Last Minute Antique Shopping for Portland Vintage Market!
We're traveling cross country, and we're stuffing every corner of the van with the deals we find on the way to our big show next weekend in Portland! Fortunately, we hit Nampa, Idaho early enough to find fun and treasure at a block full of antique and vintage malls and shops! What bargains can we find to take to delight our customers?
The cornerstone of this antique vintage complex is Village Antique Mall, long-established but looking great under new management! I haven't seen this place in 20 years, but its two floors seem replete with cool stuff, in part because so many people are moving here and bringing their heirlooms with them. We head downstairs first, where we suspect bargain priced merchandise may lurk...and we break the ice right away with a larger painted Russian fairy tale box for only $10!
Quality is good here, as we find everything from elaborately carved chess sets and inlaid chairs to good pieces of antique Goofus and Carnival glass. Collections of Red Wing crocks, English and Capodimonte applied floral displays, Pyrex at fair prices and a crazy table with a very specific use make this a lot more than a bargain basement! We go upstairs to score deals on designer sunglasses, studio pottery and Alaskana, shop some vintage hats (uh-oh!) and pretty gold dresser items, and find a lot of fun and cool collections for sale that should make this mall a stop for serious collectors passing through the Boise area.
The big surprise is how the rest of the building is transforming into little antique shops as well! We window shop two that are weekend-only affairs, but score some great buys in Utter Clutter, whose proprietor offers us deals we can't refuse on Christmas ornaments, ribbon art, barware, canisters, a fun Murano bowl...the list keeps growing!
We leave with the van packed solid, and a great feeling about what we have to bring to @rosecityvintagemarket4294 this weekend! I have a feeling I won't own this stuff for very long.

I love your use of the word "skosh." My dad used that a lot and very few people know what that is! I love it.
The first time ive ever seen George drop something 😮😅❤

I love looking at and seeing all the different Fenton designs. That one piece with the peacocks and grapes was truly beautiful. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day.

The rook is a structure - the saddle is a knight. Gorgeous set.
Wow, I love the jonquils, the sunflower dishes, beautiful things in that store

You’re an absolute gem, as are your videos which always educate us as to the items to keep an eye out for. Thank you for all your efforts. Cheering you on from Mexico City.
Good evening, George. There was a porcelain tankard, with grapes on it, at the start, that caught my eye. I have a wash basin set almost like the one with the bluebirds. I think mine is from England. I think mine has seabirds on it. The blue vase, in the silver stand, was fantastic. I could see myself owning that 🙂 I wish I still had all the chess sets I did, before moving here. I sold most all of them, though. I'd love to have a collection of old duck decoys, but they'd be like my beverage sets...take a lot of real estate to display them. I'd like to see that Victorian Burmese piece away from that black light. That intaglio Goofus piece looked like either Northwood or Dugan. I really liked the celluloid dresser box. I'd like to have that Black Forest pipe. That was a beauty. That fancy hall tree was fantastic! Love Waterford _Lismore_ pattern. Great places to shop! Thanks for the take-along!

Neat about the bluebird set, the English did make some nice pieces of that pattern too! I really liked the blue vase in the silver stand, could own that if I had the right house for it. I din't realize you used to collect chess sets! I like decoys too somehow, even though I'm not a game hunter I like the designs. The intaglio Goofus was a neat piece and I wondered who made it! Really glad you enjoyed this place, I felt like they had variety of true antiques and vintage

@@TheAntiqueNomad I don't even remember how many chess sets I had. I still have, maybe, two or three. The more valuable ones I sold, though. The birds on the wash basin set I have look something like frigate birds...maybe(?) They could even be some kind of gull. I'm not really sure what kind of birds they are. It's a pretty set, though.
Love your videos, George! Educational and fun!
so happy to see you coming west again ;-) wish I could be there, miss the Portland shows and all the great people both vendors and buyers. Have fun and make some money

Gorgeous hat on a handsome fellow
loving the great dane, but all your info is precious, thanks
Sorry that my sister and I cannot make it to Portland this year. Last year was a wonderful show, and I found so many beautiful things for myself and Johnny. Have a great show, and hopefully you will be able to share a video with us! 😊
I've been there and found some great things!!
Great video
George, I really appreciate you traveling to all these different places showing us all these treasures and educating us. I have learned a lot by watching you and I look forward to your videos. I really like the antiques, the vintage brings back fond memories. I forgot what demure meant, I had to go look it up 😃. Tfs
The next time I go to Boise to see family I would love to check this antique store out. Thank you for stopping and putting them out there.😊
I collect Portmeirion, but I only buy pieces made in England. That might be something to consider when buying for resale.

Man, the places you get to go. Love it.
Thanks for sharing all your knowledge!
It's wonderful George!!
I love your videos, George ❤
1:39 The bottle with the silver over it looks like a bottle of Pinch Scotch.
At 25:38 the Hollywood Regency set…might that tube be a hairspray cover? My mother in law had an orange cylinder with a gold handle on top that was used to house hairspray bottles on her dresser from the ‘60’s.
❤❤❤
The Haeger Natural Stone piece is used to cook bacon in the oven up side down like you showed.

George will you be doing appraisals in Portland?

I almost thought the ormolu vanity tall matson holder was used to hold women's hairspray I vaguely remember my grandmother using it to hold her hairspray in her bathroom
I like the Santa Anita plate. A huge night blooming Cerus growing on a lava stone wall on the Punahou Campus of the University of Hawai'i was a notable destination for tourists in the 1920s through the 1940s. It's depicted on many postcards and tourist photos. Not sure if it's still around.
ALSO HAVE A BREYER HORSE ORNAMENT
5:24. Very interesting to see "concave" on that water ski. Took a few decades before skateboards started having concave. Strange to research that the bottom of the skies were concave (from what I can see). Wouldn't that make them convex? lol. I guess I'd have to do some more research to know exactly. 28:57 The lid to that cookie jar reminds me of Gilner pixies on a leaf.
Hello, I saw a couple of Fenton slippers, I have about a dozen of them in different colors that I inherited from my Mom. Are they worth anything? Can you direct me to where I can research them for resale? Thanks! Love your channel!
Hi swanney George i wanna go to idaho
Was the Royal Beyruth Tomato pieces always bottom marked? I have a small lidded bowl and salt and pepper shaker set with no mark. The pieces are very small.
at 23:00 George is standing in front of a shelf with some very dark carnival glass over his right shoulder. What is this color called (it's almost chocolate brown)? Is it desireable? I like it!

so excited to be there this weekend!
In all seriousness, I have a crap ton of marigold original depression glass that my Nana actually collected at movies and gas stations, etc. but no one wants to buy it. I also have some from my hoarding grandmother side that no one will buy. What do I do with it I can’t price it low enough to get people to even take it. It’s kind of like clear glassgave away an entire table offered it for free for anyone who would just take it and no one would even take it for free and this is pretty darn close to that. What do I do with it? Hold onto it forever
Hey
I HAVE THE FITZ AND FLOYD SLEEPING CATS
I hate when they change auctioneers it pisses me off and
