Latvian Braid Knit Flat - Left and Right | Knitting Tutorial

In this video I teach you how to knit a Latvian Braid flat, both a left and right pointing braids. I also demonstrate slipping the first stitch of the row, in case your pattern calls for that.
Here is a link to my previous video where I demonstrated this technique but with the left braid only. I also go into more detail about the differences between knitting these braids flat vs in the round: • Knitting a Latvian Bra...

I really appreciate your video on knitting a FLAT, Latvian Braid. I also spent a lot of time searching for the flat technique, with both left and right braids. So this is video is welcomed.

Thanks very much for this tutorial! I did a Latvian braid in the round once, a decade ago, without a video and I wouldn't be able to figure it out like that anymore for doing it flat. This is a lifesaver, and you're right: tutorials are usually for braids in the round! Really appreciate it! I'm going to knit a few Latvian braids instead of welts on my Penguono cardigan now.

Thank you! I found only tutorials for these fishbone braids in the round, but couldn't figure out, how to make them flat.

How do you bind off the braid if you wish it to be the edge? Is it a two color bind off or one? To make it lie correctly do you have to anchor it in tieback by bundling off thru the regular edge and incorporating a lower row in the back? Thank you

Can you demonstrate when doing the latvian braid in the round how to make it look like one continuous round without a jog? Thank you.

So there are many tutorials out there for working Latvian Braid in the round. As far as knitting it continuously without a jog. I am not sure how that would work. I think maybe you could repeat rounds 2 and 3 (round 1 is the setup round where you work just plain 1x1, and rounds 2 and 3 are where you are crossing the yarns). I don't think it would be perfectly jogless, but it's an interesting idea!

Roxanne Richardson has a Latvian Braid Technique Tuesday video on KZread. She addresses how to make the JOG less noticeable. Mary Bird also has a Latvian Braid video on KZread. She also addresses how to make the JOG less noticeable. Hope this helps!
