Layer Masks Explained - Capture One Pro Tutorial
Фильм және анимация
www.benrevzin.com/photo-feedback I'm offering FREE feedback on your photos! In this video we're looking at the magical power of layer masks in Capture One Pro 20. This is a HUGE differentiating factor between Capture 1 and Adobe Lightroom. Learning layers here will also help transfer that knowledge into Photoshop CC. Learn what layer masks do, how to create them, a shortcut for selecting large areas, and also creating new filled layers to adjust your color grades strength with the opacity slider.
I use layer masks to edit eyes, control just the background of my image, dodge and burn skin for portraits, and adjust rims on automotive photography.
This tutorial series for digital photography is based on my realization that many tutorials, including those I follow myself are very advanced. For instance how to use Frequency Separation or Content-Aware Fill in Photoshop CC, or how to Dodge and Burn in Capture One Pro or Lightroom Classic CC. Very few go back to the very basics to help those who are just starting out. So I decided to make this series in hopes of helping many early photographers learn the basics to editing and post processing. Earlier in 2020 I switched from Lightroom to Capture One Pro 20 as my primary editing and cataloguing software, hence the tutorials being based in Capture One 20.

Tempted to switch from Lightroom because it plays more nicely with Fuji, but goodness the masking tools are basic in comparison.

Thanks for a helpful tutorial that I just saved - new subscriber 🙌QUESTION: I am fairly new to C1 and I am wondering if C1 doesn't have AI detection for subject / background (behind subject) etc. - like Photoshop and Lightroom has? I have an image with multiple items (a product image) and I want to carefully select the background and adjust the clarity etc. for only the background. Can this be done easily in C1? Thanks in advance if you can help ;-)
Best tutorial I have ever seen 😍

Q: If you shoot in RAW, do you have to be concerned with white balance in camera settings when shooting ?
@BeaPhotographerlessons

No concern at all! I usually keep my camera in Auto white balance unless I am in studio. However setting the proper white balance in camera helps you preview the image more properly. -Ben Also I'm providing free feedback on photos now! www.benrevzin.com/photo-feedback
Isn't it better to make the Flow 100% though

Hi Andrew, it depends on what you're trying to do with the adjustment layer. Take a look here at 4:30 into the video kzread.info/dash/bejne/d56X1NGhncLenZs.html you'll see that for techniques like Dodge and Burn you want to start with a lower flow to have the most control over your adjustment. Hope that makes sense! If not, let me know and I'll make a video going over Flow!
"That's the area I've selected using the brush tool". Yeah.. but you skipped that part. Sorry. but as a total beginner here, you need to teach as though we the viewer know nothing. Never assume.
