Last Night in Soho Style Analysis: The Dangers of Nostalgic Imagery

In this video, I will be breaking down the style evolutions and interactions of Eloise and Sandy of the stylish psychological horror film 'Last Night in Soho.' Eloise is a timid fashion student who dreams of making it as a designer who inexplicably transports to the 1960s, where she mirrors an aspiring singer on her journey. I’ll be covering the historical influences that breathe life into the nostalgic stylized visuals and the psychological aspects of not only the characters’ fashion, but also the interactions between the two creatives.
Between Ellie's darkly felt anemoia and Sandy's decline in pursuit of their ambitions, their wardrobe depicts not only the swinging sixties and modern life, but also the idealized dream in contrast to the dismal, gritty reality both encounter in their own recollection. With this, we can understand the symbolic depiction of psychological crisis and the creative mind, see how fashion serves each woman while binding them together, and allow for Ellie to break the cycle of shared agony they are confined to so that both women are freed with tenderness and solicitude- resulting in clothing that carries on both their spirits into the future.

Hi! Not sure if there was a disclaimer or something that I missed, but based off the comments, I am understanding that you have been mocked for your voice? If I'm being honest, that was one of the things that made your videos so unique and sparkly. I don't know why people just think they have a right to tell you what to do or what your doing wrong or right, but you should stick to the authentic and creative you. Whether that is keeping the voice or using this voice. Love your videos, and I hope you don't let the haters influence your creativity. Art is art and remember, this is YOUR channel, not our channel.

i was so excited for this one, while i was watching the movie i wondered what semiotic symbols i was sleeping on and what would you say about the clothing. i loved the movie aesthetically, it was quite pleasing, the plot was so interesting until the twist, i got so confused -not in a surprised way, but in a 'why in hell did they choose going through this path' kinda of way- when the narrative looked like it was going to make sandy the absolute villain since they're being so delicate in showing how she was a victim of a failed system, i know that the movie is about eloise process of maturating and finding herself as an artist and it was an way of showing her how all human beings are complex and multifaceted rather than good or bad, but that scene when the abusors spirits asked her for help and freedom was so unpalatable, ugh, i was glad they didn't stick to it. it's a great movie though, the visuals are mesmerising, tks for this video, amazing as always.

this film is so colorful and it made me adore the 50s-60s decade even more. there is just something overwhelmingly romantic in that time period that attracts me. it could be because of the fact that it took a lot of inspiration from the preceding century and mass production was just at its beginning stages. it feels almost like a guilty pleasure in a way. even so this film reminds me a lot of perfect blue and paprika but it's more forgiving aha. loved ur analysis especially about the clothes. i feel like if a lot of people begin to watch this film there would be a resurgence in 60s fashion in the trends.

I haven't heard of this movie, but watching this makes me want to. I'm always intrigued by the psychological aspect of clothing and color. You did so great on this! Side note: it was comments from those who didn't like your voice that made you consider changing the narration, so what about reconsidering going back to your voice because there are more of us who enjoy your voice than those who didnt? Your voice is part of the package on your channel. It was the cherry on top. Honestly, if I could switch my voice for yours, I would. :)

If I ever complained about your voice, I'm SO sorry for that. The BBC documentary voice is clearer to hear, but I think that recording with a stronger mic that the sound louder would already be enough, I think. Please don't stop using your voice PS- The video is amazing. Thank you ♥! Will you make on Birds of Paradise (2021)?
