Good for you, Joy, for not letting your soloist technique/ability slide, because, in my view that's where you belong, rather than in the corps. Whether that means extra work on your own in a studio or working with a coach is, of course, your choice of what is best for you. Remember, your goals and work towards them come first, whether that means a vlog only once in a while, or no vlogs or podcasts -- perhaps, just instagram. In the end, only you, not vlog watchers, will have anything to do with your accomplishing your goals.

Even though a lot of us might have followed you for a while I reckon you could do a multi episode arc on the podcast covering your story so far. Start of with how you got to the Bolshoi school, you can probably do at least two episodes on your time in the school. You might also be able to share things now that you couldn't at the time.

Topic: What "soloist work" entails. E.g. is it a planned routine? variation? Just cleaning up stuff that was shaky in class? How long are you typically working at night? You're amazing BTW

Hi Joy, In one video (or maybe it was podcast) you mentioned that there are some difference between US and Russian companies in their management culture and working practices. I would be interested in hearing more about that. For example-- you mentioned fixed salary [I think that was Russia?] vs sometimes taking unpaid leave [US?]. Also schedules, what kind of support you get (mental health and wellbeing, PT, mentoring, facilities) in each country. Is the hierarchy the same, too? Obviously without "dissing" one company or the other. :- )

Hey, I'm a new subscriber😊 I took ballet for most of my young life and I miss it so much. Have you ever thought of making a video breaking down and teaching basic ballet steps? Like a refresher lesson?

For those of us who are not dancers, and do not have a good understanding of how professional companies work...can you explain maybe why you are not a principal? You are so amazing and I just do not get it! Is it because your are new to the company? Russian-trained? Is it politics? I would love to know!!

Question for the podcast: how do you keep your body from over exhausting it’s self with your hectic schedule ? I dance as well and when I have back to back practice or shows my body finds it very hard to perform at tip top shape the next day / days.

whether you are a dancer or non-dancer in san francisco or the surrounding sf bay area the average cost of an 800 sq feet one bedroom apartment is on average $3500 per month not including utilities. Boston and san francisco are about the same. $3500 X 12 months is $42,000 per year. Medium salary for SF ballet dancers is $30,604 ranging to $58,723 highest. No choice but to find multiple roommates. Back in the 1980s comparable rents on average ranged between $500 to $650 per month which was my rental levels now I am 77 years old. I did not have to find roommates. My salary as a sf unionized public worker my salary was $33,000 per year. The yearly salaries have not grown very much as statistics show in fact horrible. I opted out of becoming a professional dancer in the 1960s.as the salaries were essentially terrible. InsteadI opted for a day traditional job and danced and taught ballet in my spare time and never regretted y decision. Never got injured and today I am physically intact. I wish you much enjoyment in this new adventure in life. You are truly a Prima Ballerina!!!!!!

Oh Joy!... You have got to talk about how Pro Ballerinas make a living.....Because, in truth.. It certainly ain't from dancing......(Done their taxes!)....danced in front of 500k people in a calendar year and made less than someone delivering Pizza....Shouldn't it be talked about....

You know what else.... For a short time I took a gig dancing in a night club, not a strip club, we were just hired dancers. No rehearsals and paid cash. That was the most I ever made dancing and most of us don't get paid for rehearsal time! It's crazy

@@StarDreamMemories You know what is crazy??.... This one girl, who graduated the Julliard school of dance, and the Paul Taylor dance company and others.... started dancing at a strip club (as a dare)... Loved it... And, said she made more money (over 185k for a year)... Had more creative control of choreography and presentation at a strip club than as a pro ballerina.. This was in the 90's, when dancing at a strip club was extremely taboo for a classically trained ballerina.....But, she did it... And, says she never regretted it.... Dancing for modern companies even today a dancer can take home less than 20k-30k for a season in most cases....And, she pulled 185k....Owned her own troope.... Today she has a Pilates/Yoga studio in Seattle ... The Economics of ballet today is a real issue
