - A more clear visible sign that your plants have weeds. The weeds sort of seemed like a normal plant to me ( could be a me issue haha) - A way to sell veggies at a market in an interactive way would be amazing!! - A way to compost might be something to add? Not sure how but I'm thinking if the player has too much produce that they dont want to sell but want to make use out of they could compost it into fertilizer. That Fertilizer might be different from the shells one. - being able to pickle vegetables could help with self life (if produce goes off) or increase sell price. That could need decent cooking skilling not just gardening ones. - Adding fruit seeds would be a fun one and with that the ability, able to age them to make, beers or wines. - Being able to juice your fruits would be cool too. sorry for writing so much, the more I wrote, the more ideas were coming to me. I dont expect everything here to be added. I was just excited and typing away haha. I'm so excited for your game. Ill happily wait and enjoy your updates because I want to have such a fun experience with the game when its out. Thank you for the videos and for asking us what we wanna see.

A farm I had in Cottage Living had two brothers, David and Jack, and I'd set Jack's task to watering all, get his brother going with other skill building, and then swapped back to Jack for his next gardening task. If I could just set him to "all" in one click, it made it way easier to multitask between the two brothers. I don't mind the Yumans eventually getting sprinklers, but I may not necessarily want other family members all working on the same thing (like autonomously joining the watering).

@@98Zai If you don't stop them, sims usually figure getting to the bathroom on there own, even in Sims 4. That's an oversimplification. I don't need it to work like Sims, but quite frankly without the ability to manage my family I am just not interested. I don't play one character doing one thing most of the time. What the AI wants to do might solve the immediate wants of the character but I may want one character doing something besides following the immediate call of it's A.I. There may be reasons I'm delaying it, like prioritizing something besides the needs because I am confident I can get back to it later. Of course I want the AI to work, but I don't want the game to play itself. What that means may mean different things to different people but for me, family management is what's fun for me. So I am going to look at everything through the family management lens.

Game mechanic I'd love to see if making it a group activity instead of it being solo (but there's an option to do it solo of course). By inviting others to help you plant seeds and harvest be it flowers or produce, then once everything is picked they'd be stored in woven baskets or bags to put in inventory. 2) I think I'd like to see garden as whole expanded into being able to run a farm (eventually buy livestock) or a garden nursery as a business where you can sell transplant plants and bushes to plant in your own home. 3) Being able to make hybrid plants like combining two different flower colors to make a new color. 4) Seasonal crops and not being able to plant everything in all seasons is a big one. 5) Food quality differences between gardening vs commercialized (buying at store) 6) Could you add a description to produce of where it was grown or who it was grown by if it's being sold in a market/store? 7) Others might hate this idea, but needing to buy tools (rakes, shovels) and soil at a store before you begin planting would be fun. 8) Being able to craft a water hose you can connect to the house which would also serve for watering plants but washing cars.

I though about this game today, and this video reminded me of this mechanic that I think would bring characters to life and add depth to their personalities! To put it simply, I hope that the game will include some sort of a memory system for each character that actually affects them a bit. For example, mothers could cook something delicious for their children, and the said children can grow up and cook themselves the same dish. No clue if someone will read this, but I'm hoping that this game turns out great nonetheless!

What about a way that we could sell our produce to our neighbors via a farmer's market stand or something similar instead of selling it into the etherspace through build/buy type of menu? This could possibly open up the idea of making a swap-meet type of environment later or a home business for a farmer or even a kiddo to make a little pocket money like a lemonade stand type of thing. Long term: I love the idea of going down the Vintinter road as a hobby or main source of income - but I am sure that would be quite an undertaking. Maybe for the shop or swap-meet even be able to open up a farmer's stand (selling foods) with gardening stuff for sale also (like soil, seeds, etc). As for fertilizer -- what about fish? I would love to be able to sell freshly caught fish in the same way you can sell fruits and veggies as both fertilizers and as fish you cook and eat. My 2 cents :) Thank you again for sharing this video with us!

Beautiful game, I'm so excited for it! I'd like a seedling starter greenhouse and maybe a plant contest or produce competition to see who has the best in town. Flower shop would be fun or making vases w/ flowers and other plants to either use as decor, sell or give as gifts.

This looks absolutely wonderful, i haven't seen one of your videos in quite some time so now i'm seeing all the progress you're making on the game and it's so nice to see! The thing I spontaneously thought of was maybe if flowers could be dried and turned into decoration, either combined with a crafting skill, for selling or simply keeping? Pressing flowers or making bouquets with self dried flowers :)

I do remember you from the crafting video and remembered I liked how you presented everything. As for your questions... 1) Craftables: - Grow Lights - to help indoor nurserys - Mini Greenhouse - to increase growth speed. (I'm picturing small windowed houses attached to a pole centered in a 3x3 tile kinda resembling a bird house... but for plants. Each house can only hold one type of seed.) 2) What else to do with produce? PRANKS (maybe tied to a specific trait) - Throw it at others: Tomatoes, Grapes, Crabapples! -Peel a bannana and leave the peel on the ground to cause an accident. CANNING: - Preserve or sell canned fruits or jellys (which brings up the question if food has a spoil rate?) 3) Any other gardening mechanics feed back.... - Since neighbors can water your plants, is there a risk of over watering certain types? - They say talking and singing to plants help them grow 😉 - Any thoughts on crossbreeding plants?

I think that would be really cute and add a bit of realism. I think you should be able to throw produce at other characters too…lol Edit to add: I think we should be able to fence off our produce to keep other Cims from walking on or over it, and if you don’t then you have a higher risk of producing low value crops or losing crops from poor care.

Some suggestions to spice things up: • *Compost barrel* to create fertilizers. Put in seashells, leftovers, or organic waste then wait a while. • *More fertilizer effects:* number of harvested produce, speed, weed reduction, pest reduction • Allow *plants to die from weed* • Allow *weed on all types of plants,* but maybe more often on difficult plants. • *Treat fertilizer as a temporary boost.* Wouldn't be much fun if I only have to fertilize it a few times. • *Instead of fixed date for plants to grow, maybe make it a bit more random;* because plants IRL doesn't grow after a fixed number of date. Maybe random date within a range, or slowly increasing growth chance % as each day passes. • *Special lamps for speeding up indoor gardens.* If I can grow plant indoors, it should obviously be slower than growing it out in the open. Special lamps for gardening could help plants nearby grow at a rate comparable to ones planted in the open. Being able to upgrade existing normal lamps into special lamps could also be a good idea for Crafting. • *More variety of sprinklers:* Big ones that covers many tiles, small ones that just do 1 tile, tiny refillable ones for potted plants (since many people suggested potted pants), and ones that double as backyard summer activity for kids. Also, it'd feel pretty satisfying if all sprinklers on the lot go on & off at the same time. (I feel like crafting sprinklers at the crafting bench feels a bit weird. It's not like seashell necklace or wooden chairs that I can make myself. But I understand that it would be less fun if I can just automate farming right from the beginning.)

Have those emojis ever been explained? Some are pretty self-evident (happy, sad, angry), but some are just really hard to parse. In Rod's video last week the character had the gritted teeth emoji (?? Tense????) and it was glowing. That's the kind of gameplay video I need--an overview of actual *core* game mechanics; gardening is really more side-content in my eyes, it's not something I'll be doing in every family, it's something that depends on the character. Emotion must do something in terms of gameplay as well, I'd love to know what it actually is.

You're clear spoken, know what you're talking about, know how what you're talking about works, and you don't get distracted. This is a much better video than most for this game. Would love to see content going forward be like this- it's one thing to get distracted for a let's play or a casual youtuber, but when you're marketing your game, you need a clear video like this one! I'm a big fan of each plant having a unique model, something Sims 4 really struggles with, having most plants be a big generic bush. Gardening is surprisingly a feature I keep coming back to in The Sims, and I like what I see here. Some feedback for the questions at the end: - Crafting Potpourri from dried plants, with different effects based on which plants are used - Decorative items from garden stuff. Hanging herbs, cornucopia, flower wreaths etc - I love that you have to CRAFT sprinklers, it gameifies what's normally just "a purchase", and makes leveling more important. Gated content is very, very good. - Gardening and Flowers and decorative plants being "part of one big feature" would be appreciated. I miss having to water flowers and plants in The Sims, a feature that hasn't been around since Sims 2. - Unlocks are really important IMO, and make skill leveling much more engaging. So there should be super special plants you can only get with high skill. I'd like to see a take on the Omni Plant like Sims 3 has, where you can grow almost anything as a plant. - A splicing mechanic to get better, or stranger, or unique plants or combine two plants into one plot and halve the work would be neat too. - A "size" value that increases with the harvestable's value would be cool. Makes the plant visibly bigger if placed in world, and gives it more "value" for cooking. - Likewise, a way to preserve larger plants so you can showcase your gardening prowess with a huge cabbage or really long carrot you managed to grow.

  • @Linaselfcare
    @Linaselfcare5 ай бұрын

Gardening/Farming features I’d like to see added: -Plowing fields. You can either buy the tool for that or craft it from sticks and stones. -Farmers market where you sell your produce for more value than just clicking in the inventory. -The ability to plant trees should be implemented already but mentioning this just in case it’s not. Features I think should be changed: -The one slot sprinkler is a bad idea if you’re planning to have a large farm. I think crafting the sprinkler is fine, but let it cover a large area, not just one plant. Seed/Plant ideas: -Cocoa to make chocolate. -Wheat to make bread. -Hop to make beer. -Beans to make vegan alternatives to meat. -Cotton to make clothes. -Tannin to dye fabric. Features to expand on gardening: -Juice maker to make smoothies from vegetables and/or fruits. -Wine maker to make wine from fruits. -Various kitchen appliances (they shouldn’t be necessary to make the food but will improve quality and speed cooking time).

Maybe a way to buy seedlings? I know for trees and vine plants, well lots of plants, you can go to a nursery and buy seedlings. For 'farmers' or characters serious into growing that would not really be needed, but lots of people have their indoor plants or patio plants that they do yearly from seedlings. I have aunts that grow tomatoes every year, they sit around together and talk about their tomatoes, its a real thing. You know, having said all that... a way for a 'farmer' or grower to SELL seedlings to other characters that are not as serious into gardening as they are. I don't mean from their inventories but as a product.

Also could you add more gardening related things, like soil bags in pile made out of burlaps, seed bags, a pipe at the side of the house to attach garden hoses, things like trots and dirt wagons, shovels leaned on the side of your house, aesthetic things like that to really make it feel like a garden and not just watching your character doing tasks. You could even add pests, even if they don't affect your garden it would still be cool to see lines of ants, butterflies on your flowers. Speaking of flower, id love it if the fruiting plants had blossoms just before they turn into fruits. And add beekeeper's hives and for the yards that have them their gardens thrive better, or at least the fruiting plants since they have bees that pollinate.

You'll have a farming simulator within life by you while having a fully fleshed working bossiness within the game it'll be more than a hustle. and if you want to scale it more you can fam all of the crops with heavy machinery transfer the crops to a store you personally own and sell the crops, seeds and whatever crops you do not have room for sell to other retailers now that would be dope.

I'm hoping weather and seasons will play a big role in it. For instance, like real life, different crops thrive during different seasons and temperatures. Each produce having a different level of watering requirements. So you can over-water plants if you water them AND have the sprinkler or it rains or storms in one day and that will be negative for the crop. But maybe some plants need more water and watering them more helps them. Another seasonal mechanic could be insects and other pests that you have to deter with natural deterrents such as vinegar, or pesticides that you can buy. This game is looking awesome so far, thanks for the update!

One way you can circumvent the balancing issue of buyable sprinklers-so that you don't have to bury them in crafting-only which is unrealistic imo-is to require technical/mechanical maintenance on sprinklers every so often. If left untended they can overwater plants and/or prompt chronic weed growth. The Sims 1/2 philosophy of balance is a gold standard. You don't have to make advantageous objects too hard to obtain, just give them the risk of a harmful trade-off if left alone. This will also keep gardening from plateauing once you've gotten sprinklers, otherwise you've pretty much eliminated any further challenges/engagement with the watering component.

Flowers can be turn into buquets, you can grow flax and cotton to make yarn for knitting, you can use sunflowers and olive trees for oil,you can make wine and fruit juices from fruits, you can make condiments, pickles, herbal teas and you can make compost from too much produce instead of selling it. There is a lot of things you can do. For me I would like be able to produce items in the game with gardening or ranching. Like if there is a ketchup in the store I would like to make that ketchup from tomatoes, vinegar and oil. If there is vinegar in the game I would like to produce it from grapes. You dont have to make the items too much ,make the produce ways limited like for every kind of cheese use same tool, for vinegar, wine use same thing, for condiment a blender that you use for cooking is enough, you can make herbal teas without any other tool. For ketchap you can only use tomotoes and oil get rid of vinegar completely if you do not have it in the game.

I was just thinking that it might be really fun if they did a video either Monday or Tuesday, where they just talk to us about all the feedback they got over the weekend from the last video, because they post on Friday. Just telling us what they think about it all, and maybe give us some insights as to what they think they could try incorporating, and what they think would probably be out of the question. Even if it was just to let us know that they've seen our requests and suggestions. I also think it would help (me at least) to set a healthy expectation of what this game might become...

@@serenitycox217 yes I agree, especially since early access is delayed I think it would be nice to have more regular updates.

I would love another focus on flowers and bonsai sort of gardening, as well as planting trees that grow over time for decoration, love gardening but never big on the actual produce side of things.

What about seeds that combined with other seeds on the crafting table become a more rare seed? Like an exotic fruit plant or a "multicolored strawberries" plant or something like that.

I agree with other feedbacks so far (Adding trelises and planters for compact lots like apartment, mass interaction control like water all, compost bin with fertilizers, etc.). Talking about trelises, they could be use to grow vine plants too, such as grape. Although that would increase work for new animation. On other hand, I don't know how much of the showing is from old footages. The interacting action is still off in most cases. I saw the guy aiming to empty area beside the plant when havesting. Some cases, he was aiming at area behind the plant when planting. I'm sorry if this sound like nitpicking. It just bothering me too much.

A very simple suggestion would be to add another phase of growth to plants like the lettuces which would be seedheads. Plants like Lettuces if allowed to grow past their prime harvesting stage will put their energies into growing tall seedheads which is how you gain seeds. That would be a smart, simple touch that would add a bit of realism, and allow for us to collect more than one or two seeds per plant, while automatically self-balancing ensuring we still keep on top of their care as to not allow too many to reach that stage.

You literally made a realistic gardening simulator with rpg mechanics, and that's freaking awesome!!! With each video I get more excited to play ❤ So for your queation, would it be possible to create a farmer's market where you can sell the produce you grow in your own home? That would be amazing. Also I think it'd be neat to be able to craft pots where you put your plants in that you can keep indoors, and crafting the pots(as least some of them) would require both the crafting and painting skill. And a last feature that I think would be awesome if it were included is the ability to store produce in crates and just in the world itself, so that we can stock up our pantry with them
