Vaseline should not be used as a release agent on latex as it will eventually degrade and destroy your latex mould.

Is there any danger that the plaster bandages will shrink or crack as they dry? Thus distorting the shell. TURK

No. There is no shrinkage.

How long should I wait between coats of latex? I've heard everything from 30 mins to 40 hours. I've also heard the previous layer should still be tacky and that it should be completely dry. Lots of conflicting info.

Dear Craig, your latex should be dry to the touch before you apply the next coat. Latex dries in air. If you apply the next coat before the surface of the first coat dries, that coat will never dry and your mold will have soft spots. It can take an average of two and a half- to three hours to dry under normal room temps and humidity. You can half that time if you put your work in front of a space heater or a fan. @@EnvironMolds can you wait too long? Like if you put coats on all day every 2-3 hours, but then at night leave it for eight hours until the next day?

For anyone watching this video ... never use any petroleum product on latex. And fyi, most soaps have petroleum in them. Petroleum will destroy latex. Ever have the problem where your latex mold is becoming gooey, sticky, and falling apart? It's most likely because you've cleaned it or added a petroleum product on it. Instead, use 70% rubbing alcohol mixed with a little bit of caster oil (not motor oil) for a mold release. And to clean your molds after using them, use water mixed with some white vinegar. Using petroleum products with latex is bad info. Hope this tip helps someone ... Oh, wanted to add that sunlight will also destroy latex. Always keep your molds out of the sun.
