The Latvian braid is a super simple way to add vertical cables in two colors to your knitting. Basically, it's 2 rows of reverse stockinette stitch where you intentionally twist the yarns in front of your work with each stitch. The trick is to always pick up the same the exact same way whenever you switch colors.
You can also knit it in the Latvian braid in the round. In this case, you have to pick up the yarn from below in the first round and from above in the second round - or vice versa.

A really interesting stitch technique with a lovely result. I will definitely have to give it a try sometime, once I'm more confident knitting with two colors at once. Thank you, Norman, for always inspiring me to try new techniques. 💜✌️🧶

Hi Norman. Great tutorial! I love the Latvian Braid! It’s so decorative and pretty. I’ve never seen it done using dpns, only flat and fixed circulars. Very interesting! I also really like your twist and weave method for joining new yarn. I’m definitely going to give that a try after rewatching your video on the technique. It seems very secure. Thank you for another great tutorial.❤

@@sondragingery5949 you can slow down any youtube video via the setting button. I DID add a link right in the video, and if you search across my channel, you will be able to find your answers instantly rather than waiting on the odd chance I see your reply and have a time to answer ;-) kzread.info/dash/bejne/iJ2blrSudby_ibg.html

Thank you Norman. I did Latvian Braid last year for a Xmas Stocking Ornament. Oh Boy, was having problems with tangled yarn. Instead of making 2, guess what... I ended with 1 only. Will have to try your method to make the 2nd pair 😅. Wish me luck ❤❤❤

yeah..it can be quite a problem....but just pull out a very long length of yarn and try push the twist further down. that typically helps.

I love the colors you chose - Intentional Ukraine support or just a happy coincidence either way they look great and make it very easy to follow the stitches as you do them.

while I definitely am supportive of the cause, this is a happy coincidence. I picked these colors because there are most likely to work for a wide range of colorblind people.
Hello Norman! I was just curious, how stretchy is the braid? I think it would look nice as a waistband on a dress if it can stretch. Thank you for this lovely tutorial!

hm..it's about as stretchy as standard stockinette stitch..maybe a little bit less. but will depend on your tension
Hello! Is it possible to make 2 Latvian braids next to each other? (To make them look like 2 rows of latvian braids)

i am not sure what you mean exactly. But...hey you can always knit a swatch and see where it gets you :)
Can Latvian braid be done in one color?
@nimbleneedlestwo

yes, sure. Just twist around one color similar to weave in as you go.

@@nimbleneedlestwo Thank you Norman. I really appreciate you getting back to me. 🖤 After I messaged you, I started thinking. . . What if, when I go to add the Latvian Braid, I pull the strand from the center and add it to the outside strand just for the braid. . .” 🤔🤔
