Wow what a fabulous painting Stephanie, it's both beautiful and also slightly creepy (in a good way). So very well done. Thanks for sharing the process. I couldn't stop watching! 🎥

My first video of your stunning art! Unfortunately, on my old Kindle tablet I wasn't able to locate a "Camera" icon. But I did watch to the very end and pressed the Like button. I use the Series 7 brushes, size 1 down to 0000. I design jewelry and render using watercolors and graphite, an old technique I was taught back in 1980's at a special Gemological school in Santa Monica - The Gemological Institute of America. Only 2 locations of the school back then, now they ate in many countries. Beautiful art, painting, creativity, you are multi-talented! Greetings from San Francisco, California.

Watercolors are such fun! It's much faster than colored pencils. You can also combine the two. For me, getting some artist quality paints and making a small watercolor almost every day, really got me into it. It's my go to medium now for sketches :)

Such a beautiful camera painting ❤📷 I really like Transparent Orange (PO71) too. It mixes really well with most colors and it's perfect for a transparent palette. I think QOR and Daniel Smith have a more lightfast version of this color. I perfer Cadmium Orange more for painting objects when something needs to be bright orange. But I think Cadmium Orange Deep could be the next color that I want to try next time I need a new orange.

Rembrandt by Talens offers PO71 and it is called Pyrrole Orange. It has the exact same hue, transparency and quality as the Schmincke one.

It's an amazing pigment! I never really manage to make much with cadmiums in watercolor, but I'll keep playing around, maybe some day I'll manage to unlock a door in my head :) Before that, I would just mix oranges myself and truthfully, I will keep mixing oranges in the future, but using orange as the main component of all mixes was an interesting approach and I loved working like that!
@creativecolours2022

@@stephanie.kilgast Yes it is fantastic. I consider it the magic mixing colour because it can mix all about everything in my all primaries transparent and relatively limited colour selection. You can mix browns, neutrals and blacks if you mix it with blue colours, ( mix it with PB60 for the deepest black), make warm and brilliant reds when you mix it with a deep red ( so you will need only one red in your colour selection), mix bright oranges with yellows, and make natural greens if you add it to ready made greens or those that you mix with blue and yellow. I'm painting botanical illustrations and portraits and PO71 is a stable in my palette. But this particular orange. Only this one due to its so unique hue that is somewhat more muted than that of other orange pigments and because it is transparent. I haven't seen similar mixes with other kind of orange pigments.

@@creativecolours2022 I understand the enthusiasm. It went straight to my main core limited palette. I have a lot of colors to play around with, but this one was a no-brainer. I agree orange is a good mixing color, but usually I would just freely mix with yellow and red for the (relative) same results. I also like PY110 as a mixing color, an orangy yellow. The PO71 orange hue however is very useful. The transparency is the key as well.
@creativecolours2022
Жыл бұрын
@@stephanie.kilgast Oranges that are mixed by yellow and red are not good as mixing colors themselves because each of the colors that consist the mixing has its own bias. PO71 has a very unique hue its mono pigmented and as such has its own mixing properties. Trust me on this as I've spent a considerable amount of time and swatching in order to pick up colours for a single pigmented all primaries transparent colour palette selection that is now consistent by the following pigments. PY128, PY150, PY129, PY42 (that is a transparent yellow oxide), PR264, PO71, ( these are pyrrole red and orange), PR122, PV19 Q. Rose, PB60, PB28, PB29, PB15:3, PB31, PV14, PR101 that is a transparent red oxide. By any brand, it doesn't really matter the brand of colours. I'm going for the pigments and not the colour manufacturers or the names of the colours.

📷 beautiful painting as always! Do you stretch your paper before painting? Does it buckle at all?
@stephanie.kilgast
Жыл бұрын
never, I'm far too lazy to do that... 😅 it does buckle a bit but not much, as I work in a very controlled way and don't do a lot of watery washes. But I hear stretching is great, I just can't be bothered.
Love the mix of organic and fabricated line work here, I love Roher ink but unfortunately it is impossible to get them in the U.S unless you want to pay an arm and a leg.

I'm sure you've got great ink brands in the US! I think Alphonso Dunn uses Higgins Ink, they must have a pigmented range :) I live in Europe, so obviously Rohrer und Klinger and DeAtramentis make sense to me! Always best to find the most local to you brands :)

No, it's a fujifilm (not sure what, I only see the brand on the picture I've got) she bought it a few years ago because a camera shop I recommended to her, recommended her that very camera. She loved it for a while, but now she mostly uses her phone (don't we all? ^^') but it's a really pretty camera so I thought it would be great as a reference for my idea :)
