One time my friend sued his mom for abuse. It ended up splitting the whole family apart and sent the mother into many financial issues. My friend is okay now, but man he really felt bad even though he did the right thing. 😔

A long time ago, I did criminal defense. Had this one client who was pulled over by police. This wasn't a stop and search, they had a warrant for his car and were looking for his license plate in particular. The search found a hidden compartment in the passenger seat, with a quarter of a million dollars in cash and a truly massive amount of heroin. Long story short, there was a lot of investigation, and I managed to get the warrant that justified the search quashed. Warrant quashed means nothing they found on the basis of it is admissible, which means they have no case. Client walked. I went home that night and realized I put a pretty major drug dealer back on the streets. I didn't quite criminal law right then and there, but it is the single most important case to me getting out of the field.

For Story #16, did it ever occur to you that maybe, just maybe, the husband was holding out for reconciliation because he genuinely loved his wife and didn't want to see her go? Nowhere in this story does it ever explain exactly why they're separating, so I assume it must be a no-fault divorce, aka the woman wanted a divorce "just cuz."
