Something important to note about today's first-year law paper is that it has undergone significant changes since 2023 (after the making of this video), placing greater emphasis on tikanga Māori. This entails that the first topic of the Laws101 course, Origins of Government, now centers more on tikanga principles (essentially Māori law) and its application to law in New Zealand today. Previously (when this video was made), the focus of this part of the course was on the English legal system and its development in England. It is one of the biggest and most important parts of the paper so I would reccommend that you try and wrap your head around the core values/ principles of tikanga if you have the opportunity to. Good luck with first year!

hey guys just had a question on the non-law papers that you do in sem 1 and 2 during first year what does that actually involve? and also is there anywhere highschool students can find past papers for first year to gain a little understanding of what the exams actually look like. cheers.
