By removing a blade and weight off the turbine wheel, it does not take efficiency away from the wheel nor does it make it susceptible to stall. The only way for a turbine wheel to stall due to the drag coefficient of the compressor wheel is for the turbine wheel to have a poor aerodynamic design and or less free cm3 area to accommodate the amount of gasses it is supposed to accommodate and or to be of the wrong size. By reducing the blade count, and by optimizing their design, you allow more gasses to flow and be accommodated in the cm3 area in between the blades, thus raising the choke point of the wheel, while at the same time reducing backpressure and spinning it harder/faster. The blade surface that you lose from that removed blade can be added back by reducing the hub of the wheel and thus making the blades longer, but it can also be added back, up to point, as one needs to keep certain weight off,(reduced moment of inertia effect, lower boost threshold, faster transient response and spool time), to the rest of the blades by expanding their cm2 area through an optimized/efficient design. This is the same thing that Xona did here with their turbine wheel. They took the high and low aero design, and optimized it accordingly. Instead of making a turbine wheel with 10 even blades, like most turbine wheels of the specific size and not just out there, they made one with 5 full ones, and 5 half ones, so they have actually removed blade surface up to a point, as some of that blade surface was added back to the high blades. Plus they have spaced out the pairs, so as to create more free cm3 area for the gasses to be accommodated.

Xona 95 69s or xona 105 69s The first numbers are for how many pounds of air the turbo moves. 105 105lbs of air. The 105 is good for 1100whp but there is evo guys pushing almost 1200whp in the 95 69s ,I’m using the 105 69s for my build. They also make the 115 69s which is xona biggest turbo

We have a very different design philosophy, but we stack up very well to turbines of comparable sizes. The EFR also uses a GammaTi material, which is very lightweight, but cannot tolerate overspeed. It's a fine product, for sure, but very different.

@@maperformance Well, right now I have a BW S369SX-E .91 a/r T4 (69mm compressor/80mm turbine). It flows 98lbs/min and is in the 500 - 1000 hp range. I really like how this turbo works with my current fuel setup (stock) and it probably puts around 550hp/1100tq to the wheels. However, it is a bit laggy and my EGTs could be a touch lower when doing long pulls. I'd like to see what Xona's split turbine design could do for me. I'd love to have the same turbo characteristics, but light a few hundred RPM sooner. But I also don't want to be the first person to put one of these turbos on a 6.7 Cummins. Thoughts?

@@monsterram6617 Currently, we do not have anything with a larger turbine than 78/69, but we can pair that to a 95, 105 or 115lb/min compressor. The bigger challenge is the unique turbine housing required for the Cummins, as we primarily offer v-band-flanged SS housings for our turbochargers. Larger (much larger) turbochargers are in the works for a release at SEMA 2020 (next year).
