    Hey Matt, I injured my hip while running on an indoor track and was searching desperately for some stretches which could solve the problem. I then stumbled upon your videos and after only a few days of doing this stretch, the glute stretch and the kneeling quad stretch I was running pain free! Thanks so much for all your help, you really are an absolute wizard when it comes to hip problems! I would recommend to anyone with hip problems to watch these videos and try some of the suggested exercises and stretches, I know it made a world of difference for me!

    Absolute life-saver. After an intensive season of cycling (12,000km in total) I decided to take two weeks off and start running. I develop incredible back-pain, hip rotation and hip pain. So much so my doctor thought I had arthritis at 36. For two weeks I've been doing insense physio on my hips and nothing improved. 24hrs of this hamstring stretch and my back pain has gone, hips have released and opened back up. Its heaven. Thank you so much for putting this content out!

    Just started watching your hip videos. Hip pain seems so complex-is pain from bone on bone? tendonitis? bursitis? muscle strain or tear? is pain direct or referred? I have a 3D anatomy app which helps a little but your demos & teaching are excellent! This video made me realize that although my hamstrings are very flexible, doesn’t mean they are well- developed, which may put strain on other parts. Thank you for your top notch instruction!

    You're a Godsend!!! Thank you for the breadth and depth of info you've provided on this topic. I've been suffering for 4 years, since a laparoscopic hyst, and have seen 3 Obgyn's, 4 PTs, 1 Pelvic Fl. OT, 2 Physiatrists and a GP with pelvic/groin, hip & buttock pain that extended into leg and foot pain. None of the practitioners have been able to address symptoms on a long term scale, perhaps bc they didn't diagnose correctly. A couple questions for you -- So once a person see's some improvement from this stretch and starts getting the glute to activate, can s/he progress into any variety of glute-related exercises? Are there any movements one should stay away from? --- I would love to get back into cardio kickboxing, squats, lunges, etc eventually...

    Thanks for sharing this video. I am a skateboarder and have hip popping/impingement (and pronounced external tibial torsion as a result - mostly on my right hand side which is interfering with my balance on many manoeuvres). You mention that you had issues yourself in the past. Were your issues similar to mine? I understand I will never have the ROM of a 'normal' person but, with dedication, do you think that I will be able to improve my hip/foot posture as a result of mindful stretching and myofascial release? Do you have any other tips for this issue beyond this current video? Thank you.

    hi matt, first off, i love your channel. your stretches that i've tried have really been hitting the spot, thank you. when i try this stretch on the right leg, i really confuse my hamstring when i bend my knee. on my left it's the opposite; bending my knee takes the pressure off my hamstring and straightening brings the most tension, though i will say it feels more like a conventional stretch than the sharper and more definite "confusion" that i feel when i'm working on the right leg. i could go further into my situation (suffice to say, more PT's than girlfriends, so far), but on the surface; with that information, what would you say that says about what's going on?

    I always loved the way leg raises engaged my core but I could feel my hamstrings grinding and popping so strayed away from them due to fear of causing tendonitis or anything of the sort. I feel like I have so many issues because of this i.e tight right leg calfs, hip instability, tight right foot, tight QL on left side , tight tfl on left side etc. How do I deal with this all, I.e where should I concentrate my efforts and basically start trouble shooting to identify the problem?

    What is your take on using heat to chill out the tight muscles? Heat seems to be the only thing that kind of helps versus ice. But I've been half tempted to do I ice baths just to see. I've tried saunas, hot tubs, one thing I know that does help is a hot bath with Epsom salt and calming bubble bath. But it's kind of short-lived.

Today I still have pain in the right piriformis and groin, a tight right QL, the right hip is a little higher than the left, and I tweak my left erector a lot. Any quick suggestions over the internet? I've tried a bunch of your stretches already, Donnie Thompson, and Egoscue stuff. Have done plenty of glute and hip strengthing with bridges, monsters walks, low bar squats, etc. Not much progress. I don't really know what's wrong other than the pelvic imbalance, doctor visit soon, and probably an mri.

    Hi mate, I just came across your channel, im loving it and giving most of your hip exercises a go. I have one question about this video. My foot points outward on the right, and left foot points in. I saw on one of your videos you mention to strech the lateral Hamstring because it pulls your foot out. When i stretrched it even just briefly I noticed a difference. So my question is, shall i strengthen the Lateral hamstring on the right side too and not just stretch it? Will that no cause my foot to turn out more? Regards, Yad

    How do I do this stretch in a standing position? I have cerebral palsy and both lateral hamstrings are tight and maybe are the cause of tibial torsion and feet out stance. My right leg is worse than left. However my quads and hips are so tight that I think starting this stretch at the kneeling position with my foot kicked foward would probably rip me in half or put me at high risk of injuring myself.

When laying on my back, it hurts to pull my left knee to chest with right leg straight. Also, when pulling towards chest and push on knee towards inside, it hurts bad in the groin. I have made a little headway but when bowling, I slide on left foot and to bend down to throw the ball is excruciating! Any advice I would greatly appreciate.

Only when I keep my knee bent can I feel the belly of the muscle stretching, with no pain just a satisfying stretch. After a long trail run, I woke up with what I thought was a groin pull. After a month worth stretching and foam rolling I finally went to the doctor. They xrayed it and said I have FAI . I've been doing some hip strengthening exercises as you mention in here but I just did this stretch 4X each leg for 1 min each and I've never felt such a tight muscle (on the injured side) lol. I've been stretching my hamstring by just bending over at the waist but this was so much more intense and it felt like a GOOD stretch. Immediately felt better in the hips. I'll keep at it and let you know how it goes.I have physical therapy but the first appointment isn't for another month (VA hospital). My only confusion is hearing you and others relate weak glutes to this injury. I have extremely strong and developed glutes and quads but my hamstrings are definitely a lagging part in relation to the rest of my legs. Any thoughts on that? Anyways, thanks for the vids. Subscribed :)

  • @Uprighthealth

    @Uprighthealth

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Jaker6 everybody can have their own differences. If you train a lot (sounds like you do), your issue can be from being really tight and bound up with muscles that don't know how to relax properly to allow full range of motion. For the average desk jockey, that can be an issue, but muscle atrophy from sitting all day also becomes a much more prominent issue. It really comes down to the individual. That's why the FAI Fix is such a big program with a test/re-test approach. We can't know everyone's unique specific issues - BUT we can give you principles to make decisions with (based on the many individuals we have worked with and continue to work with in a training environment)! :-)

    +Upright Health I had a surgical consult where the surgeon said fai had been a bad diagnosis by my physician. By the time I had the consult, I'd been doing a ton of stretching foam rolling and getting deep into the groin/adductors with a massage ball and had improved immensely. I was using a lot of the tips from your videos and now I'm fully healed, lifting, and running again. My ankle and hip mobility improved a lot during the injury. I was definitely guilty of not stretching enough before. I can now squat with a shoulder width stance a$$ to grass without issue. Before, my ankle immobility wouldn't allow it and I'd be limited to a wider stance with my toes facing outward. So while the initial FAI diagnosis wasn't correct, your vids still helped with my recovery and ultimately improved my performance. Thank you, sir.

    First, why don't you have a "Pain sucks, Life shouldn't" t-shirt! If you do, I would love to buy one! Didn't see it in your "store". I love your style and have a great way of explaining these topics, in a non-pretentious way. I am a little confused on the concept of stretching your lateral ham. If we're attempting to reposition the femoral head laterally/posteriorly, wouldn't we want to activate/strengthen the lateral ham and other associated muscles, and stretch the opposing muscles?

    John Juadines You'll be happy to know that there is now a "Pain Sucks. Life shouldn't." t-shirt soon to be available with the legendary (and mysterious!) squatting bear on it. Head over to uprighthealth.com/clothing/ and you should see it soon!
