Laura Branigan - Self Control and The Lucky One - Champs-Élysées (1984)

During her european promotional tour in 1984, Laura arrived to France, and was a special guest at the variety TV show "Champs-Élysées". This video shows moments of her arrival with the singers Linda de Suza and Michel Delpech. Later, Laura was presented by the host Michel Drucker, she performed live a very short sample of her hit "Self Control" just to remind the audience of the song. After that, there was a brief chat with the host, who first asked in English where was she from, to which she replied, "New York, Manhattan". The host continued speaking in French and Laura tried to understand some of his words. For an instant she looked a bit perplexed but she certainly knew some French and was able to talk a little, she said "I'm very happy to be here in Paris with you tonight.". Then, she sang live "The Lucky One". Finally Laura participated in the closing of the show. The episode was aired on Saturday, October 20, 1984 according the info of the website IMDb.

laura for me is a female artist that a guy can look at and appreciate respectfully, clean & classy with an inner strength & a beautiful voice.
Took me a few minutes to realize she sang this live. She sounds as good as the studio version, but you can tell enough of a difference to know it’s live. Severely underrated

yh she had to sing live . One of the only shows you had to sing live. Like the old grey whilster or the tube in the uk.

I could tell straight away on 'Self Control' but 'Lucky One' was less obvious, really impressed as very few sing that well live, Dido is another exception

As I know it was mandatory one to sing live in this show. Alphaville and Modern Talking did it too. All great voices (except Dieter Bohlen, lol).

"Champs-Élysées" is pretty much the only music show of the 80s that made the artists actually sing live!
No auto tone. Clear voice, pretty woman. Rip Laura BRANIGAN. You will never be forgotten...

Live singing that sounds fantastic....no auto tune, no backing tracks......absolutely no electronic assistance......just talent. Today's singers need to watch video's like this....

Well, there was obviously a backing track. There were no musicians, no background singers around and you could hear them, lol. But she sang live, no question about it.

I love all here songs! She was the first girl I was in love with. Beautiful voice, beautiful woman! I bought all albums. I am shocked to see, she died so soon... Laura, you are in my heart - forever! Rest in Peace...
I miss you Laura so much.. Your voice, your appearances, your dedications, etc. Trust you are happy and watching over your fans always..
She seems to be having such a marvelous time here. Everything about her is radiant, sparkling, and smolderingly sensuous. It's hard to believe there wasn't as much talk about how beautiful and desirous a woman she was at the time... A real woman! It's perhaps a testament to her powerful singing voice, that this aspect of her did not take the forefront as it does with less talented singers. She should be both respected and revered for that alone.

What a voice Laura, brilliant singer
I love her voice, so powerful and beautiful. I just love when i can actually hear her singing live! It's so sad that many of her performances are playback, but that's probably due to some rules of the companies sort of bs... I mean she can sing, she could still sing in 2004 before her death. Amazing vocal talent.

im lookin for some of her band members who might remember back in the early 80s,,laura did a concert at kings island amusement park,,then stopped in at where our band was playin,,I met her and asked if I could kiss her on her face,,she said ok,,i kissed her left cheek,,plus got to jam with her whole band !! I was a left handed drummer that's why,,,we asked if she wanted to sing one,,but refused cause her voice was gone from the concert !!! she was a sweetheart !!!!!
