    The gun was stated as being “carbon fiber” in the movie. And I’ve accidentally gotten a knife into a courtroom, while I had no intentions of causing harm, it’s not that hard. The guards are like “Is that a belt buckle” and let me through. Stop thinking you’re safe because someone else is paying attention. 🤦🏼‍♂️

    @Ari6lle1nWonderl2nd3 жыл бұрын

    @7:59, that’s the way it’s _supposed_ to be, but unfortunately in reality that’s rarely the case. I love following cases and trials, and I can think of _at least_ 10 off the top of my head where there was _more than adequate_ reasonable doubt of a defendants guilt (due to circumstantial evidence, details that didn’t fit and were conveniently overlooked, etc.), yet they were convicted. Even though a “lucky” few have later been exonerated, the feat is _close to impossible_ to achieve. Makes you wonder how many innocent people are still in prison who _should_ be exonerated, but probably never will. The US justice system is grossly deficient and wildly inconsistent in its practices of trying and prosecuting crimes. It’s insane how much sentences and convictions can vary for similar crimes based on arbitrary details like the location of the trial, physical appearance and economic status of the defendant, and the skill of the defense attorney. The US justice system claims to be fair and unbiased, but anyone can _clearly_ see that having the money to do things like bail oneself out of jail before their trial and hire a good attorney gives some people a clear and egregious advantage over others. /rant. Sorry, I just get so fired up about this and got kinda triggered by this video, haha.

  • @Salted_Fysh

    @Salted_Fysh

    You are entirely correct, being a lawyer is not about finding justice. It is about doing the utmost in fulfilling the role you are assigned to do in the pursuit of justice, in other words, doing your job. Lawyers are advocates. Finding justice is up to the jury or the judges based on the information and arguments provided by the advocates of both sides and witness testimony. Finding justice based on what you think is the correct answer without engaging in the proper proceedings and engaging with the burden of proof, is what leads to people being hung up in the streets by mobs. That being said, the US justice system is extremely flawed, but that is an entirely different matter.

    Being a litigating attorney during a trial is more about theater. It's not a lawyer's job to "find" or "achieve" justice. It's a lawyer's job to advocate in an adversarial platform.

    @Kyle J Hartman Well that range is typically for experienced, big city prosecutors. If you hit six figures, you're probably a federal prosecutor. Either way, prosecutors of that caliber easily make 3x+ that amount in private practice. There's also no bonus or incentive (outside of keeping your job) for winning cases. Public defenders make half that range. No lawyer enters public service for the money.

    I've seen the Legally Blonde scene analyzed before and there's context that gets missed. The first point serves as characterization: the reason Elle talks about the girl in her Sorority to the jury is to show she's an inexperienced lawyer & doesn't know everything about court etiquette yet. Second, as for stacking the questions, it's to build dramatic tension and prove to Chutney that Elle is onto her & was quickly able to figure out why her story doesn't add up. You can tell by the look on her face she's panicking and the pressure is building until she breaks. So Elle got a confession, even in an incorrect way.

    2:45 You should have a listen to the podcast Darknet Diaries. One of the later episodes is about a group of pentesters, who's job it was to break in to a court house to test their security. They did it easily. Hence: Planting a gun somewhere would have been trivial.

  • @Salted_Fysh

    @Salted_Fysh

    4 жыл бұрын

    Her phrasing is that 'it's probably impossible maybe nearly impossible' to bring a gun into court and that she has never heard of a case like this in federal or district court in New York (also known as Gotham), not that it is entirely out of the realm of possibility. The case referred to in the podcast is a county courthouse in Iowa at night and of the two cases they mention, they get caught early on in the second break-in. Furthermore, they are professional pentesters, people who can practice a great many of break-ins without any real risk of facing repercussions. Common criminals will have far less experience. This is not at all comparable to a district court in New York and trying to plant (or retrieve) a gun.

    I think she was very educated, but I don't think she looked at everything in the broader scope of what is actually allowed vs. what is common procedure. For example, Elle Woods stepping in as attorney. Obviously firing someone may be silly, but it's technically not prohibited, and I sincerely doubt you'd have this much doubt about your attorney until much later in the game, so doing it before trial might not be realistic at the time. Additionally, she points out that you have to take baby steps before going to fully handle a full trial criminal defense on your own... But she never said it wasn't allowed. Of course, it's a far-reaching extenuating circumstance, but she speaks much to standard procedure, and I'm not sure if what she's saying is actually prohibited or merely frowned upon.

    Two videos by VF have brought up the gun-in-courtroom, but wasn't it porcelain? Or that was implied? Either way is that not a plausible scenario since porcelain guns exist? 3D printed guns are more recent so that wouldn't be it.

    As far as I know you are usually subjected to a search before entering court. Furthermore, your belongings are scanned and in the US, courtrooms may have to pass through a full-body scanner as well. Both methods do not require the object to be made of metal. As for the porcelain gun, no such thing exists. This is a Hollywood invention. If you think about it, it's easy to recognize why a porcelain gun would not only be extremely impracticable but also very dangerous to the user. They would also likely still require metal components for the mechanism. As for getting hold of such a weapon, to my knowledge, the manufacture and sale of guns that are constructed in such a way as not to be detectable by airport security is illegal. Therefore guns must always contain metal and/or be distinctly in the shape of a gun.

    Gotta say this was one of the weaker "Professionals React" type of video. The clips you picked weren't very interesting and the attorney didn't provide that much information that we haven't seen in the dozen of lawyer react videos that already exist.
